Some of you may have noticed the little thumbnail like picture of me with "FED-X" at the bottom in some of my posts.
This is called an "Avatar".. (Why, I don't know??) I have it set so that all registered members here can have these if you want one. They are really very simple to make once you have done a few and there are quite a few different things you can create and use. They DO NOT have to be an actual picture of yourself! Actually, most people make animation like versions and put their names or Login ID's on them.
If any of you would like me to create you one of your own, I would be happy to do so at no cost... If you would like it to be a picture of yourself that is shrunken down similar to my own, please email me a photograph of you or whatever you want. Same with a animation or graphic you would like used.
In the next week or so I will also add an Avatar page with a bunch of generic avatars that you can add to your own profile if you would like.

Ask away if you have any questions or suggestions!

Hey Fed-X how long does it take to get the pictures to post, I know that you are very busy with everything so just get to me when you can. Thanks again for the great chat session last night with everyone. Dispite the storm kicking me off i had a blast and laughed a lot. It was cool to see you use the word "family" to describe PTO... because that is exactly the term that I have come to use (and JD is beginning to use in his letters too! Which by the way... I got a 14 page letter from him yesterday... and he told me to "tell the whole PTO fam hi and that I send them all my thoughts, prayers and love!" :)

when you wanna delete something, and you do 'edit/delete', then you have to check the box at the top of the page, otherwise it won't be deleted. Cool avatar!

Sweetpea there are tons of sites with animated gif's. You can click here (http://www.animationfactory.com/) to have a look at thru some. For a wack more, just go to www.yahoo.com or another search engine and type in "animated gif's". You'll get 100's of sites. Keep in mind that to use an avatar here it has to be no bigger than 64 X 64 pixels. If you find something you like bigger than that, you can go to this site (http://gifworks.com/) and resize it.

KelliKoz I dropped by that site and picked up the two angels with harps that I saw... I had to re-size them so they don't look quite as good...but I'll post them here for ya and you can use them if you want.

There are lots of sites you can get avatars from.
I woudl recommend doing a search at www.google.com for "avatars". If you are looking for a specific type of avatar, add it into the search tearm. Ex. Angel Avatar. That will yield a lot, I woudl bet...

I cannot figure out how to scan it...and now my damn computor is saying my office jet isn't hooked up---"unavailable"....whatever. So I got out the disc and reinstalled it. Still saying unavailable. I have to do a new port????? Forget it I guess. I have to get home. Zach gets off the bus in a few minutes. Just kidding while I went and found these instructions...

Just save it to your computer...right click on the little marley picture above and choose 'save picture as', when the 'save to' dialogue box appears, save it to your desk top, or somewhere easy you can find it again, My Documents.

Okay, with Bob saved...scroll up to the top of this page and you'll see User Control Panel at the top left...right click on that and choose 'open link in new window'...that way you'll be able to flop back and forth between windows so you can read this and go to where you need to insert the avatar.

When the next window opens, you'll see a list of links across the screen below the PTO Banner....choose the Edit Options link. This is the page where you can put up an avatar.

Scroll down that page, at the bottom right you will see an Avatar button....it'll say change avatar, or new avatar or custom avatar...not sure which, but there's only one button there so you can't miss it. Click that button and another page opens...this is where you can upload the little Bob picture you just saved to your computer. Click the custom avatar dot, and below that you will see a Browse button to upload a file from your computer. Click the browse, and point it to the wee Bob you saved on your computer....hit the submit modifications button and presto...you'll have an avatar!!

I saw your post in the PTO lounge where you tried to post the pic...it's either not in the right format, or you boob'd something up. It has to be a jpeg file, if it's a bmp it won't load onto the site. Just put your mouse on the picture you have scanned onto your computer, the one you want to upload...right click it with your mouse and hit Properties at the bottom of the menu. When the box pops up, take a look where it says file TYPE: If it says bmp, that's why it won't upload. If it says jpeg, then check the size on that same menu box...it has to be under 100kb. If you want to email it to me to re-size, send it here (toestubber@hotmail.com) and I'll re-size it and post it in the thread you left in the PTO lounge.

I could be wrong, but I don't think David spends too much time making Tinkerbells...how bout one of these...

If you wanna use one of these, you have to save it to your hard drive. Right click on one of the images and choose "save image/picture as..." from the menu. When the little save box pops up, use the wee arrow at the top to save point the image to the 'My Documents' folder on your computer...that way you'll know where it is when you go to upload it as an avatar.

When you've saved your image and you want to upload it as an avatar, go up to the top of this page and you'll see a link called 'User Control Panel'...right click that and choose 'open link in new window...' that way you can flop back and forth between your profile page and these instructions--if you need them. When the new page opens, you'll see some links just down from the top of the page, click the one that says 'Edit Options', then scroll to the bottom of that page. You'll see a button at the bottom that says Avatar...click that. A new page loads and that is where you can upload the file you saved. Select use custom avatar, and then use the browse button to find the image you saved in the 'My Documents' folder. Tag the submit modifications button and you are now Tinkerbell.

Holy crap Shades, you have more troubles than the Pope has naps. No avatar, no counter, no chat. Well let's work on one thing at a time. Um....

Avatar. You say you have a picture you'd like to use? Ok, you can email me the picture here. (toestubber@hotmail.com) I'll see if I can shrink it down small enough to use without wrecking it to the point you can't even tell what it is. It's got to be pretty small to use at the site cause there's a size limit. Once I get the picture and put it through the washer/dryer to shrink it, I'll email it back to you...save the pictures I email to your computer, okay? That way you, yes you, can upload them to the site as your avatar. We'll cross that bridge when it's built...but send me the pic and I'll do that first.

Counter. Um, boy... Ok, the counter is just a code that the site recognizes...it's computer speak. I can give you the code, but I need to know some information: What you want it to say....ie. Countdown to BLAH BLAH. And I need to know the date it's counting down to....ie. Dec 19th 3009. Okay? So lemme know those two things and I'll fix a code up for you, then you, yes you, can insert it in your profile. You can take a test run getting into your profile, you'll need to go there both to upload the Avatar and to insert the code. Ya Ya, I know you're thinking Toe, I'm dumber than a bag'o'hammers. And this might be the case....but believe me, you can do it. We're not building a 3 foot replica of the White House out of nosehair here...we're just following some links.

Soooo, to get to your profile....look up at the top of this page, over near the left hand side just underneath the PTO Banner, you'll see something that says "User Control Panel". Put your mouse on User Control Panel, right click and choose "Open Link or Location in New Window". That'll pop up a new window for you and you can flip back and forth between the two windows. Ok, got that? Up to the top, look at the PTO Banner, near the left hand side of your screen "User Control Panel"....go go, what are you waiting for? Right click it baby!!!!

Ok, now that you're back here...on that window you've opened, you'll see options just down from the PTO Banner. They go right across the page...VBHome, Edit Profile, Edit Options, Edit Password...etc etc etc. See those? Edit Profile and Edit Options are the ones we're gonna use. To install the code, you'll click on Edit Profile, and to upload the picture as your avatar, you'll click on Edit Options. It's that easy. You can do it. :)

Ok, I have to go edit myself a beverage now. Send me the pic and post your date and we'll get going on that.

Ok, here's the code you need. You have to go up and open your profile page okay? That's the instructions I gave you before, go up to the top of this page and right click on User Control Panel, choose 'open in new window'. On the page that opens, you need to click the Edit Profile link along the top. Easy right? Ok, once you're on your edit profile page, scroll down a bit and look for something that says Signature. There's a box on the right hand side? That's where this code has to go. You need to copy and paste it into that little box, then hit the submit modifications button on that page. Your counter will then be a working so good you won't believe it....hopefully. Okay, put your mouse at the start of this code below and drag it to the end of it, make sure you get it all just like it is. Once the code is highlighted, hit Ctrl + C at the same time to copy it....put your mouse in the Signature Box on the other page and then hit Ctrl + V. :) YEEEEHAAAAA!!!

Anyway quick help when you have the time...I uploaded the kermit avatars onto my pc, but now when I try to use them it tells me that they are not gif format? So I know I did something wrong. Any ideas?

You uploaded the kermit avtars and tried to use them and they don't work? lol, Um...not sure what you mean. Do you mean you uploaded them to the site to use as an avatar and they didn't work or did you mean you downloaded them onto your puter and they don't work? Upload is when you send a picture from your computer to the internet...download is when you save something from the internet onto your computer. Check what kind of file it is on your computer...find one of the kermits and right click it, choose properties from the menu....a box will pop up and it'll tell you File Type:________ If it says bmp, that's why it's not working....it should read gif.

lol...oops! okay so I pretended I knew what I was talking about. I went and DOWNLOADED an avatar from another site just to see if I could do it.....and I could!!! yay! I'm not a total loss! lol

I did a very quick search and found four of them for you. These should get you started. I am not sure how to do it on a pc, but if you have a mac, click and drag it to your desktop. click on the name of the file and make sure you rename it ending in .jpg. Then go to user control panel and click on edit options. at the bottom there is the avatar section. Upload the file from your computer. Good luck.

Rosepetal, sorry to answer a post you wrote to david, but you can type in avatars in a search engine and find a bunch of sites for free avatars. Also, if you have something specific, like the dragon fly, you can type it into yahoo and hit images and it will show you a bunch of images. Good luck. If you have anything specific and you dont mind me looking let me know and i will look for one for you. But, it is always better if you pick your own. They are kinda personal and whay I like might not be what you like.

Yeah, an avatar is a sort of pictorial stand-in for your real self. If you can find or make one that is no bigger than 64 x 64 pixels, then you can go put it in User Control Panel, Edit Options at the bottom where it says, Change Avatar.

a side pic? you mean the pic under your name? that is called an avatar, you can get what ever you want, good luck

Are you wanting to find one(?) and don't know where to look(?) ... go to any search and type in "gif" "," "animated" "," "what type/subject" (leave out the quote marks) you are looking for ... this will bring you, hopefully, to a page of sites to pick from, now the fun begins of looking through them all to find what yu want ... then right click "save pic as" ... go into your profile where you may add the "avatar" ... I hope this works!

I was wondering about the little sub headings under your user name...they say member, or new member or sometimes completely custom remarks...how does one gain access to that? And the pictures under the posts, are they added in the signature or as an attachment?????

Youhave to have made 100 posts plus be at PTO for 30 days I think it is before you can change the sub headings.
The posts underneath can be added as an attachment and you can only use an image once. It gives you a message if you try and use it twice. A signature can be attache if you upload your image to a webspace and then use html code to insert it.

An "Avatar" is a form or guise taken by a hindu god(dess) when on some type of mission. The form itself may have to do with the needs of the mission (such as a disguise or a form to impress friends or enemies).

David, when you have the time I would love an avatar. No rush, from the looks of things PTO keeps you fairly busy. Would it be possible to have one of the Mexican flag with a shamrock in the center instead of the bird? My hubbies Mexican and I'm Irish.... Thanks!

Richsgurl.. there are thread in this forum for avatars.. if you find one you want in the thread.. just click on it and let it open another window.. then right click on it and save it to your computer.. remember where you saved it.. then go to edit your options.. up at the top on the site it's under forum, then edit options.. on the left hand side there is a link that says change avatar.. click it and then you can go to browse and find the avatar you saved on your puter and upload it.. if you need more help pm me and I will help ya some more!!!

Meadow22 has a thread in the siggy forum, I think it's title is "sparkly names" or something with that effect! Meadow is awesome at those and she takes requests from that thread! ;)
