Hello everyone
There are over 13,000 federal prisoners in our country and tens of thousands more provincial prisoners. I know I am not alone but some days I feel like I am.
This folder is for all of us who need some support, a place for us to express our concerns, feelings and yes, our fears. Supposedly we have one of the "best" systems in the world and delegates from other countries come here to observe and learn from us. I know from personal experience that we have our "issues." Lack of shared infromation from CSC about our loved ones, little or no medical and dental care, visitation problems, false/positive results from ion scanners, murders and riots.
Please feel free to post and let us all band together to help one another. I look forward to meeting you all.
Gillian

HI Gillian,

I found you!!! Yes, I agree, even though we are supposed to have one of the best systems, we do have our share of problems... Visits, phone system, false positive on both the visitors (ion test) and inmates, very little ways to fight decisions (especially those based on observation reports) etc... Actually, I do have one item that I think would be worth looking into... My husband told me that everyone in his institution had an increase on their security eveluation... Some of their files would have waranted status quo or even a decrease in security, but since last year, one question has been removed from the form the guards use to eveluate and the way the computer deals with the new questionnaire increased everyone`s security. Unfortunatelly, that resulted in some inmates being transfered to a higher security institution... He heard that there is a case going on out west about this... Have you heard anything???

Anyways, I`m rambling on... Glad to have found you here as well... :D

Take care and talk to you soon,

Marie-Claude:wave:

I finally got thru all the posts i have been behind on in the other forum. The old computer is cooperating tonight for a change so I thought I would follow your link here. This seems like a great forum as well!! All kinds of topics, organised in a great fashion. This page will keep me busy for a long time with everything to read and learn. Bonjour fellow Canauck!

I kind of met you last night in your failed attempt to join Chat.

Look down the Canadian forum list.

I posted a review somewhere of a book called "Justice Behind the Walls: Human Rights in Canadian Prisons" by a lawyer (with the unfortunate name of) Michael Jackson. The whole book is available online. You don't have to buy it. (It sells for $50 I think...)

I believe there's info in there about how to avoid Parole Hearing foulups.

Should I presume we're talking about Dorchester?

Love,
Menolly

HI All from Edmonton Alberta. I am a displaced Lakota woman whose Ojibway man just got transferred from Max to Medium. I guess they decided to let some go the other way. Anyway out here there is a 50 percent native inmate population. They bring us in from all over the country. I guess the prairies are just like one big reserve. It makes for a heck of a lot of problems not the least of which is housing enemies together... I won't go there anyway he is Ontario now and told me that there is a huge dreamcatcher at the exit to the wooded area around his institution. He is feeling culture shock because there are only 12 natives in the whole institution and he is lost. It is hard to explain but the best I can do is to explain that he is a bush man born and raised until he went in and not used to being in the minority...rez system, prairie prisons and all that. You guys are so right the system is touted as the best but there are cracks. I won't disparage them though, rather I meet challenges head on and it seems to help, for the most part anyway. Glad to see this page is up and running. Hi to all of you again, Shiningdrum

After months of searching online for anything at all relevant to Canadians and the penal system I am so thrilled to happen upon this site. Its hard as a person on the outside who is an information seeker to find any resources that will assist loved ones. There is one site but its never updated.
I have a loved one serving life-25 in Donnacona, Quebec. so I have some time on my hands.
I am preparing to go for my first open visit and am a bit apprehensive as to the rules and regulations. What should I know and expect. I have to travel over 9 hours to get there so I dont want to risk anything ruining my visit.
I have recently acquired a penpal in the US prison system and things there are much different. I welcome the opportunity to learn from you other members and am always online and willing to chat.

Welcome to PTO. Its an outstanding place to hang out for sure. Glad you found us.

HI Gillian! Wow nice new format. I finally got a second to write something. Adam is being moved to a Healing Centre just outside Montreal. He has been doing peer counselling in Fenbrook and he must have done something right because off he goes in about a month to minimum. I am not getting my hopes up though cause CSC is sending him 3 thousand miles from me to do minimum. He is away from his children and his parents are in Ontario. I am SO TICKED. The worst of it is that the training for release is minimal. He will have to somehow get a trade or something out here. On top of that once they give him UTAs he won't know a soul. Everyone who means something to him is either in Ontario or Alberta. His mom is moving out here with me next year. I am really worried about what they are doing to him. Anyone else have such craziness from CSC? Shiningdrum

I usually go with John Howards Society, since I don't drive.

Hi Gillian.

Shiningdrum here. Good to see the Canada thread is up and running. Adam still has awhile to go but after all these years well, we are pretty much into a routine. I might be moving to Ontario for a year or two to attend post-graduate school. Adam is trying to get a transfer closer to where I will be going. I don't know if they will allow it. Anyway I just wanted to say sorry I haven't been around but school makes it almost impossible. I have a bit of time this week so here I am. Glad to see so many responses. I am interested to know where each and everyone's loved one is.
Adam is in med. in Gravenhurst... others?

HI stevesboo!

I will be coming out that way for Christmas with Adam and the children. We are going in for a private family visit. Its the first one in 5 years and Adams mother and grandmother are going as well. We have been together since the age of 12. I am almost 40 and Adam has been inside for almost 24 years. He went in at age 16. Life with poss parole at 25 years. He is in medium now and really feeling the pinch because he wants so much to come home and be with us. The last bit of time is almost as difficult as the first. At least now he is clean and sober and sticking to the Red Road. He is in Gravenhurst. It looks like in a year or so he may go to minimum. If I go to Ontario I will either be in Ottawa or Waterloo. I am working on a degree and those are the universities with the best masters programs for my field.

I have relocated many times but once the children hit school age we decided to stay in one place because it isn't healthy hauling them all over the country without any idea when the next move will be. Back and forth from Med to Max for 15 years was tough. The last 9 years have been much better. He is chief of the brotherhood in his institution and teaching the men the spirit songs and way of the drum. The elder there seems less knowledgable than she needs to be and that has caused some conflict.

Where in Ontario are you? If I go there perhaps we can connect. At the very least we will know someone in the same province going through the same thing. Adam may be in another 4 to 5 years. I am not giving up. We have been through too much for that.

Great to hear from you. DO keep in touch and please PM me and I will get an e-mail letting me know you posted to me. May Wakan Tanka bless you and yours. Lina Shiningdrum

HI Jim.

Hang in there. You show great courage and wisdom. I will tell Adam about you because we seldom here about those who made it out and stayed out. Yes after so long inside it is hard on the outside. 7 years is testimony to your strength and determination. Really, hang in there. Life doesn't have to mean a sentence. It can over time become a joy. I have been an advocate for inmates and excons now for over 20 years. The system is very flawed. If you need to talk to someone over xmas pm me and I will be happy to respond. My husband is a wonderful man and unfortunately a lifer. He has been in since 16 and we have been together since I was 12.

He has been in and around just about every max and medium in the country including some of the ones you likely have been in. He's in his 24th year of his life sentence now and won't likely see the outside for another 3 to 4 years. We know it won't be easy. I am dedicated to helping him make it out and stay out. Our two children will help me do that.

I don't have to tell you the changes a long termer goes through inside. He's doing well now though. Clean and sober and acting as a advocate for others, chief of the brotherhood in his institution and dedicated to staying on the Red Road. Your family sounds like mine. I will burn sage for you and your brothers tonight and ask Wakan Tanka to keep you strong. May he bless you and yours. Lina Shiningdrum

HI Jill. Yes it is nice. but don't let that fool you. Despite the look of the place, they are not very supportive to the men. I have seen better treatment in of all places Edmonton Max and its a hell hole. Adam is staying in Gravenhurst until they send him to min. I don't know if he is going to a healing centre though I think he should. He was supposed to go to Montreal and because he is a lifer and it is out of province they turned him down. So we are in wait and see mode. I sent you another message earlier. Drop me PM and I will keep in touch. Lina Shiningdrum

Hello skyeblue - welcome here...! We all know what your feeling, though our situations may differ to various degrees ~ you have found a good place at PTO. Your son is lucky to have you out here for him, though I am sorry to hear you will miss seeing him. The indirect punishment upon an inmate's family often seems very unfair to me - regardless of who the prisoners may be, the familys that are left out here all need and deserve support... hope to see you on the board... there is a tonne of great information here - take care!

Hi,
I'm In Windsor Ontario and my husband is an inmate in Michigan and is also a U.S. Citizen, unlike me; I'm a Canadian. I moved from Ottawa to Windsor last year to be closer to him. He is up on new charges now and though I thought his time was up recently, it seems that was an illusion. He is about to be tried on new charges and it's not looking good at all time-wize. It just goes on and on. I've been kicking around PTO for a few years off and on now and I guess I will be kicking around for another decade or so the way things are looking. But I am a Canadian and living proudly as one. Glad to meet you all.

Hi every body I am from Montréal and happy to hear from fellow canadians. I am curious to now if anybody met there loved one via the internet. Let me explain, I am a university ( Université du Québec à Montréal ) student studying SCRIPTWRITING FOR FILM and this semester we have a documentary scriptwriting film class. This documentary will only be done on paper it will never be put in to film. I am just looking for women who are willing to share their story in a very confidential way. I my self am very perticular when it comes to my private life and in no way would I want to cause any arm to any of my fellow members. I am not a journalist nor do I have the intention to become one. I just want to share in your story.

P.S. Thank's for your help Danielle!!!

Thank God l don't have a criminal record here but it will take a lifetime to forget or even deal with the things that l went through and the things that l saw.lf this would have happened in Canada,l would have been let go so l will be the first to say that our system is much better then the states.:(

Welcome to PTO

I will agree with you 100% we have nothing to complain about compared to the states and some other countries. I thank god everyday that my man is on this side of border or we would be doing a lot longer and maybe even life without parole. Atleast our life sentece is only 25 years compared to there LIFE!

Hi Jill
I am glad I found this place.
Do you know if there are any chat groups from Canada for prisoners wives etc?
I have been visiting my husband for 20 years solid. He has been at Bath for 9 of those years, KP for the first 11. We raised our children who were 2 and 4 years old at the time in the prison system (visits, trailers, socials and family days etc). They are now adults and we have a granddaughter. The time just seems to fly now.
I have so much information and experience that I could share on here.

Wow, I has no idea such a place existed! I'm so incredibly grateful that it does. I am comforted knowing that I'm not alone with this agony and despair because half of me is locked away being "corrected" for the next 27 months....I'm used to this relationship with expensive collect calls and the twelve page letters. Every man that I have ever loved in my life has eventually gone to jail. Baby's father is currently in Drumheller. My fiancee is in Matsqui...we were actually in the same facility (Surrey Pre-trial) for a week or so back in April!! Ya, we were meant for each other. I'm very excited and a bit relieved to know that I've got an outlet to talk about, and to listen to, all of the feelings and experiences that come with this life of being caught up in the justice system. On the inside and the outside...

My name is Michelle and my fiancee, James, is in Matsqui for the time being. I live on Vancouver Island. Does anyone know if there is loop=hole or an exception that would allow for him to be transferred to William Head Institute so that he could be closer to me? I am the only family that he has in this province and it is hell trying to make it out there to visit him and I won't even start on the collect calls!!! :(

I felt really alone also when my guy went in, but then I found this place and realised that I wasn't alone because there were sooo many other people out there who have shared my experiances and challenges, who actually "understand", and who have provided me with advice and insight into how to handle problems and issues I might encounter during this time :)

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

I'm also from Vancouver, BC but my hubby is in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I've posted a couple times before on this board. My guy has been in jail for 2 1/2 years and is getting out in 22 days. I'm flying east when he gets out to live there with him.... I'm super excited and nervous at the same time!!!!! ::thumbsup:
After reading through some of the posts, I feel better to know there's others like me!
I hope to get to know some of you better.

I am so glad that i found this site. My man is in Milhaven and I spend alot of time wondering if there is anyone out there that feels the same way I do about my life at this time. After finding PTO i now know that i'm not alone at all. He's been in and out for the past three years. Does anyone else find it hard to socialize? I do because people u meet start to ask questions and i'm never sure what or how much to tell. We both thought it would be better for me to move away from our hometown because of bad influences but that meant leaving my friends. I like to be around other people and even have begun to look for work, I just have a hard time knowing what to say when people ask about my man (where is he tonight, what does he do). He says to tell people who ask the truth, but i'm in a small town here and not to many people understand, as soon as I mention prison the automatically think he's a bad guy. I would like to hear how others handle this situation?

Welcome to PTO Yoosgirl!!!! Very glad you found us and you most certainly are not alone !!
Well my husband is from and is in Michigan and the first time he was in I did lie and say because of immigration problems I can only visit him and he cant come here. The second time I told a few people and didnt exactly get a good response though some seemed ok though as time went on I realized they were judgemental. Now I live in a completely different city and I dont really care to discuss it with people at all. I dont lie about it but I make it clear that Im not comfortable talking about it. It took me some time to realize its not really anyone elses business though people like to make things like that their business.
When I have told people, they seem to think they are the experts on advice and are shocked when they realize that I have no intentions of leaving him because he is in prison. People can be very judgemental until they walk in our shoes. You will find that here on PTO we have no reason to judge because most of us are all wearing the same shoes !!!
Again welcome and please make yourself at home, you have an extended family here now. :)

I am probably not going to be a very popular member here because I am a C.O here in Canada.

I came across the forums yesterday by accident and after reading some posts decided to join.

I guess my reason for joining is I know the system from the inside and know that there are a lot of misconceptions.... half truths and lies about life on the inside and I am curious to how others (family members and friends.. loved ones) see the system.

Believe it or not as a C.O I am doing time as well as the people I look after. I know its harder on their side of the bars but its no walk in the park for those of us who walk the other side of the bars. No sympathy needed though because I chose this as a career.

Welcome! I am thrilled that we have a CO from Canada as many of the CO's that are members here are from the US and thus don'y have information on the Canadian Prison System.

As for how I view "the system", though it is not perfect I think Canada has a pretty good/effective system overall, especially when compared to a lot fo other places.

Again, Welcome Canadian CO!

and I was wondering if it's ok to stay in touch with my C.O.? I don't know if it's ok.. or am I crazy?

Because when I was inside, I looked up to one female C.O as my mother.. sounds crazy I know... this happened since my mom wasn't around cuz she stopped visiting me in prison... cuz the 1st time my mother came she cried and stopped visiting but kept contact on the phone... now that im out I love my mother like that damn fine sexy C.O...hahah..yeah it sounds messed up.. anyways much respect and love to all female C.O.s in Montreal, Qc and all of QUEBEC... you know who you are... peace ... one

Welcome to PTO Flip The Myk !! Glad you found us.
Well I dont know about the C.O., I guess she would have to have a say in it also.
Im in my 40's and Im still in contact with very first probation officer from when I was a juvenille. She was probably the only person in my youth that taught me some very good life skills and I thought of her like a big sister and still kind of do. She even took me skiing once. She went out of her way to get me in a better envirorment.
Anyways, glad you are free, just make sure the C.O. in question also feels the same way or you may end up being a guest in that concrete hotel again !!!
Good luck, keep us posted !!!

Hi
I am new to this forum,I just signed on. It looks like it is a really great place. My son has just entered Millhaven as of 2 days ago. His time will be probably 18 months, but I am sure it will seem like 18 years. He is 30ish and this is his first crime. He was allowed a phone call and he called me. I think the whole mess is really sinking in. Reality as we know can really kick. I am looking forward to coming to this site, as I want to know as much as I can. I would also like to go and visit him soon when it is allowed.
Thank you and keep up the good work with this site. We all have a common ground here.

I am new to this site. My son has just entered Millhaven over the last 2days.
I am hoping to go and visit him when it will be allowed. I saw an article on the John Howard Site that mentions a bus that will take you to the prison, but I haven't researched it further. Now I will. I don't have a car so it will be a problem for me to get there and will for alternatives. I live about 20 min. south of you.

I have recently joined the forum. My son has just entered The Millhaven Assessment Unit a week ago yesterday, for his first crime ever. Hello!

I'm Kelly (as you can probably tell from my username!) and I'm from Ontario, Canada. I joined sometime last week, and have put off introducing myself because I feel a bit lame in being here as I don't actually know anybody in the Canadian prison system. Long story (hopefully!) short, I was searching for a forum for Canadians who oppose the Death Penalty and PrisonTalk.com came up. I joined in the hopes that I'd come across some like-minded Canadians to chat with about it.

Anyway, that's my story, and I better stop typing now or I'll end up writing a novella.

Hey, well a friend of mine just told me about this today, and I have to say, I feel much better knowing that there is support out there. I live in Alberta and my man is in jail in ontario. It's hard, well it sucks. I've been dealing with all of this on my own, I've been transferd to Edmonton with my job, out here I'm alone with my two babies (4 & 5), I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that I can no longer go to the jail twice a week to viste and I can only afford to go every couple of months now. I do have a question, my man is going up for his second set of charges, he's just been sentenced with 18 months, now with this next sentence they say that he will be going to be going to Stoney Mountain (if he wins he will finish his time in penetang), he is as they would say a "violent" offender, how wouls we go about getting him transferd to Edmonton Max or Drumheller. I was told that because he's a violent offender he'd be going to a maximum security jail, so I'm assuming it would be Ed Max. Will the system allow it or do that?

butterfly16
10-06-2006, 10:03 PM
Hi Linda,

I am doing good and so is my son. We are hanging in writing, getting calls and of course the socials they have every 3 months are so amazing. To be able to spend the entire day with our loved ones like that is truly a blessing. The food that the inmates cook is really good and they all make such a special effort to make sure the guests have a good time, especially at Christmas when the kids get gifts from Santa.

It truly is appreciated. How are you making out and how is your son doing? Do you have the socials in Kent?

lindafpf
10-07-2006, 11:39 PM
Yes, they have socials in Kent. I don't get to go very often because we are about 18 hours away. The last time I was at a social was at Christmas. It was really nice to be able to spend so much time with him The only bad part of it was the present. The inmates were allowed to give their children gifts, but the children were not allowed to take them out of the store packaging or they couldn't take them home. I never really understood the rationale behind that and some of the children were very upset, especially the young ones. Imagine, they had to sit and look at their gifts on the table, but they couldn't play with them I thought it was really cruel.

How far are you away from your son? Do you get to visit very often? How long is he in for? Do you have a good support group at home? Do you have any other children at home?

butterfly16
10-08-2006, 05:08 AM
Hi Linda,

I have been to every social since he has been there, I really enjoy going I have been to 4 so far.

That is ridiculous about the childrens Christmas gifts. I think that the inmates should complain to the inmate committee about that... at our socials the kids get to open the gifts, play with them and take then home. The inmates have to pay for them so what's the point of not keeping them?

I am 2 1/2 hours away from my son and see him quite a bit. He is out next July so as he puts it 3 more socials. I have a great support group and have another son at home.

How about you do you have other children?

I have a son in Edmonton, we are waiting for him to arrive this morning for the weekend. I also have a daughter in Abbotsford B.C. We are in
Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek is about 18 hours from the jail, 19 hours from my daughter and 7 hours from Edmonton.
I have a sister and some friends in Saskatchewan who are a great support, and my husband Dave is always there for me. I also have some friends here that help keep my spirits up. It really does make a difference.
I am so glad to hear your son will be out soon.
My son got Life 25, and he has been in for 6 years, so he has a long time left to go. We are very busy trying to get a new trial. He was wrongfully convicted as a result of a Mr. Big Sting. That undercover operation should be outlawed, and we are working hard to get it outlawed. It is an outrageous sting, in that they use death threats, and huge financial incentives, anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 dollars to get a confession. For the RCMP to use death threats to get a confession is just so wrong.
At the present time AIDWYC is reviewing my sons case, and I am starting a support group for the relatives of others wrongfully convicted by Mr. Big. So far, I am in regular touch with one family, and my son and hers write to each other to keep their spirits up. We have about ten on our list that we are trying to contact because we think they are wrongfully convicted as well.
Mrs. Milgaard has been a great help to me. She knows what we are up against, and I think we are so lucky to have her experiences to draw on. She is a wonderful woman, and my talks with her are very uplifting.
Do you have any plans for when you son gets out? Is he going to stay with you, or is he married? If so, does he have any children?

I've also done time (34 days) in a provincial jail in Whitby Ontario (Whitby Bucket). I'm planning on sticking around the forums and will offer any help I can to those who need it.

I would like to thank those that have helped me out before my sentence was handed down on the ins and outs of the Fed and Prov institiutions that I would of likely served my time in.

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through and I wouldn't wish it on any parent. :( I've been writing to prison penpals for almost 4 years now, and never thought I would be doing it with my child. :( :( He seems to be coping though, and he smiles and laughs when I visit, so it makes it a little easier saying good-bye to him.
If anyone knows if there is anything besides letters and cards that I can send him please let me know.

Am I ever glad I stumbled into this site!! The shock of our situation has started to wear off and I was in a very angry phase this morning. Then I spent the afternoon reading a lot of the stories on here and now I just feel like a whiny child!
My story--last Saturday morning our van was broken into and the police were called in by a neighbour who found my bf's work paperwork in their yard. When they ran my bf's name through the system they found a bench warrant for him from 98 for driving under suspension. They took him in, he saw a judge by video, he was given a court date for September and he was released...all within a couple of hours. Tuesday around supper time a police officer showed up at the door and said he had to take him back in. No worries, they'd get it all sorted out and he'd be back out again that night. My bf called Wednesday morning to tell me he was going to be in Elgin-Middlesex for 7 months. I'm still not sure how that came about. The abruptness of it all is what has thrown me for a loop. Plus the fact that while in my head I know he was no angel when he was younger, the man I know in my heart is very trustworthy and honest.
To top all of this off, a couple of days before all of this happened, I quit my job after 9 years of dealing with my boss's mood swings knowing that we were quite comfortable living off his income alone while I decided what my next chapter was going to be career-wise.
Now, I know he's only away for 7 months and I live in London too so being able to see him is not an issue. However, it feels as if my whole life (and my childrens') has been turned upside down. I honestly can't imagine what those of you who are looking at years away and have transportation issues to deal with do to get through the time.
Thanks for letting me ramble :-)...I look forward to reading through more posts and getting some insight.

My bf called Wednesday morning to tell me he was going to be in Elgin-Middlesex for 7 months.

A bit of a correction to this as all the confusion is getting itself worked out. His sentence is actually for 10 months+ with early release in 7months+.

Hey Jacqueline! Your story spoke tons to me... my finace and father of my daughter is in prison for his illegal behaviour while trying to support a coccaine addiction. We met 3 years ago in AADAC, i was stuggling with an alcohol addiction. Anyways we started dating adn i soon became a coccaine addict along with him just to keep him close to me, till i fell pregnant and cleaned up completely. He continued to use drugs my whole pregnacy which did some major damage on our relationship and has continued to fall in and out of addcition while he has been in prision. He will most likely be coming out in January on his parole day and my biggest fear is him returning back to the drugs. Please let me know if u need someone to talk to about your struggles and his and how his relapse is effecting u and making u feel!

No, so far we've managed to keep him here in London at EMDC. He's running a crew in the kitchen right now and the woman he works for put in a request to not have him transferred. We're hopefully getting parole early December so I don't see them moving him at this stage in the game. Still no phone calls but at least it's only a 5-10 minute drive to go see him.

hi, im new to the site, a little disappointed that there isnt as much canadian communication going on here. im sure there are very many of us out there in canada as well, so please dont be shy. everything u share will help the rest of us out more than u know!! i stumbled across this site initially about a month ago, never came back until today.. which was quite a rough one, im sure u kno of these days as we all experience them more often than we'd like to. so here i am all registered and ready to share.

my boyfriend is in central east correctional center in lindsay, ontario, on remand, trial date still unknown. he has done a month and a half now, and i miss him more than words could ever describe. i have read posts where women have been by their men's side for years and years on end and still counting, and i truly commend ur strength and will to continue to be strong. its women like u who keep the ones like myself going and keeping the faith.

the worst part for me is not knowing the release date, not knowing when to count down to, and not knowing if it would be all that i envision when that day comes. this is the first ive ever been involved with someone in jail, and given the fact that we didnt have enough time from when we met to the day he abruptly got locked up keeps me wondering if i am waiting in vain. i fell in love with him as we were initially struggling through this, and as time went by, i found myself deeper and deeper into the situation and now i plainly just dont want to leave his side. i will continue to be his strength and faith on the outside, trying to keep things as together as i possibly can. although the lifestyle ive started to lead is sadly inevitable – i am pretty much doing time out here while he’s doing his time in there. i work at home so i can only assume that it is a little easier to deal with this, as i pick up his collect calls quite a few times during the day and work through the evening and night (the bill aint pretty, i’ll tell u that much!).

everyday is the same. i wake up to his first phone call of the morning, around 10am, and talk to him throughout the day, 20 minutes at a time, between the hours they are allowed on range and not locked in their cells. we talk about anything and everything, he tells me the little jokes him and his friends on the inside run, the book he's currently reading and what its about, the dramas and of course fights that go on, his dreams at nights, as i tell him about my work and its progression, news about friends and family, how much i miss him constantly, and in every conversation there is inevitable consoling of each other as we conquer this "time". i try my best to be there and spend as much time "with" him as possible, as unfortunately i have been the only person that accepts his calls, the only person that goes to visit him, the only person that really gives a shit that hes doing time and that its not an easy thing to do. at times i give three way calls for other inmates, and as i listen to constant ringing and no answers on the other end, it just breaks my heart to see them go through it all alone. i could never turn my back on my boyfriend, or even not be there for his calls for that matter. his last call of the day ranges between 730pm and 830pm, in which i start my “day” thereafter. i visit him once a week, usually on fridays, visits are 20 minutes each time. i was informed by one of the worker inmates allowed out to serve meals that that they were on lock down all day today, not allowed out of their cells for some unknown reason, and will continue to be locked down for the next couple of days. today was a rough day.

everyday is the same. i dont make any plans besides work related ones. i dont want to go anywhere for leisure purposes knowing he will not be there with me. i dont want to plan anything for the future not knowing how things are going to be once he is out.

everyday is the same. i go through a number of ups and downs daily, and some days i just break down and cry for no reason, or for every reason. i dont care to talk or see very much of the people who do not know of my situation, or do know, but can never relate or even begin to understand.. and those that do, well, there’s barely even one or two and i just feel terrible constantly rambling on about what my boyfriend and i are going through. i know a lot of readers will say that i dont have it nearly half as bad as others, but then again, it is what it is, and everyday is the same.

here i hope to find a family who understands, who can listen to me vent as i do enjoy hearing others vent – it helps me cope with all of this better – and in just an hour of skimming through the site, i have a good feeling that i will.

thanks everyone :)
pyrochick.

Hi my name is Robin, my husband is currently serving a 58 month sentence at Fenbrook intitution in Gravenhurst, Ontario. He should be out on day parole in Feburary, all going well. I have never had to deal with prison or police or parole officers or correctional officers in my life, so I've had to learn really quickly about everything. I know how lost I felt when when all this first happend and if there is some info I can share I will!!!

Well I spent time in Joyceville from 1973 to 1976ish and Millhaven from 1976ish to 1981 and I saw alot and was involved in alot from protests to riots and prison is not a place to be.

The screws are mean and narrow minded and I got transfered to Millhaven for beating on one.

I am Canadian C.O. I am a C.O in the Ontario Provincial system. I have been a member since 2006 but haven't really been on in quite awhile.

I probably wont be a popular member with some of the members on here but I am willing to answer questions for anyone who has them

Why should we trust you to do so ????

Do you think for one minute that all people out here in the real world, would actually trust you?? I don't think so....... You're a CO........ It's a position of trust. And that trust has been negleted and or denied or quite franktly....., IGNORED..........

Our spouses regardless of whom they are, or what they have been charged with, ARE STILL HUMAN BEINGS, are are still entilted to that human equation.........

I await your answer !!

Welcome to the site, you do bring alot of experience and answers with you. I'm sure there are many family members who do need some help manuvering through the system, and your perspective is helpful.

Please don't assume, the "quiet" many who read this site are as apposed to your presence.

Im not one to apply a stereotype. (just as all inmates arn't useless, neither are all C.O's)
