By JAMES M. O'NEILL / The Dallas Morning News
The feds are swooping in.
When they soon start knocking on the doors of the Dallas County Jail, expect them to haul along a platoon of experts on medical care, mental illness and sanitation. Then, sometime next year, they'll likely hand the county a laundry list of violations and recommended improvements that could be costly.

Is this investigation being conducted by the same Justice Department that is now under the control of right-wing fanatics and headed by Reich Minister Alberto Gonzales? Looks to be. I'll be surprised if they take any substantive action that forces Dallas County to clean up its act. They'll more than likely issue some sort of toothless memorandum. But we can always hope that things will get better, just like the people abused by Hitler's Nazis hoped things would get better.

Can someone make a note of the reporter, so that maybe we can send a few reminders through the year to get them to keep on the story?

That article with the Dallas Observer was great! It is horrible how they are treated! My brother spent a year and a half in there. My boyfriend spent almost a year! I have seen how the staff reacts to the people that arent inmates so I can just imagine how they are behind bars!
I was at Lew Sterrit standing in line to give money to my brother and this girl passed out at my feet! The staff was so rude to her, I couldnt stand it I had to step in while she waited for the ambulance. I will never forget that girl as long as I live!
