i just got back from visiting my husband and he said that a friend of his in the prison just got a letter from his lawyer that said he talked to someone in DC that federal good time would be increased to 65% in July. Has anyone heard this? my husband is in terre haute prison camp and they say the new people coming in are told that there are 75,000 people waiting to come into prison and there is no where to put them. also april 2001 my husband got called into the office to sign a bunch of paper work PROGRESS REPORT and he signed a paper and they said it was a new program they were starting it has been over a year and we still do not know what the NEW PROGRAM is. they have also moved pre-release from 18mos. to 30mos. if anyone knows anything could you please let me know

I hope this is true.... this would be god sent...My husband just got sentenced in May 2003....
I haven't heard 65% ( I hope its true ;) Coming from our lawyer he says 85%....
I would like to get more info if anyone knows?

It would be great if this was true, but a lot of these rumors fly around. We can always hope. If it is true we should all find out soon. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Your right fabulous, and even if it is true that they are increasing good time, it is probably on for those sentenced after this. :(

Myhoney, I have to agree with Fabulous these rumors do tend to go around from time to time. Perhaps your husband could get his friend to give him alittle more information as to what the lawyer said. Whom did the lawyer hear it from? Heaven knows they're going to have to do something soon, we can't keep building prisons. I pray that they have the sense do something soon, for all of our sakes. Please let us know if your husband can learn anything more about this.

If they do it, my boy gets sentenced in july. Will that apply to him? His lawyer said he thought relief would come in the way of parole for non violent offenders. But another lawyer said he did not think they would do parole again, but add more programs in the system. If they do anything will it ever be retroactive? Whatever they do it will be quiet, but all the lawyers think they will have to do something in the next few years. I read something about adjustments to the USSG being retroactive one year after it passes? Any one else heard of that?

Myhoney..please let me know what you know about this 65% time thing....I hope this is true cause it would make things so much better.right now he has 13 yrs with the 85% man would it be nice to take that down to 65%.thank you

I haven't heard anything of this. If this was to be done just this next month....surely one of the advocate sites would have information on it I would think.
Don't get me wrong....I'd love for this to be true...but I have got myself caught up in this fantasy world to many times!
I am still waiting to see if there is another brave enough to bring back the parole bill.....so far its been no luck! I will look around for this...and ofcourse post if I find anything positive!
