My sister is four months pregnant, was denied bail, and is being detained in this facility. Does anyone have any information they can provide in regards to the conditions there. Our family would like to know mainly how she is being treated and if she will be separated from other inmates due to her pregnancy, We are naturally very concerned for her well being. If anyone could please provide us with any type of information we would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your time.

The girls in MDC will take care of her. .. Pretty much in any jail or prison everyone looks out for any of ther girls that are pregnant. I wouldn't worry too much. MDC is a very clean ansd new building. She will also be a special diet if she's pregnant.
WHen I was at MDC there was a girl that was pregnant and they took real good care of her. She had her baby while I was still fighting my case (so I was still at MDC) and it was a real emotional evernt for EVERYONE (CO's included).
She will be in general population (which actually is a good thing!) however she will have a bottom bunk and all the cells are 2 man cells.
I hope all is well,
Jill

Thanks for the reply. My sister is still in there and I guess I should get used to the idea that she may be in there for a long time, we are still trying to see if they will give grant us bail, we have a second hearing next week. Well, anyhow, I wanted to ask you if it is true that when a pregnant woman delivers she remains shackled and that the only time she can spend with the baby is one day. I am not sure if you would even have the answer or not. Also, how is MDC in general, is it dangerous, fights, etc.? Are the cells really tiny? I thank you for taking the time, I am more at ease since I read your reply.
I live in the OC too!!

I hate to say this but yes they are shackled! It is sad to even say that during the birth of your child that they are afraid that you will walk away. One of my godsons was born while his mom was in Federal prison and although a very sad experience for all of us EVERYONE from the officers to the hospital staff were amazing. They do this way too many times and they were professonal and as compassionate as they were allowed to be. SUPPORT HER SUPPORT HER SUPPORT HER. She will need it. My godson is about to graduate from high school and his mom still feels guilty about the way that he came into the world!

Yes, you remain shackled the whole time. However I think you get 3 days with the baby. . . But I may be mistaken. . .It's been over 7 years since I was in MDC.
The cells are the standard 5X9. But with only 2 bunks it's alright. Plus there's flouescent lights that you control yourself and in all actuality it's not bad. Probably the nicest I've been in if you want to compare it to county jails.
SHE'S SAFE!!!! Don't worry. . .Unless she's disrespectful or has a bad attitude or likes to start trouble she'll be fine. Just stay in touch with her. I'm sure she is comfortable to have your support!
