What mail supplies are available to Twin Towers (LA County Jail) inmates? Do they have access to indigent supplies (metered envelopes, etc) like state inmates do? If the need money for their books to purchase supplies, how much? (I.e., can they buy a couple of stamps, or must it be a full $7.40 book? Envelopes? Etc.)

Trying to figure out how to get paperwork in and out, and to coordinate some stuff, and jail is a new one for me.

I feel like I'm way too much of an expert on Twin Towers!! My boyfriend is currently there, awaiting his FIRST transfer ever to State, so that will be a new venue for me. Anyway - let me see if I can answer your questions.
- When people go into to twin towers - they only get a small "fish kit" which has some basics in it such as toothbrush and some personal items. I think they can get a metered envelope or two - and they can usually get a lined piece of paper or two from someone.
- However.....they really do need $$ on their books to buy anything. They have to purchase stamps and envelopes, cards, snacks, additional personal items, - really -
everything, because whatever came in the fish kit gets used and not replaced by the county. If you just want to be able to fund writing supplies - $20.00 is enough, per week on their books. But I know many people in there who spend upwards of $150 per week on "Store" just to keep their supplies replenished. I myself have spent over $400 per month putting $$ on his books and that does NOT include any phone cards, as he calls me collect. That has cost me another $400 a month, on average!! (But yeah - he calls me several times a day, so we could cut down on that)

As harsh as it sounds, this isn't a person I'm connected to in any real way, just someone I'm trying to help out; she has property there and at the police department where she was arrested, and I'm trying to work out how to get that property released to me so I can send it to her family (3,000+ miles away). So mail is my only real concern; her family has sent in some limited funds for other supplies, but there's a real question as to whether or not she has stamps, envelopes, etc.

What would be the minimum you'd need to purchase a few stamps (if they can be bought in small quantities), paper, envelopes?

I think with $5.00 she could purchase a few stamps and a few envelopes. I believe you can purchase those in quantities of just one, if you want. They only order once a week, though so you need to find out what day their store order is due. My boyfriend is in Tower 1 of Twin Towers and his store order is due Wednesday evening (the $ has to be on their books by midnight of that night) and their store items are then delivered on Thursday evening. Not sure if all Twin Towers have the same order day or if it goes by floors, etc. Hope that helps....let me know if you need more info -
