Hi-

I am to report to FCI Manchester June 17th for a 10 month sentence. My house arrest PO Said it's a medium security prison although all it says on the letter from the BOP/Marshal's office is to report to FCI Manchester, I do know there is a camp and a minimum so I do not know how my po got that it was medium. Anyways I would like to know the differences in medium from a low or camp. I know about fences and what-not but I want to know things such as privleges and such. ie: lots of lock-down, smoking? and so on.. thanks!

The biggest difference is controlled movement. In most mediums, you are able to "move" every hour or so, but only when they call for a move. At Low's, they usually have open movement, where you can go to Recreation, the library (etc) whenever you want during most of the day.

There are many more lock downs at a Medium than you will see at a Low. Lock downs at most Low's are rare unless there is some serious gang stuff going down, or someone is killed, etc. When I was at the Medium in Beaumont, we were locked down a few times a year. (I'm talking about being locked down for 2 or more days straight.. into weeks)

The general attitude is much more reserved at a Medium where as you will see more playful stuff going on at a Low.

I can't find my book right now but an F.C.I. can be considered either a low or medium. My address for instance was titled "F.C.I. Beaumont - Medium". I know the guys at the Low used the same title but "Low" instead of "Medium".

A camp is a "FPC".
A United States Pen is "USP".
Federal Medical Center is "FMC"
Federal Detention Center is "FDC"
Metropolitan Detention Center is "MDC" (Same as FDC though)

I know that was getting a little off tipic but I thought I would spit it out.
