View Full Version : They canceled my P.F.V.!
Caged_Ape 05-31-2003, 09:56 AM Hi There!
Just wanted to vent my frustration at a recently canceled visit. I was scheduled for a P.F.V. I arrived almost on time and was loged-in and X-rayed with no problem. Then the trouble started.
They brought out a pound-puppy to sniff me and my belongings. The dog sniffed and snorted and was qiute happy to leave me alone at that point. His handler brought him around again, and again, with the same result. I was watching the handler's hand signals continuously, as I am aware that dogs can be trained with various body signals as well as hands. The 4th time around I tried to watch again but was told to "LOOK FORWARD, PLEASE". Now the dog ends up sitting down beside me! Indicating contra-band! (Now my husband had an argument with his current P.O. just a week before.) Curious eh?
After waiting for a long time I was finally led away to a small interview room, where I was interrogated by 3 very large, intimidating looking, male prison staff. They said the dog indicated contra-band and that there were ISO concerns (meaning someone, who is probably affraid of my husband, he's 6'7", 300 lbs, and black, put a "kite" on him). My 52 year old husband does not "hang" with other inmates at all. He does his own time.
I was told of 3 options: arrest, strip-search, cancelation of visit. I'm almost 50 years old and a strip search by 3, fat, dirty old men, as not something I was going for! Specially if all they are going on is RUMOURS as I KNOW I do NOT have ANY contra-band on me! I would not do anything to jeapardize my husband's already precarious postion.
After this very stressfull interrogation, I was made to sit around again while they made their decision.
They finally came to me with a letter to sign, stating that I'm a "Threat to Security" and I must leave at once. Visit is canceled and we've been placed on "Closed" visits until further notice. GOOD-BYE!
It is always stressful enough going into the prison for a visit, but this was terrifying! These people (CSC), have you "by the balls", no-one is there to support the visitor in these cases, so if you do not know your legal rights, they'll just lead you along to suit their purpose, intimidate the hell out of you in the hope that you'll crack and confess to the rumours other inmates have put in their ears.
At this point I want a DIVORCE! Not from my husband, as I love him to death, but from CSC!
Thanks for listening to an old woman ...............
I'm sorry you had to go thru this. I was put into the same sort of position when my husband was in Virginia and when the guard patted me down she felt a sanitary pad I was wearing--they weren't allowed in Virginia--I consented to the strip search (which took place in front of my little boy by 2 female guards) and then had to sign a paper saying I was caught bringing in contraband or I would lose all visits. I signed the damn paper, but added that I had a tampax in and a pad on as it was my time of the month and that this was inhumane and I was not going to get blood all over.
This was one of the worst experiences of my life, but I wasn't going to lose visits and I thought how do I fight it later if I don't consent to the damn search right now? Later they could say there's no proof what she had.....

SCLady 05-31-2003, 10:44 AM Oh My Gosh Deb, that is just cruel. What other options do you have at that time of the month?
Sorry for the loss of your visits, hun, try to stay strong!
Shan & Kev 05-31-2003, 11:10 AM HI and welcome to PTO.
I have all the CSC Commisioner's Directives on my hard drive regarding what they can and cannot do. Let me know if you would like a copy of the ones pertaining to visitining and search procedures.
I have been through the EXACT same thing as you with the "kite" business and the crooked dog handler with his fancy hand signals.
They cannot restrict your visits without CAUSE. They can try and intimidate and threaten and harrass all they want, but unless they PROVE you are carrying drugs into the Institution, they lose.
Let me know if you wanna talk sometime about Corruptions Canada:pissed:

Thanks so much.

Hi wow I have been there! in case you didn't know, CSC CANNOT have a MAN STRIP SEARCH YOU. IT IS AGAINST PROTOCOL AND THEIR RULES. I know it goes on but a letter to the prison ombudsman and the warden and the names of the searchers will put a quick end to that. I did it and wow did they change their tune then. Women are who search me and I don't care if they cavity search me. I am going to see my man. Over 20 years of this nonsense hasn't stopped me and I won't stop now. LOL there you go. Another rant from an "old" woman. Hugs to you. Lina Shiningdrum

Damn I would have surrendered the tampax and the pad and insisted they document the surrender. Then I would have them scan a pad so I could put it on in their presence. Geez what is this? no visits during that time of the month. That HAS to be sexual discrimination. I understand reasonable cause and how such products can be used to bring in contraband but hell if they have you remove it in their presence (disgusting and hey they are the ones that have to handle it and get grossed out), and then put something clean and new on after it has been scanned and checked out (gloves on of course) I cannot see any reason for them to be able to deny you access. I would write a letter to the warden. I am ALL about self-advocacy. I used to think that Adam would get in crap if I did that but I am so damned polite and personable, they leave him alone. I have 2 letters of apology and one personal visit from a warden who wanted to assure me that what happened to me is not policy. After that, those prisons were a breeze. Squeeky wheel and all that I guess. I know it can backfire but so far that has not been the case. In fact, My honey's PO calls me to let me know if my guy is having a bad time so I can be extra supportive when he calls. I never saw anything like it before. LOL. I take what I can get. ..after over 20 years, you learn to. Lina Shiningdrum
ChandaMija 10-20-2004, 02:19 AM Were you on period on that particular day? :hmm: I try to make sense of everything, u know.
