I was released from a military brig (Naval Consolidated Brig-Miramar in CA) in March. I was courts-martialed and served 9 months. I'm having trouble with filling out applications for jobs...can anyone help? I was told it would be considered a felony conviction...however it does not show up on background checks. What should I put when it asks on applications "have you ever been convicted of a felony?" I've been putting yes and explaining what it was for (I believe in honesty). Of course this has caused me not to get hired at most places. My most recent job, I was upfront with them as I always am...they did a background check...it came back clear (I did not know this at the time) and they hired me. When they were checking records (I think someone told them I had a felony and why was I working there, but no proof), they realized I had checked yes on the paperwork that I had a felony. They called me in and said they'd have to do another background check and that it could effect my employment. I was fired two days later (altho, not because of the background check....but because I had gone online...but I think that was a cover so they wouldn't have to pay a severance pay since they made the mistake of hiring me in the first place when I told them I had a felony). Anyways, I don't know what to put now. If I put yes, and they do a check, it'll come back clean...but I would feel bad about lying (altho, it would benefit me as I'd be more likely to get hired). What am I supposed to do?

Tell nobody!!! The military doesn't talk and your record will be concealed for the rest of your life.
It usually is not a felony if your sentence was under a year and you didn't get a DD.
Forget you were ever in the military and tell no-one. Trust me, it's for the best.
