My brother is at Centinela also. He is on D yard. He will be out sometime next year. I have never been there but plan on going soon. Can anyone tell me what visiting is like? They are on lockdown a lot though.

Well visiting is pretty much hell.. the cops are very strict on clothing and the lines sometimes get long. the weather sucks it is either really hot or really cold. It depends what race your brother is with. The hispanics and blacks are on lockdown a lot. They are on lock down right now and from what I hear they wont be getting off til June or July of 2006.. Hi, My man is at Centinela and was also transfered from Donovan after being there for a long period of time. ( I know how you feel) anyway, Centinala SUCKS compared to Donovan, Donovan is 10 times better in everything. My huzband is on the D-yard and he is hispanic so there is no visits for him...I seen him about a month ago for a weekend, I heard that weekend they had just got off lockdown...then the weekend after i went to go see him they got back on lockdown and from what im hearing its going to be for awhile!

Yes, they seem to have gotten better although, don't get too comfortable. Thier job comes before our visits and they will make it straight with you. There is alot of CO shuffling right now so this does help things but it makes me even more on gaurd to watch my P'S and Q's. I am on C yard they do get lock down but they do have more visiting privi s' than D yard. D Yard cant' play nice so they are getting tired of those guys and this is all they can do. Sucks for those families. The best color to wear on visits is black(not tight). Good luck!

Thanks for the info on outfits. This is my first visit to ANY prison (I have been to county but never the big house) I planned, to wear something kinda sexy for my man but from what im reading that is out of the question. They apparently dont even want to see pants that are kind of tight. If it had not been for you guys, I would have been in for a rude awakening. I would have been Looking real sexy and cute on my way back to San Diego and NO VISIT... :D Keep in touch everyone.

hello. my husband is on the c-yard. he transferred in july from being on reception at dovonvan and he too, says donovan is way better. i submitted my application to see him when he was at donovan and heard a response back within the 30 days. they informed me that i was denied due to a suspension on my driver's license for driving without headlights. YES, i was denied for something as silly as that...but it states that your driver's license must be valid. i was able to pay the fine only after he got transferred to centinela. i mailed them everything they asked for and am still currently waiting to hear regarding getting approved. it's now been a month and a half. my husband even heard back from his couselor who told him that our family visits were approved....all he has to do is wait until i can get approved before he gets a date. i called up to visiting and they said that they are so behind that it is going to take an additional 4-5 weeks to get approved. i couldn't believe it. all my husband wanted to do was see his newborn son before christmas (he hasn't seen him yet) and i don't think its gonna happen. everything that i've heard about centinela has been negative. we're hoping that he gets transferred out.... oh, and right now, c-yard is currently on a lockdown for something missing off of the fence. they've already been down for 1 wk now. my husband seems to think it might be a little while from what others are saying. hopefully, he'll at least get to call by christmas to talk to our 5 year old daughter. urggghhhh. did i mention....i hate centinela?

I just sent you a Private Message but decided to send the message here too so that any info provided could help others. I, too, have not received my approval yet. I know its been received at the prison since my husband advised me that he was informed it was received over a month ago. I have made arrangements to visit on 12/24 and 12/25 but I dont think its gonna happen. What number did you call to speak with the Visitations Department about the approval?

Hello Everyone, my husband is also at Centinela. I had my first visit at a prison there so I have nothing to compare to. I did not think it was too bad. But I will tell you one very annoying thing both times I have gone I had to go back about 3 or 4 times to change or leave something behind that is not allowed in and the trailer of "friend's outside" is about a football field from the entrence. So it was so much fun on my second visit when we got a contact visit and I brought my 2 year old with me. Oh and the weather sucks also that second time I went it was a hot sunny day but being a contact visit you are there all day so when the visit was over at 3pm there was a thunder/lightning storm outside so that was not fun. luckily my son and I were prepared. Anyway, you should always call right before you leave when going to a visit because you never know when the yards will be put on lock down. Especally D yard for hispanics and blacks. My husband just got moved to the Gym so he is much happier there not on lock down but still can only have the 20min behind a glass visit till all hispanics are off ld. Well I hope when you visit everything goes really good. Just bring some good music cause it's a long....drive. Good luck

i wanted to know how long it took as well. my husband already got out family visits approved by his counselor but we're still waiting for me to get approved by visiting. i turned in my application on 11/1/05 and have been waiting ever since. i've even called up to visiting several times and they tell me that the only thing i can do is wait because they're so backed up that it's taking an extra 3-4 weeks just to get approved.

It took me about 6 months to get it all processed so it did take awhile. I hope you get yours soon.

fill it out and send in a copy of your Original birth certificate and a copy of your ID and then they will approve it and tell your man to send in the money and after you wait for a date good luck:thumbsup:

Well Sleepy&Happy you seem to be the person that I needed to find. My son was transferred to Centinela in the very beginning of January. From one lockdown facility to another. We were so hoping to get a phone call from him. We have not heard his voice since last August and it is tearing both him and us up. I try so hard to be strong for him and him for me. He had me call his counselor regarding getting classified someone told him it might help and what to say and not to say. Well in the past two weeks I have called this person 4 times and each time he says "Yes he has been classified" only to get a letter from my son saying not so. I called him Monday and he said he was classified on Friday and still waiting to to get a letter from him. It seems that he is so quick to answer and he doesn't even seem to have time to look up his name. Do they memorize the names of everyone or just know all of them, I find that hard to believe. I think he is just giving me the brush off. I am so upset that I can hardly wait for the mail and then when no letter it starts all over again. HIs friend was suppose to get released a couple weeks ago and I am waiting for him to contact me and maybe get some info from him. But I think you might be the person I am looking for. Am I doing the correct thing calling his counselor, and to let you know I am very kind and considerate when talking to him don't want to make him mad. This is all new to me and could use any help you can share with me.

Sorry I know this message was for "Sleepy&Happy" but I think i can help. I would call the prison and get connected with records and give them your sons cdc# and they will tell you if he's classified or not. thats the best way. Thats what i did. (760) 337-7900.

YEAH!!!!! I got a phone call from my son this morning, finally got to hear his voice, it has been since August 2005. I am on cloud 9 doing the happy dance. He sounded good. I started to cry as soon as I realized it was him but pulled myself together, didn't want to upset or worry him. He is doing well and finally classified. He is not sure if he will be moved to a different area or stay where he is at. He says he is ok to stay where he is. Just sooooooo happy, his voice took a big load of my shoulders and worries. Said he might not be able to call for another month but that is ok. He also got a release date but hopes to get request/apply for an earlier date. I AM JUST SO HAPPY THAT I WAS HOME AND GOT TO HEAR MY SON"S VOICE!

WOW:yay: Im glad that you heard from your son!! thats great:thumbsup: Now the most it takes a inmate to get classified is about 3 weeks no more than that, or if there is a slow drag than it will take about 6 weeks. But as soon as they get to the prison with in a week they see their CCI. Now another reason why you probably did not hear from your son is beacuse maybe the yard they send him to was on LD Lock down and he did not have a chance to use the phone:( but Im glad that things worked out for you and yes one love is right you can call the number 7603377900. Hey littleone805.. NO you send the money to the marriage coordinator and you send 80.00 with the ring approval after they receive the money than they give you a DATE:D after you receive your date you have until the Friday before the weeding to go sign the license. But by the time you go to sign it your man had already sign his part , so what they do there is compare info from the one you submitted to them. And the day of the weeding you arrive early to the prison to get process and Isabel will meet you and the other girls that are going to get married and collect the 50.00 then. One thing Im going to tell you they only have weedings every 3rd saturday of the month So i guessed my date 10/15:p and you can take up to 10 guest but after the weeding i believe only 5 can stay good luck I hope that I was able to help you:thumbsup:

I am so mad! Just called access/securepac regarding my sons quarterly package. I wondered why his package had not been sent since the order last week. They told me that certain yards (2 out of the 4) are not getting the packages they are not even able to send them. I am going to try and call his counselor to see what is going on. Don't understand this. It seems this facility is purposely (spelling?) causing tension. Some get certain privleges and some don't, both people and yards? Does anyone know why?

Hello group, just happen to be eaves droppen in on your plight. I have had to deal with these type of things longer than I care to reflect back on. It is my understanding that Centinela currently has Facilities A, B and D on some form of a Modified Program. Each of the MP's seem to impact the Hispanic inmates; however, currently all on Facility B are on an MP, and their visits were restricted this past weekend. Facility A is currently just impacting the Hispanics, and the remainder of the fella's are receiving full priveleges. Facility D has been on a marathon MP, due to ongoing issues between Hispanic and Black inmates. It appears they are trying to reduce the MP on Facility D, by returning contact visits and access to telephones beginning this past week.

These MP's can really be a burdon on all impacted, but I have seen/been close to the other side. And I can tell you, that sometimes these things are necessary to protect the Husbands, Brothers, Uncles, Sons and Friends of us, who have not been as fortunate in life. Although not all may have a past of getting into fight or riots and things, but when things head south, you find yourself having to do whatever you have to do to make it back to your house at the end of the night.

I hear last week the staff there received information and found dangerous stuff on Facility B, which made them button the place back up again. I am guessing they will probably go back and search all the cells on that yard before the guys will start seeing any type of program again, which will probably be toward the end of next week. Until then, best keep then cards and letters and 5-10 flicks flying.

i just ordered my husband a package about 2 wks ago and he is on c-yard. i ordered it through access securepak and he received his package last week. i also ordered him something through their special order program but as of last week, he hadn't received that yet. i don't ever speak to someone, i just do all of my ordering on-line. i think you said your son was on d-yard....from what everyone posted, i thought they were off lock-down so i don't see why they shouldn't be getting their quarterly packages. this quarter runs jan-march.

After being on the phone all morning I found out from Centinela that the package could be sent. Then I called Access Securepak and they sent the package yesterday. I got kind of mad at the person I was talking to telling her that yesterday I was told the package could not be sent to D yard. She says "well it was sent yesterday". I told her I spent the morning on the phone with the prison and didn't need to if they would get the information correct. I think some how his package was over looked and when I called yesterday they realized that and sent it. Oh well just happy it was sent. I have ordered with them before and had no problem. Still having touble finding books we ordered and were delivered to Calipatria (he was there before being transferred to Centinela) on Dec 4. Today got some Sargeant's name and she told me to call her Friday and actually gave me her ext. number. Anyone have any ideas how I can get the books to him?

Hi guys I just wanted to know about the packaging sense we are on that subject. I sent my husband a package back in October and he still hasnt recieved it. I know alot of it is because the lockdown and everything but what do you think i should do? should i call the prison if so who should i talk to..I jut got back from seeing my husband. We had a family visit this weekend and it was the best time ever!!!! but i told him i would find out about his package..please let me know what i can do about the package.

When I called Centinela today they said packages were going to start being passed out this week. I am not sure if they just say that to get us off the phone. Lucky me got a call from my son this morning (after all the mess with the earlier phone calls to the facilities) and he said he thought he saw them handing out some packages. If I were you I would call and see where his package is. I am having the same problem with the books being sent to Calipatria. Good luck....we need it.

My son might be sent to the "Gym" can you tell me a liitle about it. He was told when you have a little time left you are sent to the gym but he heard there is lots of drama there. Can you help me out? I think it does mean he is in the B yard but you should call the facility and ask them. Thanks for any help you can give me.

In my speaking with some of the people out there, Centinela has 4 Gym Housing Units, one on each of their four yards. If you have someone in B-Gym, he is living on Facility B Yard in the Gym. Apparently the buildings were originally designed to be gymnasiums; however, due to overcrowding they enslosed them into large dormatory type housing. I am told the gyms are all on bunk beds with lockers, and they hold up to 120 inmates in each gym. The gyms have bathrooms, showers, common use TV's, game tables, and telephones to call outside. I hear that it can be noisy in these buildings because there are alot of guys doing guy things in a pretty close area. Because they are not as secure as cell type housing, they normally put guys in there that are getting close to their release dates or are not too much of a threat to the others. I hope this helps a bit.:thumbsup:

One more question about the gym yards. Is there lots of drama and problems at the gym yards. The men where my son is at keep telling him that so of course he doesn't want to go. It seems they get use to a certain place and want to stay. They seem to find other men to watch each other's back as my son says and when they get moved start all over again. Sometimes I think lots of words get said whenever someone is moving. They probable like to think that other places are worse so that it makes where they are more livable.

Well my man's in Centinela and i try to go visit every 2 weeks, but lately B-yard has been on lockdown for a while now, i guess some riot popped off between the blacks and the hispanics if anybody knows or hears any news reply to this. Thx.

I wonder what will happen with the lockdown status because of what happened at Wayside. My son thought the place was going to be coming off lockdown soon but now this riot. It seems that being on lockdown is a easier way out for the facilities and they can blame all the slowness on the fact "we are on lockdown" or at least that is what I usually get when I call and try to get information. I do think they are all getting the quarterly packages or at least my son said it seemed like lots were being handed out. He is waiting for his.

Well welcome to PTO and like Sleepy&Happy says to the hell known as CENTINELA...but yeah they are a lot better on the dress code they are not too strict as before....I talk to my husband yesterday and he said that they got them on lockdown but they are off that's how he called me yesterday...I don't know what is going now but any info I get I will let you know....my husband is on D yard and yes they are usually on lockdown a lot....that is hell for me....well yes, lets keep in touch....

Hello, everyone... My man had also got transferred to Centinela State Prison and he is in the A yard. He's been there for about a month now. How's the A yard for the African Americans? Are they on lock down a lot too. He came from Wayside for a long period of time then, and Delano for a short period... Now, this is my first time about this approval stuff but my family had schooled me on some things. So, right now I'm makin' sure that my record is koo and bill's are paid up to date and credit is koo, DMV no tickets so far, I'm goin' the speed limit and followin' the rules ya digg. Who knows what they might check I just wanna be straight. I am just so happy with the contact visits now, no more window in the way... ;0) Well, yall stay in touch and take care...

:angry: Hey everyone..did anyone go up to visit on Saturday? well if you didnt let me tell you what happened. I got up there around 10 they freaken took forevr to process me. It took about 2 hours literally!!! then when I finally got to see my husband it was around 12:30 then 10 minutes later 10 minutes!!! they said visiting was cancelled because of the electricity going off!!! and they couldnt fix it. I was heated!! so was my husband!! but whatever atleast i got to see him and hug him. I just wasted to much gas!!! alright im done...lol

Talked to my son today and it has been over 2 weeks since a phone call. He says it seems as soon as they are off lockdown something happens and they are back on again. I swear it is just easier for the staff for them to be on lockdown so it doesn't take much to put them on. I was there on Sat. on Ad. Seg. visit. My visit was over by 12 & everything went pretty smooth. I was actually surprise of the short line and empty visiting room.
