Hey All,

I know the TN forums aren't that active or happening, but Kentucky isn't too far and neither is north Alabama. How many folks out there would be interested in a get together around Nashville? I would be more than happy to put one together. I am full of ideas and I have a few contacts where I could get us some deals on food and lodging. :) No specific date or anything yet, just trying to get a count of possibly interested folks.

Thanks much!! :)

I could handle that. However, I have to be back to work on Saturday afternoon. If I have enough of a notice though, I could put in for time off. I am in Kentucky and Nashville is a 2hr drive for me. Would love to come. Keep me posted.

Hey went to see my baby in Covington KY twice got the Hyatt Regency Cinncinatti for $40 a night
Then got Nasville Prime Time Suites for $40 and drove up from Atlanta 4 hours. Central Time made up an hour and make it to see him for 2 hr Saturday visits.
Look at this web page and areas you want to stay then bid at PRiceline to get room 4**** or 3**** hotels.

I am SOOOOO excited!! :)

A few bits of info. I have a back up hotel at the moment, but I am very much still looking. The worst case scenario would be a Residence Inn, two bedroom two bath, king sized beds in both rooms and a sofa. (They are suites, so there are little kitchenettes in the rooms as well.) These rooms will be around $115 a night and we can bunk up as thick or as sparsely as we want.

I don't have any little ones, so I don't have anyone to babysit and we are planning a "Suprise Party" and if you don't know what that is, feel free to PM me, ;) but you must be over 18 to attend. :) So, if bringing kiddies, you might wanna bring someone to be a sitter.

That is all I have to report at the moment, but we have plenty of time and I am neurotic, so more will come soon! :)

THANKS!!

MrsBenji

I HAVE UPDATES!!!!!

Okay, for the hotel. I did some hunting today and found a good deal. Homewood Suites is the place. We would have suites with a kitchenette, (full sized fridge, half stove, dishwater, etc) a living room, and a bedroom. There are two full sized beds in the bedroom and the sofa folds out into a full sized bed. That room is $99 a night. Three folks to a room, each person gets their own bed, and it's not too bad. A big breakfast is provided too.

They also have a conference room we can have for the day for $75. It is comfortable and has a wet bar. I thought we would take the room for Saturday and we can congregate there and have the Surprise Party there. :)

Here is the link for the hotel...Homewood Suites (http://homewoodsuites.hilton.com/en/hw/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=T5RCCTRI2BIOSCSGBIYMVCQKIYF CXUUC?ctyhocn=BNAHWHW)

Honestly, the hotel is really nice. The pool is part of an interior courtyard and the staff is super nice. I went to look through and inspect today at lunch. I looked at rooms and the conference room and everything else. I like the hotel and it's really good for the price, at least I think so, but you guys are the ones who are deciding here.

I also spoke to one my client's, a restarant called Jonathan's Grille, an American sports bar style place. They are gonna take good care of me and set me up with a good deal for us for a meal. Just gotta decide when.

I am in touch with my Suprise lady, but I need to work out some scheduling!

What sort of activities would Y'all like to do? Any ideas? SUggestions? MUST do things? :)

Let me know!!!!!!

GIMME SOME FEEDBACK! I GOTTA RESERVE ROOMS!!! :)

Alrighty now...Looks like we might just want to start coordinating! *sticking her nose in where it dont belong but does it anyway*
Do we get the conference room for the whole day??? If so, great!! So the chart shows that we can seat 32 in the Teal room banquet style. This should be fine. We can set up a small conference on Saturday afternoon sometime...say about 2 end by 4 (just gotta prepare an agenda) and then the party later on in the evening about 8...this will give everyone enough time to play in Nashville a little.
99 dollars is a fantastic price! ( I even think I might make a Michigan PTO Sign for two rooms since we have enough pepole for two - LOL) Oh how fun!!! Thats only 33 a night!!! OMG!
Will you be reserving the rooms and how much time do they need?? Deposit? Do we make our own reservations?? How about the cost of the room??? Will you just divide that between how many show?? if 20 show this will be 3.75 each...How about if your planning a dinner (Im sure this will be a set price, that you just add that to the price?)
Hey, Just trying to help since my big plans crashed!!!
Wow...I just LOVE G2Gs!!!
Let me know if you need anything.

MrsBenji
05-09-2005, 07:02 PM
THANKS ANGEL!!!! :)

Okay, more details. The rooms. I am going to reserve several now. (Six or seven for the moment.) What I am asking is for a deposit of $25 payable to the HOTEL (Homewood Suites Hotel-Nashville Airport). No need to scramble. I would like to have the deposits in by June 25th. (PM me for the address until further notice, please!) That gives everyone time and if you need more time or have questions, feel free to PM me.

The $75 is for the whole day and we could get it for Friday and Saturday ($75 each day), but I don't think we will need it for Friday. There is a lovely common area in the hotel where we can gather that night. (Tables and chairs and a fireplace.) The Teal room is the one I am interested in. I think it should be plenty big enough. It's easy to see from the entrance too.

The dinner. There are a few options he gave me. A flat cost per person (he threw $8 out) plus cost of booze. A booze tab. Free appetizers and desserts. A flat 15% off the top. Depending on who all wants to attend the dinner and all, I figured we would choose what would be best later on. My guess is that I might try to work out a flat cost per person including a drink or two or a dessert. How does that sound?

I am gathering up some info about what there is to do in Nashville and trying to see if I can gather up some deals on that stuff too, but that will take time.

Tell me what else you guys want and need!! :)

Jenn

MrsBenji
05-09-2005, 08:11 PM
Clarifications.

The deposit is $25 per person. When I receive it, I will send you a letter to confirm and a receipt. I will get back to you all tomorrow on whether check or money order or both are acceptable.

Thanks!

First of all, have you signed up to come gather with us in Nashville at the beginning of August?? The 5-7th to be exact!

If you haven't. Go do that now!! Click here!!! (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121611)

So, what would be fun to do? I am posting this survey to get a better idea about preferences for outings. This way I can see about getting us some group deals.

You can select as many things as you want, but try to pick your top two or three, please? :)

If there is anything you would like to, see, visit, or anywhere you want to eat, and it isn't listed, POST IT!! :)

THANKS!

PS. I anticipate that we will go out to the clubs/bars/etc downtown on Saturday night, so it is somewhat of a given, unless no one votes for it! ;)

Friday Night.
Check in and dinner and etc.
Surprise Party at 8pm. (There will be snacks and munchies and stuffs at this. And we can chip in for booze. ;))

Saturday.
PTO talkie-talkie with breakfast beginning around 8:30 and running for maybe (up to) two hours.
We will have the rest of the day from there to take in the sites and adventures in Nashville.
Around 7pm, meeting for dinner together.
Maybe a group goes to the Opry after dinner to take in a show and folks who want to head downtown for some nightlife head out later.

A bit more info. The Opryland Hotel is a big ole fancy hotel and has shops and a food court and stuffs to look at. The Hotel, the HUGE Opry Mills Mall, the showboats and the Opry are all located very closely together.

The Parthenon and the Zoo are close together.

Just FYI!

Whail....I didnt choose bars etc...I just thought that would be a given after anything we do. LOL....I think the nashtrash sounds just too funny...but a little steep. (I think everything is) so I picked that one too. I am a country lover so to visit the country music hall of fame would be cool...I guess Im game for what ever you all wanna do! Just call me flexable.

MrsBenji
05-12-2005, 08:47 PM
Oh, I guess I should have mentioned that Nashville does tend to take advantage of the tourists. Things that appeal to tourists are more expensive, unfortunately.

The Nashtrash is $27 a person and Opry tickets are $38 (I think!). But, as a perk, at long as we make it to the bars by midnight, we are fine because ladies get in free before then. There is another big dance club that I am gonna try to find out about. I process the payroll for him, so, well, I thought I might see if I can sweet talk him. :)

Another option that I have no idea if anyone would be interested in is a rock climbing place. It's one of the top in the south. Indoor. www.climbnashville.com It's nice and would run about $15 each.

I keep trying to brainstorm for ideas, so if some are lame, pay me no mind. ;)

Bars downtown. Johnny Jackson's Soul Satisfaction. It's a disco. :D Rowdy place and I think I can score a few free passes or drink or something there. :) There's BB King's. I am sure you guys can figure that one out. ;) We finally got a Coyote Ugly. I think everyone knows that one too. Buffalo Billards. Pool tables and booze. :) The Flying Saucer. It's a more laid back place. Sofas and pool tables. More varieties of beer and ale than I can count. Of course, Wild Horse Saloon for those who watch CMT. :) Most Wanted Live is taped there. Line dancing and country music. Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. Anyone who has done any history on the Ryman (where the Opry originally was) knows that Tootsie's is where the greats used to slip off and have a cold one. Live bands. Highly recommended. Bluebird Cafe. It's not quite downtown, but it's a songwriter hang out.

Oh! And there are tours of the Ryman available too.

Sheesh. I rarely go out, but I know plenty, don't I? ;) I could maybe get a part time job as a tour guide! ;)

Who wants to carpool? :)
I know we have a group coming from Michigan. Maybe we can round up enough folks so you guys rent a bus!! :D

I had not gotten a chance to sign in on this but Jenn had contacted me by PM about it and I'm planning to come, but I'm probably only going to be able to stay one night.

More than likely I will either have to come up Friday and leave Saturday evening after dinner, or come up Saturday and only spend the one night. Based on the proposed schedule tho I'm thinking I will probably come Friday afternoon and leave Saturday evening after dinner.

I'm coming from Memphis but will be on a really tight schedule so I don't know about carpooling but maybe, if anyone's interested. Depends on how tight/flexible your own schedule is really...

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I posted in the 'carpool thread' (please see if your coming threw Indiana, I'm off 65, would be more than happy to kick in for gas) but wanta to let you know I'm in. I"m only about 5.5 hours away from Nashville, (Indiana).. I don't drive but can fly or take a bus. I am going to check all that out when I get home from work tonight. This sounds like fun!!! I voted for fun things to do, but I didn't see The Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood there? Are they options? I had lunch there and if wasn't to bad if I remember right.. Woo Hoo.. Nashville Bound...

MrsBenji, as soon as I get my transportation set, I'll send my deposit if that's OK? Thanks

Well from the Michigan angle At this time, I'm looking into renting a mini van that holds 7 people. If more want to come I'll be glad to check into a larger vehicle, but quite frankly I'll be asking for deposits from everyone... I don't want to pay for a van and then have some folks back out and get stuck with a high bill and no riders.

Not being mean, just consider it an insurance policy. ;)

MrsBenji
05-16-2005, 05:17 PM
Smart move Mrs D. I don't blame you one bit.

Another option might be for a few folks to just follow y'all in the mini-van. Consider it a caravan. :) *This is rubber ducky... we got smokies.* :)

YAH!

I am planning, at this time, to get on I-65 in Montgomery,AL, and go to Nashville from there. However, if I get the job in north Florida, MapQuest says it's shorter for me to get on I-75 near Valdosta, GA, go north from there and go west when I get somewhere close to uhhmmmm, oh poo, I don't remember, but somewhere just over the state line of GA into TN (having a modified senior moment here). :p:rolleyes:
Anyway, I probably won't know for a few weeks which way I'll go, but tend to think that I'll come up I-65 since I've been that way to Nashville about a hunnert times in the last 20 years; I feel safer with what I'm familiar.
Looking forward to seeing you all....... :D:D:D:thumbsup:

Taffy,

You'd probably be coming through Chattanooga up from Georgia. Onto I-40, maybe? It's not a bad drive. And Chattanooga is a pretty area. :)

I don't care what route y'all take, just come on over! :)

I'm glad somebody in my life knows where I'm going :D..........actually, I do remember that MapQuest did say something about I-40, and if I do get that job in north Florida, Valdosta is actually closer than the other route and I would be on the interstate almost all of the way.....decision, decisions...
Are radar detectors still legal for cars....I should get one of those, if I can, because I got a speeding ticket when I was coming back home from south Florida after a job interview....ouch ouch ouch !!!!!! I still haven't gotten over living in Germany and being able to drive so very fast !!!!

YeeeeHaaaaa Nashville !!!!! :D:D:D Hold on...I'm coming !!!!!!

Sel

LOL Taffy! I hear ya about the tickets...I've had so many of those in the past 2 years...I done lost count. :p Half of mine (or over half) were "no seat belt" tickets...it's not hard to tell that I HATE wearing my seatbelt. LOL

If you come up I-65...let me know...like I told you before...you could meet me in Decatur (that's where I would get on the interstate) and you could ride with me the rest of the way or whatever. I *think* me and Mel (SwtMel) are gonna carpool too...but, I'm not sure yet.

Is it August yet??? :p

Hi Selena,
Thanks again for the offer; not sure yet which way I'll be coming but would like to not have to drive all the way by myself. It really depends on where the job search gets me settled.
Sorry, S, it's not August yet but there are only 11 weeks, and two days, until Nashville !!!!!!!! :yay::clap::rock::D:hifive:
Did you watch Academy of Country Music Awards ? I guess I have an eclectic taste in music:rolleyes:....I especially like the guy who sings Broken Road, and of course, Tim McGraw. Wonder if we'll get to see any of them..... Of course, they are all married and much too young for me...sighhhhhh.....:faint:
Anyway, will let you know something as soon as I know....

Some pics of the hotel.

I think they are all self explanitory. The outside, the common area and where they serve breakfast, (not our gathering room), the pool, and the entrance.

I was just wondering, is there an annual National PTO Conference? I'm just asking because I would love to participate in one if there is, and if not, I would love to help in setting one up. I served as Conference Coordinator for a national conference for a youth crime prevention organization last year, so I have experience. It was a 5-day Conference and there were 1,000 participants. I was thinking maybe PTO could organize something similar if there isn't one already. Like maybe a 2 or 3-day thing with various workshops on prison issues. Also, it would obviously be a great way for us to all meet each other. Can someone let me know if something like this exists already? And if not, is there any way we can start one? Let me know, thanks!

MrsBenji

Weeeellllll, there are annual get togethers that are *the* get together that do that. And the different regions have them as well.

Wanna come to Nashville this weekend? :) :) :)

The most recent one was in San Francisco a bit earlier this year. If you look through some of the earlier threads in this forum, you will see the info on it.

Does that answer your questions? If no, lemme know. I ramble. :)
