What is that policy about "leading" or "inticing" posts???? lol

The 2004 (2nd Annual) National Conference will be held in Orlando, Florida.

We are now focusing on working out the details for lodging, conference center and so on. The date is also up in the air and I will put up a poll soon to see what date is most popular. It will likely be in late Feb, March or Early April.
We realize most of March is a Spring Break month so we are going to try and navigate that one properly.

Thanks to everyone who voted and submitted ideas!

YAY YAY YAY! Count me & Miz M in for sure, and maybe even The Wayne! The PTO conference may have its first just-released-within-the-last-six-months-or-less formerly incarcerated loved one!! That is if he can stand to ride in the car with us noisy women for several hours! :p

Less than an hours drive from me. I think I can handle that!!!!!

Fed Ex-don't forget the races in February, Bike Week in March and Spring Break anywhere from the end of February till the beginning of May and Black College Reunion is in March/April. All of these events tie in with bookings & lodging in Orlando!!!

Yes, Phil is now OFFICIALLY REQUIRED to be there.

Phil will be there. Phil will certainly fly American Airlines via New York (less than $500). Phil will arrive in JFK and will depart from LGA, so he needs informations as how to go (cheapest way) from one airport to another. Phil would love to fly from LGA to Orlando with New York members. :)

Phil would also like to know how long it takes to drive from Orlando to Raiford to go visit Joey.

David, as you know, Phil is now working in a Best Western group hotel, so Phil will try his best to get a good rate in a Best Western for the conference. Phil needs to know the dates.

In real time it won't take nearly that long. I go from Daytona to almost the Georgia state line to see Corey in less than three.

I've found Mapquest & Yahoo maps tend to put at least 1/2 hour to an hour and fifteen minutes extra on my drive... they're great resources but you can't really count on the time factor that often...

If people would like to stay until Monday in order to take advantage of a theme park that can be worked out as well.

Please post in this thread ONLY if you are comming to the conference. Any question in regard to this should be posted in a new thread or sent to me or Jdswifey by PM.

We are working with a few hotels and need to determine how many rooms will be needed.
Up to 4 people can share a room and obviously your rate will be cheaper per person the more people in a room. Keep in mind that there will a small conference charge for those attending that are not staying in the hotel. This will cover use of the conference room as well as other ammenities.
Those planning to share a room should have one person post and state who will be sharing the room with them.
Dates of deposits will be posted once the hotel is secured.
Again please post here if you are definately attending ONLY.

How far is Lakeland from Orlando, I don't remember. I don't think that it would really be worth the drive if it is over 70 miles, so we will probably book a room in Orlando for the conference. Just have to be close to Lakeland, for Mom and Dad.

LAkeland is very close to Orlando but again it depends where in Lakeland. From I-4 to the hotel from the lakeland exit...I would say about 30-40 minutes

That is what I am waiting on as far as the location of the hotel. If it is 30-40 minute drive then I will not stay over nite. If it's in Altamonte Springs which is on the other side of Orlando, I will room in the hotel as that would be an almost 2 hour drive. Although if the construction is still terrible on I-4 by then i may consider the hotel stay anyway. Yvonne

Hi I'm new to PTO and would like more info about the 2004 conference.

You're all so sweet !!! :) But I don't know if I'll still be as good lookingas you say come March !! On 10/01 I quit smoking to pay this damn flight, have saved a little bit more than one third of the price, but now I'm always hungry, and can't help eating all day long !!! So I took weight !!! :argh Something like 4 lbs in 3 weeks !!! :( And it's all Joey's fault !! He's so proud that I quit smoking (he doesn't smoke), he encourages me in all his letters, and told me to "suck on candy each time I feel like smoking" !!! Well, maybe I should try other candies....:D

Anyway, I'm leaving in less than 150 days !!!!! WOOHHHOOOO !!!!

Phil! Good for you for quitting smoking! It's not easy, I know... I'm trying to quit for the second time! Quit for 2 1/2 years before I started up again... oh well! Weight gain? Don't gain too much... you have to model that speedo for us :D Seriously though, don't worry about it too much. Your body's metabolism takes a nose dive when you quit smoking. Try fruits and veggies instead of candy; ya know, celery, carrotts, cucumbers, bananas.... :D

Children are welcome to be at the hotel but during the presentations and speakers they will be beyond board and have to be quiet. That could be hard for kids as I am sure you know ;). The hotel may provide babysitting service but I would have to inquire about it. My suggestion is that you may want to take it as a weekend for yourself.

I paid $268 which gets me from Boston to LGA, LGA to Orlando, then I have a direct flight back to Boston. All AA flights. When I checked about a month ago it was going to be over $300. I probably could've gone cheaper but I was trying to avoid layovers and/or changeovers :) Sounds like you have a great deal! :D

Hi Shannon as far as what goes on at the conferences, an admin will have to answer that. but yes your fiance and whomever else may attend. But you can invite people to the conference. However, if you all don't stay at a hotel, they will have to pay to attend the conferences, I believe. I do know that there are speakers and activities, things like that at the conferences. Someone will come answer your other ques.

I am checking flights trying to get the best price of course lol. I find that time of year the flights have increased substantially. Is something else going on around that time?
Anyway I am planning on staying for probably 7 days or so. I am trying to find out if it will be cheaper for me to book a flight and hotel package. So it would be helpful if you could give me some ideas about the hotels we may be using.

The rates that we get for the hotel will be as a group rate so I really don't think you'll fiund anything cheaper. FLights probably seem very high now but the should get cheaper as time goes on. MArch and April are spring break time and traveling is big during that time so it may have something to do with it.

I'm so BUMMED, can't go this year! BUT, the PTO Hawaii Contingent is going to try and plan a GTG to coincide around the time of the International Conference. I'd also like to look into a telecom hook up so that at least we'll be able to participate in a PORTION of the conference, even if it means using my prepay cell phone and cranking up the volume loud enough for all of us to hear at Kailua Beach (heeheehee!!!) OR I can beg, borrow or acquisition a conference phone to do the job.

I'd like to know what has been lined up so far as to speakers at the conference. Are there any activists speaking, who can guide us as how to make a change in the system? Both on a federal and state level. The support here is wonderful and very needed and with the daily increasing numbers of members, we can be a force to be reckoned with. This however takes leadership from those in the know as how to do it.

I know there's a board for room sharing - but how bout car sharing? I live in Southweat VA, looked at the prices of flights, and thought if someone else in the area was going, we could rive my car and share the gas expense and drinving. Then I won't have to rent a car also! The drive is approx 10 hrs from where I live (Wytheville, VA) to Orlando.

Anyone from around the Southwest area, or even NC area that would like to share a ride, gas prices and driving? I'm sure it's cheaper than the flight + renting a car! We could even share with up to 3 others - my car seats 3 passengers comfortably. I don't mind using my car - it's no problem. If anyone is interested, send me a PM and we can discuss!

I'd love to share a room with 1 or 2 others - I'm also looking to share in the driving (don't mind using my car) - it's a 10 hr drive. If you live in Southwest VA, or NC on the way - wanna share the driving, and the gas money for the ride? After checking out the airline prices + rental car, it's just too much for me. But if I can find 1 or 2 people willing to share the drive, it'd be perfect. Since I've had 4 back surgeries (disabled vet), it;s too difficult for me to drive 10 straight hrs be myself.

What day is the actual conference? The email said somethin about checking in by 3pm and the conference starts at 4-4:30pm..but what day?! The time is nearing again for the Annual PTO conference!!!

March 19th - 21st 2004

This year not only will our conference be national but in essence it will be INTER-national with members coming from Canada and as far as Europe. Last years conference was a success and as our first annual conference we were able to gain insight how to make each years conference grow and be that much better. This year we will have a variety of knowledgeable and experienced speakers attending to provide us with information about issues and concerns we have in regard to the current prison system. We will also be located at the entrance to Downtown Disney and will have plenty of time to enjoy each other's company and share experiences with others who DO know exactly what we're going through.

PTO membership has risen to approximately 14,600+ members. We'd love to see each and every one of you attend the conference. Together, through joint knowledge and power, the level of support for those with a loved one on the "inside" will never cease to grow.

Also, as stated before, this hotel is at the entrance of downtown Disney that is loaded with restaurants, clubs, bars and a ton of sight seeing and shopping. There will be free time to enjoy this as well.
There is no charge to enter downtown Disney and it is walking distance from the hotel. (Approximately 1 block) They also provide shuttle service if needed.

The rates are as follows and are per room NOT per person. The rates are also for the entire conference NOT per night. The rate includes:
2 hotel nights
Breakfast on Sat.
Conference fee
Use of the conference room and hotel amenities
Tax and gratuities

*Please note that should you desire to order room service, use the room phone, order movies or use Internet access from the room you will be responsible for the charges.

Rate per room is $240

This means if there are 4 people in a room the cost is $60 per person for the entire weekend.
3 people = $80
2 people = 120
The max is 4 people per room.

Deposits are due by February 1, 2004.
The deposit is 1/2 of the total room fee or $120. If you are sharing a room please work out the payment details with each other and send only 1 deposit per room. In other words, if there are 4 of you sharing have 3 send money to the 4th person and that person mail the funds to the below address.
Please include a note with your deposit stating who you will be sharing a room with (who the deposit covers: screen name and real name) and if you'd like a smoking or non-smoking room.
Finial payments are due by Feb. 10th, 2004
Rooms will be secured by deposits only.

ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE BY MONEY ORDER. NO PERSONAL CHECKS OR CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED AND WILL BE RETURNED TO THE SENDER.

*Shuttle service from the airport cost about $20 round trip. I will post the details in regard to this soon. It is much cheaper to use the shuttle bus rather than a taxi.

If you plan on attending the conference but will not be staying at the hotel the conference fee is $25 per person for the weekend. These payments are due no later than February 1, 2004. Please include a note with the payment stating you will be attending the conference but not using a room.

In added updated news, PTO has recently launched V2. If you haven't been around in a while come and check it out. I guarantee you've never seen an online community as advanced as the new PTO!

Well I'm not sure - I may have but at about the same time I had a virus hit my computer and I started losing all my Microsoft data. I think I got the pre-virus of Mydoom which was call Msearch.A. lady_hawk - this thread is for setting up room sharing - I will PM you about the conference.

The PTO conference is a get-together that is rather structured and organized.... The one we are having in March is the "second annual" conference and something we will organize every year....
It gives people the chance to meet face to face and have some fun together... but we are also trying to make it an experience where people can learn and come together to organize and move toward activism as well.....
We all stay in the same hotel and have a conference room where we will have meetings and speakers and organized "social" activities.... :) DEFINITELY a good time and a wonderful experience!

We are going to be in the evening of the 16th, but we won't be staying at the hotel. My parents gave us a week at a condo near the hotel in celabration of one year free.

Mom and Dad live in Lakeland, we do plan on spending time with them before and after the conference. Haven't seen them since last year. But, maybe we can get together. I'n fact, we would love to!!!

"hey, lookie here" "dang, haven't seen that in a long time, think I'll take it" ... "no, :eek: I don't like any of this" ... off to the floor it all goes (gee, hope the Fairies hang all this up for me while I'm gone) ... I shall start again later need to go fix a bit of libation, lite a cig and think about it some more :idea: ... but, I'll be ready by Saturday when Jen picks me up ... I think! :D :haha:

Barbara is the Executive Director of the newly chartered chapter of Florida CURE. She will be discussing her goals in launching the new state chapter and the need for support and assistance to reform Florida state prisons.

Michael presented at last year’s conference and is returning this year to speak about his latest book, How to Love and Inspire Your Man After Prison. He has also written How to Do Good After Prison: A Handbook for the “Committed Man.” Michael is not only an author, but an ex-con, a former parolee, a motivational speaker and an employee of a state parole agency.


4:00 pm SPEAKER: George Crossley Conference Room

George is a former inmate of Union Correctional Institution, which is most widely known for housing Florida’s death row. He will discuss some of the atrocities he witnessed firsthand. George has been involved in civil liberties for over 40 years and has worked closely with Kay Lee and Making the Walls Transparent.


5:00 pm SPEAKERS: Sherry_F & JessP Conference Room

Two members and moderators of PTO will be presenting information regarding the launching and details of the all new and improved “Contact News.” What began as a small newsletter is soon to become a regularly published newspaper.

please bring those directions !!!! I don't know why, but mapquest DOESN'T know 7819 nw 228th street in Raiford !!! :mad: So I've got directions from the hotel to Raiford, NOT to the prison !! I printed out Mapquest directions, and also FLDOC directions, but the road they give on both sites are not the same !!! :mad: And moreover, I'm NOT the orientated kind of guy and I get lost VERY easily !!!

So please, bring your directions with you !!!

Dr George went to see Representative Joan Cusack of Volusia County. The Session is stated She is in Tallehassee but her aid was grateful for the information She would pass it on to representatine pat patterson A new proposal for half way houses for inmates when they get out opens our door. THEY CAN ADD THE OMBUDSMAN PROPOSAL AS AN AMMENDMENT> I still don't know of I am doing this right but we need to get to as many Offices as quickly as possible We can win if we do this

Well, at 10:00 am local time this morning the Frenchy was back to Paris.

I wanted to go to this conference for 2 reasons: I wanted to meet the PTO family, and of course, I wanted to visit Joey. Well, I couldn't fullfill one of these goals I didn't get to see Joey !!!!!

It all started about 3 weeks before I flew to the US. Someone at FSP, a sergeant, doesn't either like Joey or french people or gay people or all of these, and decided to screw up our visit. He wrote up Joey for some stupid reason, causing our visit to be terminated before it even started.

Joey immediately wrote Michelle (Bella), to ask for her help, and she decided to work behind the scene and don't tell me anything for the moment. Eventually, a captain didn't accept the Disciplinary Report, and asked the sergeant to re-write it which probably pissed him off. Anyway, he didn't do it, and told Joey he won't be that lucky the next time.

One week later, the exact same sergeant gave Joey another D/R for the exact same reason, plus many other stupid and unrealistic ones. This time, it was another captain, and he accepted the D/R.

Normally, when they are told they will get a D/R, they are served the D/R papers 1 or 2 days later. This time they gave him the papers 1 week later. Meaning that meanwhile I got some letters from him telling me they once again didn't give him the D/R and were surely playing with his (OUR) nerves.

This was like a rollercoaster of emotions for me, and certainly for him too. One day I got a letter saying he got the D/R, then another one saying he didn't, then still another one saying he did.

During those 3 weeks, Michelle was the link between Joey and I to get our communication faster. She called me many many times, and I called her many many times.

When Joey eventually received his D/R papers, Michelle started to call everywhere from Joey's warden all the way up to Tallahassee, so that we could still get our special visit despite the D/R. She spoke to a nice lady working for the DOC who felt so sorry for me, that she decided to do her best to get us our visit. Once again, Michelle and I called, e-mailed and PMd almost everyday. When I left for New York last wednesday, I still didn't know whether we'll get this visit or not.

On friday morning, Michelle called this lady and her secretary told her she was speaking with Mr Crosby, the FLDOC general secretary, about Joey and I. That was our last chance, I think we couldn't get higher in the FLDOC hierarchy.

In the afternoon, she called back: the answer was NO !!! I got to talk to her on the phone, and she was very sorry for me, and even apologized that she failed getting our visit back. She explained me that they were pretty close to say yes, but since there are other people from overseas visiting at FSP, they didn't want to make an exception once, or they could take the risk to have to make the same in the future for other visitors. So it was NO. :(

Needless to say I was devastated, and certainly so was Joey. We were so excited those last months counting down the days, and at the last minute, our visit is denied just because of a sgt who is a b@$t@rd and a son of a b***h. This is SO unfair !!! But we all know that we can't win against the DOC.

Anyway, I must say that when this lady called to say the visit was denied, the PTO family was around me, and everybody went out of his way to warm my heart up and support me. I want to thank all of them, and please know your kindness was greatly appreciated.

Well, the FLDOC hurt Joey and me badly with this visit, BUT, they were NOT strong enough to completely ruined my trip to the US. Everybody did his best to make my stay over there enjoyable, and I DID enjoy being at the conference, and I DID have fun. Despite the fact I was deeeply hurt and sad, I'm not the type to lay down and cry, so I decided to temporarily forget my sadness and move forward. Once again, the PTO family was a great help, and I did have fun !!!

My trip to the US

I left on wednesday 03/17 to New York JFK. My flight was delayed by 2 hours due to bad weather conditions in NYC. In fact it was snowing. When I arrived at the airport after an 8 hours and 25 minutes flight, Ivory was there, waiting for me. She drove me to her place, where I met her son and later on her husband. We stayed at her place for an hour, waiting for a phone call from another PTO member who was supposed to join us, and eventually didn't call. So Ivory and I decided to go to the city and have fun. A friend of her husband drove us down to Manhattan, directly to Chinatown where we had dinner. After, we went to Greenwich Village to see the funny shops... Because of the snow and the cold, we stopped by in a bar for a drink, then kept on strolling in the Village. We arrived around Union Square and found an Irish pub where we took another drink, then another one... It was a karaoke party, and we had much fun, even though none of us actually sang.
Then we went back to her place and went to bed.

On the following day, Ivory drove me to LGA airport where my plane departed from to Orlando. Before this, we had to stop by a bagel shop, because Sweetpea and Bella had asked me to bring them down bagels and black and white cookies from New York. So we had to go to 2 different places to comply with their orders. Then Ivory dropped me off at LGA airport, and apologized for not waiting with me, because she had to go work. Well, that's what SHE said. In fact I highly suspected her to be too afraid to enter the airport together with a frenchy and his 18 bagels in a plastic bag, stuck on the top of his luggage !!! :D Anyway we kissed and hugged good bye.

Ivory is a very sweet and friendly lady, and she did make my stay in NYC, nice and enjoyable. Ivory, if you read this, thank you once again for this pleasant stay with you and your family, I really love NYC, and it was really nice walking down the streets with you.

In LGA airport I was to meet Jessie (jessp), since we were supposed to fly together down to Orlando. Well, I found her rather easily, she was the only one with a Red Sox sweat shirt in NY airport !!! She offered me a Red Sox cap and a Yankee one, and I decided to live dangerously and wear the Red Sox cap. The girl at the boarding gate almost denied us boarding because of that !!

Jessie and I had a wonderful time together. It was as if we've known each other forever, and we talked and talked and talked, and if the poor guy who was sat next to us ever read this thread, I want to apologize for any inconvenience he encountered during this flight !!! HEY Sir remember us ??? The 2 noisy and hysterical Red Sox fans sat next to you !!! :D

2 hours and 2 bottles of wine (each) later, we eventually landed at Orlando airport. We decided to wait for Sherry F (David's mom) whose flight was delayed and landed half an hour after ours, so we went outside and smoked cigarettes on top of cigarettes.

Eventually, Sherry arrived and I met a wonderful and sweet lady, no wonder why she's our Big Boss's mom !! We also started talking as if we've known each other forever, that was great.

Pam's flight was supposed to land 30 minutes later, so we decided to wait for her too. So we stayed outside, smoking chatting and laughing, and Pam at least showed up. Despite her Montana/Connecticut accent, she too is a wonderful and sweet person. I could only understand her when I was drunk, which in fact was rather often....., but she always made me laugh, and she's a real nice girl too.

Barb (BSS) flight was to land half an hour later, and we also decided to wait for her. At this point, I was beginning to think that all I would ever see from Florida will be Orlando airport !!! :D

We went in to have a drink while waiting for Barb. The waitress was a very funny girl, and for some reason she wanted me to drink one of those Australian yucky beers, a Foster which tastes nothing (sorry Kyla...), but she was nice, so I didn't want to disappoint her.

When we got back outside to meet Barb, B-Ray and Michelle were there. It was nice to meet Michelle in person after having talked to her so many times on the phone. She is of course as nice in real life as she is on PTO, except that she speaks a lot with her hands, which isn't obvious in her posts. You're wonderful Mish !!!!

B-Ray IS great and friendly and funny, and fortunately, "da ol' goat" doesn't speak the same way he writes otherwise I guess I would never have understood him !! But he's definitely a great guy, and I'm happy to know him.

And at last, the x-mas/b-day cards project mom showed up, like the Diva, the last one !! What could I say about Barb ?? Barb is Barb, that's all !! Sweet friendly and nice with red hair !!

So, we went to the hotel, and arrived to this incredible kitsch building, the dream of each and every drag queen !! Huge faked pineapples and palm trees everywhere on the VERY colorfull walls !!! A dream for Priscilla Queen of the desert and La Cage aux Folles !!! Anyway, the hotel was just great and comfortable, and the employees very friendly and welcoming.

Shawna (JDsWifey) was expecting us. Another nice and sweet girl !! She's always happy, no matter what. Even when she wants to sleep and Michelle and I have decided she won't !!! She's just too cute !!

Since Ken (tebkrg ) unfortunately had to cancel his trip at the last minute due to his job, I shared Michelle and Shawna's room. Actually, it was more or less the PTO room, everybody was going in and out this room any time, day and night. The bottles were in this room.......

After I took a shower, I went down to the lobby, and met all the other members of the family: Lysbeth, Mrs D and the Friscos who also are a bunch of sweet and wonderful ladies !!! I will just add something about Lynn (Lysbeth). For some reasons, from her posts, I thought she talked fast. Well, when this Alabama girl says: "hi nice to meet you", it takes her 20 minutes !!! :D Sorry sweety, couldn't help it.

Cheena joined us, and we all went to the swimming pool and have a drink while waiting for the Big Boss, David, and Laurie, her #1 fan.

Like any other superstar, he took them forever to arrive !!! David was calling every 20 minutes to say "we arrive, we arrive", and we were all on pins and needles expecting THE Boss. He eventually showed up, with Laurie his girl friend, his cap and his Texas accent !! I won't tell you that David is wonderful, since we all know that David is wonderful. Anyway, David is wonderful !! :)

So we drank and talked and had fun together, first by the swimming pool, then in Michelle Shawna and I's bedroom. Untill......... 4:00am..... I was just dead, because of the jet lag, and because of so many people speaking American around me. My poor brain couldn't print anymore !!

On friday morning, we went down to the swimming pool, and other nice and sweet PTO members were there: CathyFl, Christine (Samiam) and Jeny (missingjoe), then later in the afternoon came Girasol, mrskendrick2you Sweetpea our Florida forum leader, Buccaneer and her husband, Yvonne (James girl) etc etc... We went to the conference room, and introduced ourselves.

After work, we went to Pleasure Island in Disney Village, and drank and danced all night long..... I even rock n rolled with Sherry, David's mom, that was so nice !!! Well, I discovered the Tequilla shots, and I was offered many Tequilla shots...... NO COMMENTS. I don't remember what time we went to bed, all I remember was a heavy headache on Saturday morning !!!

The conference started at 09:00 am, the time I should have signed in at FSP :( Believe me, it was painful to think of this !! Anyway, Richard from Telenet offered us a real good breakfast, and told us about his company. Then we had Rita, an ex-convict, Katrina (Ravenswitch) from the Jeff Dicks coalition, then Michael and George who both are ex-convicts.

All these people were VERY interesting and had a LOT to tell and teach us, and despite the fact the conference was in American, I really enjoyed listening to them. I really learned a lot, and only for this, it was worth the trip.

Saturday night, we still managed to go to bed at dawn. Gosh, the nights are short in the US !!! On sunday morning, the Friscos talked about ToniB and the experience of incarceration. That was VERY great and also VERY moving !!! Thank you girls.

Mrs D did good with the Chinese auctions, and managed to bring PTO some $$$. Thanks to the Chinese auctions I got back home with some American wine and BBQ sauce, and great cards made by Barbara's son and friends !! :)

Sunday evening, I had to go back to Paris. NOT NICE !!! I really didn't feel like returning, and leaving all my FRIENDS and my lover behind me. The good byes were heart breaking, but I "almost" didn't cry.....

My flight back to Paris was long (8 hours), and I was feeling so sad and lonely. When the aircraft left the Floridian coast, I couldn't help crying, knowing this damn plane was taking me away from Joey and my friends.

I want to thank all the people who were at the conference for the warm and sweet welcome they gave me, and also for being here and supportive when I badly needed being comforted. You ALL are awesome, and thank you again for the wonderful time I had with all of you.

Thanks for sharing the story with us Phil. I"m glad I wasn't sharing a room with you all because I could NOT have kept up! I'm sure we'll continue to hear more stories about the conference. Phil a couple words. fire sale. Don't let them win. The thing about the "exception" is that the DR seemed totally bogus. I can emphathize, as I had so much trouble meeting C, my foster kids' brother the first time. I definitely shed tears over that. Had to have a judge Ok the visit, then he was transferred Friday the weekend we left. The third try was the charm. I didn't even tell him we were coming for fear of yet something else blocking us. Seeing them together made it all worth it. He and I are close now.

awwww Phil that is one of the nastiest things I have heard yet, about your visit. That's their classic line- "if we let YOU do this we'll have to let EVERYONE do it..." as qwerty says, you mad me feel like I was there which I so wanted to be. Thanks...hugs...I think we shoud all move to one state (maybe Hawaii, the weather's good?) and just TAKE OVER....tell them to ship us all these folks they want rehabilitated (certain ones) and we'll do it ourselves, no worries...

On friday 03/19, when this lady called me to tell our visit was actually denied, it was Joey and I's 2nd year anniversary, and we were supposed to visit first time the day after :( Thank you FLDOC for such a wonderful anniversary !!! :mad:

I don't know if they realize that when they "punish" them, it also affects a lot of people. They punished me since I was so happy to at last be able to see him in person, and they KNEW I was coming over. Then they also affect us on a financial level. I've counted today, and I spent $1200 on this trip. FORTUNATELY, besides my visit, there also was the conference, otherwise it would have been as if I threw $1200 through the window !!! And it also affected Bella because of all those phone calls she made to France !!!

I also can't imagine what Joey was thinking in his cell on saturday morning. Since he didn't exactly know what Michelle and I were doing to get this visit back, I suppose he was hoping and hoping and was feeling more and more sad and sorry as long as the hours went by... :(

The other thing I'd like to add (then I promise I'll shut up !!! :D ) is that Lynn is NOT from AL but from TN. But anyway, she still speaks wayyyyyyyy sloowwwww :p Sorry Lynn sweety, at least you're one of those who didn't give me a headache trying hard to understand what they said. (NO David, I was not referring to you..... :D )

Thanks so much for posting this, you know, you have been so much in our thoughts the past few days, thats why we wanted you in chat so bad the other night in the PTO chat conferance. I am so sorry that you didnt get your visit with Joey, but I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay as well.
Oh, and dont feel bad... FOSTERS SUCK!!! I totally agree with you. But the Fosters that they sell in the US is lower in alchohol content than here. If you want a good aussie beer, drink a Carton Cold :)

Phil reported everything so wonderfully and perfectly I don't have anything to add about the conference!! Well, except that half of my left arm and all of my right are severely sunburned 'cos I spent all Sunday afternoon by the pool with the cell phone up to my ear talking to Danielle (who couldn't come to the conference, and by the way speaks as slow or slower than me since she's from BFE Mississippi, LOL!), so the arm that was holding the phone only got half sunburned! I look deformed and it's all her fault!!! :mad: :D

I can't tell you guys how heartbreaking it was for those of us who were there when the phone call came and we realized the answer about Joey & Phil's visit was a great big "NO'. It was all I could do not to burst into tears myself 'cos I didn't want Phil to feel worse. I know it was a pricey trip just to hang out with us, Phil sweetie, but I'm glad you had a good time (and had your first ever tequila shot) anyway... {{{{hug}}}}

Anyway, make no mistake tho gang - Phil was THE star of the show all weekend! Everyone who walked into the hotel immediately asked where Phil was and wanted to meet him.... everyone in the chat room Sunday morning wanted to know about Phil and had a million questions about Phil... LOL, he was truly the king of the 2004 Conference! (And I'm glad!) :)

Oh yeah, about people giving him headaches trying to understand what they said... me and Phil and JDswifey were up late yakking away one night - well, mainly Phil trying to keep up with listening to me and JDs yak away! - and poor Phil, at one point he put his head in his hands (and we were all sooooo tired anyway, few of us got much sleep all weekend) and moaned: "Can't we all just speak French now?!?!?!?!" LOLOLOLOL!

But he really did hang in there great with all the American English and all the bunches of different accents splendidly and I'd have to say that after many many drinks that first night out Bella and I were probably understanding his English better than I was understanding her Noo Yawk talk and she my Suth'rn. ;) And also that Phil speaking French is tres sexy! :p

Oh, and Phil, I don't EVER want to hear you say ANOTHER word about my loooooooong posts again after this thread!!!! Hehehehehe just kidding, sweetie! :D

Bottom line is that Phil is just as precious and dear in offline life as he is here on PTO and I wish all of you could have met him!!! Maybe (fingers crossed) at the next PTO conference you all can! He just THOUGHT he got a headache trying to understand the 40 or so of us Americans there, maybe next year there will be a few HUNDRED different people with different accents - HA!!!! :D

dear Phil....I have been waiting waiting waiting to hear from you here, how it all went and the visit of course...I never thought it would be like this...I am so sorry...for you and Joey....It is 5.33 in Belgium and I am in front of my computer feeling so sad and upset...I have no idea what to say to you now...I can just imagine the long trip back home...But re reading your words on here again, I see, that you are a very strong man and I wiosh I had just a bit of that strenghts and happiness you have at times. I agree that we should all send Joey cards to cheer him up. For those of us who were blessed to make Phil's acquaintance at the conference, we should also let Joey know how absolutely wonderful Phil is. In fact, we should also send Phil cards to cheer him up. All we need are two addresses. The conference was wonderful and we hope that more members will join us in California next year!

Rita is a member of National CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants), FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums), and the November Coalition. She discussed recent positions taken by these organizations in Washington D.C. in regard to reforming the system and explained some of the prison-related bills that are up for approval by Congress right now...

I was going to wait until I got back in Tejas to tell everyone how much fun I had and that I miss you gals already but hey.. I got a few minutes here in BFE..

This years National Conference was spectacular! First, I have to thank Bella (My Big Bad Baby Yank Sister)& JDsWifey02 ((Beeotch)) (who didn't say goodbye to me!!!!!!) for all of their hard work! This year, like last years conference, was strictly their doing.. I had little involvement and it is just amazing me how much hard work they pour into it and the results. Every year it gets better!! Thank you both! Know that we had a blast..!

Next I have to recognize the man that traveled the furthest by far!! Our own Phil in Paris!! I had a blast with you and my only regret was that we never got to actually kick back, relax and talk.. No matter how much work Shawna and Michelle do, I seem to run around like an Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorderrf adult without his meds! :p It was an honor and a treat to meet you and my mother had a blast with you on the dance floor.

WOW...Great Pictures everyone! I had the GREATEST time meeting everyone and these pictures only capture seconds of the fun and great conversations that we all had!

Girasol, girl I miss you and somehow I missed saying Good-bye, but I had TOO much fun dancing with you, Yvonne, Lys, Jessie and Phil. (We all took the hotdog route to go dancing earlier, while the rest of the group went to the rain forest :) )

Sorry that you guys are going to miss Girasol's picture, but I know everyone will vouch that she is a beautiful lady, inside and out!

I already told my boyfriend that we're going to Cali next year and he's comin'!! :p Thanks for all your hard work Bella & Jdswifey, I think if David was in charge there woulda been lotsa confusion because we woulda just done tequilla shots all day and night, heeeheeee (or what was that, a red headed sl%t? Thank you to all these crazy girls who were with me on this dance floor on friday night, yes Sherry, you are also one of these crazy girls !! Boy did we have fun !! This day was Joey and I's second year Anniversary, and you all really made this day special for me despite..... That's what makes us stronger than a DOC: we are a family, and they can't completely put us down, and you all really cheered me up. I think the Tequila shots were helpful too... :D

Phil, I am so very sorry you didn't get to see Joey, I really am. You know what's happened to Tony, well, he's now in segregation, that's their answer to him trying to end his life, so my planned 10 day of 4 hour visits are now down to 4 days of 1 hour and he will be behind glass and shackled. Both of us, and many others, feel this all happened because I was due for another visit. Tony just won't be allowed to be happy. So, although I do get to see him, I also understand just how you feel.

Thanks goodness for PTO as I'll be getting to see Shawna again and I'll be spending a couple of days in St. Louis with another member. And I will be visiting Tony again quite soon but next time I'll go unannounced, then they won't be able to do anything to stop us being together.

I started sneezing my head off in the Orlando airport early Monday morning and have just been getting progressively worse and worse... :(

Well, I finished my role of film yesterday and unloaded it and put it in my box of film to be developed. Well, being the efficient one who always marks her roles of film and promptly develops it! (that is funny, have 27 rolls to be developed yet!). It may be awhile before our photos show up on PTO, for I forgot to label several roles (10 to be exact :() including this one. So, hopefully soon you will see our photos.

Phil, I think I would have rather left the camera in Michelle's car, better chance of me developing the film promptly when it returned home.

It is SOOOO true, we had FUN! But also, we got a BUNCH of information that if it wasn't for the folder we recieved that the crew put together, the recall would have been much harder, with who said what and when.

How big will the Conference#3 be? I (as well as others) estimate that PTO will have a membership of 30,000 by February 2005. If so, and 1% comes, that would mean 300 at the next one. The least IMO would triple the attendance of 2003! It is feasible, at some point we will need the whole floor of a hotel!

If you feel PTO is like a family, you've just scratched the surface until you attend a Conference!

My husband and attened the conference but did not go to Pleasure Island. We went to a Luai at Sea world. The things B' Ray said about info. we recieved I am sure some will be posted in a form. We enjoyed meeting everyone. Fed-x your mom is great. Thanks Bella for all you did and all the rest who put in hours of work to make the conference great. The speakers were some of the most interesting people I had the honer of meeting. I love all of you and will still be praying for all of you and your love ones.
I do have to agree about the hot tub. I have put my order in for one folr X-Mas.

I have to agree- I LOVE Phil's posts and was looking forward to his visit with Joey more than seeing my own butthead ! (It's sad but true- but then, I DO get to see him every weekend!!) I'm sorry for Phil, sorry for Joey, and sorry for ME! So much for the vicarious thrill- and the description of the conference was so entertaining, can you imagine what the visit would have been like?

I received word from Shirley Dicks tonight where she called me a thief and a liar. She doesn't believe that I fell and have 3 compression fractures in my back, she thinks I plan to take all the money and run. I am sorry if this is information that you are all getting. Everything is going to Shirley tomorrow. I just wanted ya'll to know. I am not a thief, nor am I a liar. Shirley told me she was firing me from JDMC (a volunteer position) because I wasn't doing enough. Nice huh?

Picture 1: Wow, that couldn't be the right speed?? (Notice the ETA on arrival - that changed to 9:30 PM or so!! GPS systems are cool till they mess up the address and send you around town in circles!)

LMAO Is that like 100 miles a hour on that computer thingy in your car??? OMG... if it is your a speed demon.. My car would blow up if I went that fast.
Ok we work the Kilometres thing, and I have never seen anything that high tech here in Australia, so maybe Im wrong.

I just showed Corry, my car wouldnt even register going that fast, they dont make them like that in Australia, sorry I just had to repost that. Our top speed is 120 miles a hour, and thats red lining it, and I mean, IF i was to go that fast the whole damn thing would blow up. I want a US car, our roads suck.

lol.. Our roads are actually pretty good unless your in Louisiana.. Their interstate highway roadway was horrible..

The car is good (stock) to about 170 MPH but the co-pilot wouldn't be very happy with that.. ;) That is why you do that solo or with the boyz.. ;) The fastest we took it up to was 140-145 MPH when a Mustang Cobra tried to play with us and got dusted..

In the future with mods I want to be able to break 200 MPH.. I've gotten up to 190 MPH on a bike and about 187 in a Dodge Viper but never been across the 200 MPH threshold.. I'll make sure my will is intact before I do it.. :p

Ok, thats like 200miles a hour is 350kms... my car doesnt even register that, NO car here does.. that sux. Our highest speed limit here is 110kms which is like 60 miles a hour, so you can imagine it takes us forever to get interstate.

LMAO I am totally in shock, Im speechless, damn, I got a ticket for going 8 kilometres over the other day. Our cops, roads, cars, everything suck. Even our police cars dont go that fast LMAO.

It's easy to do it in here, Cathy. Use the "go advanced" under the quick reply box and that'll take you to a new page. There's a box under the reply box that says "Attach files" with a button "manage attachments". You should be able to figure it out from there... :)

I use LVIEWPro...you can download it through www.tucows.com and use it free for like 30 days I think it is.. It's really easy to resize the pictures using it.

Aw Phil, that is so sad. The FLDOC does realize the other people they effect. I think when you can come back don't let FLDOC know your exact date. Just get on the list and send them the paper work. Keep changing the visit date on them. I would pretend I was going to visit and set it up. Keep setting up false dates and confuse the beez-jeesus out of them. Then when your saved up they won't know if it is real to set up the write up for joey or not. eh! LOL

How come your film was not in your camera or shipped at the same time ?

Because I had to send it back overseas we figured the film could get ruined through customs using certain machines to scan things for security purposes. Also since Joey is here in Florida it was faster for me to develop the film and send it to him than send it to France and have Phil send it back here to Joey.
Phil, I have to go to the post office in the morning and will send it out then!!! I'm sorry Frenchy :(

A Conference is where as many as can afford to will meet at a given location. Staff members present what we have done during the last year and what the future plans for PTO are. Also, there are speakers from other organizations that take part in the programing of the Conference. The Conference last for 3 days. Before and after the meetings, it's FUN TIME :D

The 1st Conference (2003) was held in TX, the 2nd (2004) was in FL. The 3rd PTO Conference will be held in California, place/time not set yet (most likely in Feb 05).

I have no scanner, and for the moment I have no money to go to a photo shop and have them shoot on a CD, so I took them with my digital camera. For this reason some of them are blurry, and I'm sorry for this.
