I have read several threads about mail, prisions and your feelings on family members being in prision. It has helped me tremediously. My cousin went into Jesup in Georgia and went into a holding cell for 4 days. He has since called his parents and sounds fine. I'm following all the advice on sending him mail with pictures printed on the back and scenting my letters with perfume. Great idea! I'm trying for 2 letters a week but I'm having a hard tme finding things to say. Well, I feel what I do have to say is so unimportant compared to what he has to face on a daily bases. I have decided to take each letter and make it a theme and talk about one thing at a time so he gets a sense of who our family is and make it as funny as I can and then print pictures that follow that theme on the back of the letters.
I'm still filled with sadness. I'm trying to be positive saying this is his second chance to reflect on his decisions in his life and have a second chance at doing something he loves once he comes out.
His first family visit is this Thanksgiving weekend. I can't wait to hear how that went.
By the way, I love the quote, A friend is someone who walks in when others walk out.
Cheers,
LAS

I think that's excellent advice LAS and welcome to PTO!(I am glad you will be writing to your cousin regularly and your idea of making a theme of each letter is really creative.:) )
