My fiance's son is in Ventress and I have never visited a prison in my life before. We hope to see him on Feb. 4. Can anyone give me the visitation guidelines or any advice? He was sentenced to 10 yrs for drugs, did one yr house arrest, 9 yrs probation but violated and now doing the 9 yrs in prison. His new case has been continued. God bless y'all and this web site.

alabamakatkat, first of all let me welcome to you PTO, you have found a world of women/men in the same boat as yourself, there's not a single one of us that has forgotten what the first visit was like. I can say that we've all be worried about it, whether it be our first time at all, or the first time to a new facility.

But, it is not something to get stress out about, try to stay possitive..I have never visited Ventress, but you can search the threads or ask questions and someone will be along to help. but there are several "statewide" rules that must be followed.

1. nothing white, (under garment are and expection) all alabama inmates wear white, so you can not.

2. no low cut tops or tight fitting clothes

3. ID, driver license or state issued ID each and every time you visit.

4. no hats or sunglasses

each facility has there own do's and don'ts but these are all over and i'm sure there more..

wishing you a great visit and again, welcome to PTO and i look forward to seeing you around..now ask away lady...

Thanks so much Denise. We haven't been approved yet, so we are anxiously waiting to hear if we can visit on Feb 4. We will miss his visitation this Sunday. We talked to him last night, he is staying busy and has a parole hearing on Jan. 25, his first. None of us are getting our hopes up. Even if he were to get paroled, he will be sent back to Hamilton County to face a pending charge. This site is awesome. God bless you all and your loved ones.

know your car tag number
no touching except for a hug and kiss when entering and exiting a visit
you may take 30 dollars in quarters for the vending machines in a clear plastic baggy, if you don't he wont eat lunch that day
no jewerly of any kind
must have on undergarments they will check
you are not aloud to bring anything in except for the quarters, drivers liscense, birth certificates for children and 2 diapers and a few baby wipes and a clear cup or bottle for babies and toddlers
you must keep possession of the money at all times, inmates are not aloud to handle money
your shirt cannot zip or button up, you can wear a jacket inside and cannot be white or mistaken for white(tan or beige)
there is a bathroom for visitors that was clean when I was there
hit the vending machines early because those people raid those things and you might not get it if you don't
all I can think of right now

Thank you, does the button/zip shirt rule apply to his dad as well? or only the women?

It doesn't list a sex so I am sure it applies to both.
And you are also allowed to take in your car keys although they take them until you get through with your visit.

Is it just chips in the vending machines?

Please help! I ahve heard that at Ventress you have to be immediate family to visit. my boyfriend was just sent there and I am dying to see him, please tell me if this is true. Thanks

His immediate family can visit (mother, father, brother, sister) but as far as niece, nephew, uncle they can't visit. He can have 1 female friend visit him, per ADOC guidelines..
