Well that is a BOATLOAD of questions...

You can handle the class. You might have to spend some time with the books and on studying instead of PTO, but well, ;)... we expected that one. ;)

Each class varies, but once you go the first day and get a syllabus, it should explain EXACTLY what will be required of you, whether you will have to write papers, exams, quizzes, general info on homework, etc.

In college, I NEVER kept where my hubby is a secret. Never. And my knowledge of how things *really* worked, etc, earned me some respect from a few of my professors. (I took several Law and PoliSci classes with a major of Philosophy... it's all reasoning.. but that's another story!) I wouldn't worry about keeping it a secret. You don't have to tell if you don't want, but I wouldn't sweat it either way.

And your man might not want it to happen, but from what I've read of your posts, if memory serves me well, it's more that he doesn't want you to become a CO or for you to be exposed to some of the "darker" side of what goes on when it comes to the law. Remind him that you are trying to better yourself and get an education. AND remind him that ANY education is better than NO education, so it's good, even if you don't go into any type of criminal justice-related type of work.

Taking one class is a good start and it's a good way to get a feel if you are really interested in the area/topic. GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Wooohoooo!!

I am also a Administration of Justice major. I have taken Intro to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, and Criminal Evidence. I have found that these classes arent hard at all and due to my knowledge of the prison system and law already they are even eaiser. I wouldnt think you would have to keep the fact that your man is locked up a secret, it's your business if you want to tell or not, I didnt. As far as telling your man, I would just tell him that this is a subject you are really intrested in...probably because of him... and hopefully he will understand. What do you want to go into? I'm thinking about becoming a probation officer. Good luck!

seriously what will i have to do in this class? - nobody can tell you what you'll have to do in your specific class because that depends on the instructor and chances are none of us on here will have.
what will happen? - you'll take the required classes and the general education requirements and walk away with a degree
....is the work extra hard? - any college work can be challenging
do i have to keep secert that my hubby to be is locked up? - no, but you also don't have to talk about your personal business in the class unless you want everyone to know. It's not something I keep secret from the students and professors in my class, but I think some of them were baffled with how I knew so much about prison. I don't want people in my business though so I stay away from broadcasting it..
how do i break the news to my man? well, are you just taking ONE class or is this your degree? You tell him that this is what you're studying and if he gets mad you remind him that it's your education and there are a myriad of things you can do with your degree.

I am just finishing up my 3rd semester as a Criminal Justice Major. Some classes are more challenging than others. Yes, be prepared to write lots of papers. I don't think I have ever typed so much in my entire life. Even when I was typing 3 letters a day to my honey, that didn't compare to what I am doing now. I have taken intro to criminal justice, organizations and administration of justice, policing in America (just turned in my last paper today), Psychology 101 and 205, Intro to Sociology (did that online), English 101 and just finishing 102 (I hope), Inerviewing and case studies. Taking 5 classes starting in January. If I can do it after being out of school for 28 years and then going back, you can do it. If you ever have any questions or need any help, I am just a holler away. Yes, each school is different, but at the same time anyway I can help, count me in.
Best of luck to you!!!!!

Let's see the classes I've taken: Intro to Criminal Justice; Criminal Evidence; Race, Class, Gender and Crime; Law and Popular Culture; Family Law; the Juvenile Offender; Survery of Forensics; Crime and Deliquency...Social Justice, Poli Sci 101...

So if you need help in those areas you can ask me.
Patti is right, there are a lot of papers, and the courses that I have taken engage you - they ask questions that make you think critically about what you've read and apply it to different situations.

I'm doing online courses to get my degree as well. I was going to go through them, but I found out they were being investigated recently for fradulant degrees, so I went to National University... do a google search and see what you can find.

Hrm. I found the same thing as Whiskey. I go through Strayer University for mine. Not cheap, but I do what I've gotta do.

How many classes are you starting with? When going back to school, do NOT overload yourself. It can be really discouraging!!!

I can see why this Criminal Justice interest you. You see personally how it all works and I'm sure youre going into this thinking you can help and hopefully make someones life a little better with your work. I would explain that to him. I believe over time it will ease him that you have such interest in the well being of others who are most likely in trouble. Just talk to him, you all have a close relationship, so I think it will all work out.

Mamicita, I just got my AA in Criminal Justice from a community college and is planning on going for my B.A. I one day want to be a Probation Officer. I told my b/f from the start about my career goals and he hasn't stopped supporting me. Being a single mother of 2, it was a great challenge, but life itself is a challenge. Everyone could do it if they set their mind to it. Good luck and dont look back, continue on.

No, hun, this was from bonafide real news sources that I heard this from. For online degrees anyone CAN get a fake one which is why it's important to go to a school that's recognized for excellence, especially a school that's affiliated with online degrees, but when people ask where you got your degree, they aren't going to know if you did it online or not. -- I seriously consered UoP because it was cheaper than the school I'm enrolled in now ...

I hope you talk to your man soon.
