I would never send cash in the mail, he may never get it, and you have no proof. Send a check or Money order, that is best. Find out if he is allowed to get money too, being that he is in Rikers.

thanx alot...well he contacted me and asked me to send cash because it takes 1 day to post in his account but a check or money order takes 5-7 days is this correct?

If you want to, you can take that risk, but it can get lost. Maybe you can send a MO and it is quicker... ? Good Luck

Never send cash...not everyone is honest -- and he would much rather get the money in 5 - 7 days than not at all :)

I think you can send money via Western Union...I dont know if this will make it post any faster to his account, but I would NOT send cash!

Or if you're in another borough, money will be accepted at any City DOC. I live in Mnahattan and when my man was at Rikers, it was always easier for me to go to the NYC jail downtown and put money in his account that way. It's cash and posts quickly, plus there was hardly ever a line there and much quicker than going to Rikers where you have to get on a bus across and be searched before you even get to the place to give in money. I was always in and out at the Manhattan spot.

NEVER send cash anywhere! my hubby asked me to do the same thing, despite what I knew, I did it anyway, and he NEVER got the money. The Money order is the best way to go. Personal checks do take longer to get into thier account.

Does anyone know if you are able to wire money to Auburn? e.g. western union, moneygram...If not by western union, are there any faster ways to get money to inmates besides mailing money orders or having to drive 5 !/2hrs to deliver it in person?

I do not think you can wire money, send a MO....

send it overnight--the post office delivers to PO boxes overnight. He will get it as soon as he would if you dropped it off. You can enclose it in a letter, they will take it out and credit his account.

Make it payable to him WITH his DIN next to his name!

just woindered if anyone ever did this-it has a special category for sending to correctional facilities and they advertise on PTO.-but do not know if they do it in NY.

If you are in NY and the person you are sending the money to is in NY, I think it's WORTHLESS to use Western Union!!!!! I can't remember how it worked in NY, but when my husband first went to prison, here in PA, my girlfriend used Western Union to send her man money and I mailed my husband a money order. They were both in the same facility. My husband received his money first!!!!! Western Union has a charge, so she basically wasted her money$$$$$!!!!!

I agree with PhillyG -- I mail my husband a money order, it's at the facility in 2 days, on the third day, he has the slip in his hand. Thirty seven cents -- can't beat it with a stick, and everybody's happy. I would never western union or overnight money to my husband. If he miss the store, he'll have another opportunity to go in two weeks.

Overnight is a waste of money, unless you don't mind wasting money. It's a waste because it takes extra days for our men to get it because the envelope has to go to the library maybe and then the inmate has to be summoned there so he can sign for it.

Yes, I just sent my friend some money for his b-day and he did get it in two days exactly.
