My husband has one of his block mates, who is an artist, designing a logo for my company. I have agreed to pay the artist if I choose one of his designs to use as my company logo. I am unsure how much I should pay him. Any thoughts/ideas?

Well, I don't know, it depends. I tend to overpay EVERYONE but I would say $75 - $100, that will go a ways in prison.

Hey Nuro's Wife I guess it would depend on some factors, like the ideas, the work he actually does, after looking at it how much would u pay..And you're a business owner now so the best part would be the negotiation.. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help

I am in the process of getting my own business officially set up. I have been doing consulting work for people for years "on the side" but it is now time to take it to the next level. I am about to incorporate and design my website so I need a great logo so I can print my collateral materials.

What I gave him to work with was pretty much a clean slate. I gave him the company name. I told him that I wanted the logo to be universal so that it would apply to all of the consulting jobs that I do and not focus on one versus another.

Thanks! I was thinking somewhere along the same line.

My husband is also an artist so I can ask his opinion. Have you done your price comparisons with companies on the outside?

Thanks for getting your husband's input.

No I haven't looked at outside firms because I know that the one we use at work charged around $500 for our new logo design.

Just compare what companies would charge for a logo and come to some fair middle ground where he's not being ripped off and you're not being ripped off. It's apparent that you want to be fair to him.

negotiations may not be possible , if he is in a place where profitting isnt allowed .

In situations like those it would be customary for them to already have a friend or family member on the outside who receives the payment. negotiations may not be possible , if he is in a place where profitting isnt allowed .

Spoke with my husband this afternoon and he said the average rate for that type of work is $35 an hour.

Prices tend to be different depending on if you go with a design company, which is higher, or with a individual freelance, which tend to be lower (because they have fewer expenses). I charge anywhere from $100 to $200 for logo design depending on the complexity and other factors.
