I have recently been made head of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition. Here is a little about the organization.

The Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition is a non profit organization, that works to ensure prisoners get medical care. We contact the wardens and governors to save the lives of those who are being tortured and killed. They are not sent to prison to die, but to pay society back for their crimes by loss of their freedom.
The Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition demands that all prisoners get the medical care they need, so nobody has to die by lack of medical treatment

The Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition does not condone criminal activity. However, we believe that inmates are sent to prison as punishment, not for punishment. The neglect of inmates' medical needs, particularly where this has the effect of causing or hastening death or disability, is a serious breach of government responsibility and of inmates' human rights. It is against national and international law. It is unethical, unprofessional and unacceptable.

Sick humans should not suffer without care. How many more will have to die, before we say: Enough is enough! We are living in a world we like to call civilized...Medical care for sick people - no matter what they did - is not a kind for luxury. It's only a basic humanity.

Access to medical attention is a fundamental human right, a right that belongs even to prisoners. Some say “who cares, they’re just a bunch of scumbags.” But these “scumbags” are the sons, daughters, parents, spouses, siblings and friends of someone you know.

We the loved ones of inmates are closest to knowing the problems of the medical problems they face inside the walls. But there are people out here that are trying to help if your loved one needs help getting the medical attention they need please feel free to contavt the organization. And if you would just like to know more about what we do or how you can help stop by and visit the National Site at www.jeffdicks.org

It has links to the state sites that we have so far and who to contact for your state or you can email me with your questions and I will get them to the proper person

Hello MommaHen: Never knew this existed. I went and checked out this sight. Thanks for this information. Yes, there is alot of inmates who needs medical care and don't recieve it. I'v seen it time and time again, they were turned away and said there was nothing wrong and then they ended up really sick or dead. Any of you out there have a love one who needs medical care check this out.

Dear MommaHen,

Thanks so much. I recently signed up with PTO, and Jeff Dicks through Yahoo, but seeing your note here helped so much, as I followed your link and emaied Shirley with the letter wrtitten by a female inmate about the death of her cell mate Gina, which I posted somewhere in PTO. I am just seaching for ways to get this out and maybe help a little. I've found some good stuff on the ACLU website where we can find out about Prison issues and see which of our elected officials voted for, or against, concerning these issues. I hope to soon send notes to each from my state when they show concern or the lack of.

Thanks again!
