More then likly you will have to wait till he gets where he is going, If i am mistaking then, someone will correct me, but i think that is the way feds work.

Hi everyone!

I finally got to see him in FDC in Miami....Visiting is only for inmate family only...I got a call sunday morning from him telling me I got approved...I got up so fast and got ready went crazy to what to wear...It only took me an hour and 1/2 to get there....It felt so weird but it was great seeing him...we both cried :( it went well...
I was so happy.....

Today Im not doing so well...Im really sad and havent spoken to him but what keeps me going is that hes not far so im looking forward to our next visit...Not looking forward when he gets moved again...

My son Mariano spent 7 months in the FDC Miami before being sent to Coleman FL (some 45 miles NW of Orlando), a very good facility. The FDC is a tall building with no sport fields or open-air activities (he complained to be always breathing conditioned air) but it is pretty well organized. Food is acceptable, there are library, gym and social areas as well as a wide visitation room. Inmates are classified according to the level of their offense, housed in different floors and never mixed.

The main problem is the absence of jobs for inmates, so it is advisable to do anything possible in order to be transferred soon, and try to send him enough reading and studying material, or better, something for him to WORK on it, as long as it is not visibly a business or remunerated job. You should note that appeals may make the stay much longer. I know of one who spent 11 years in the FDC because of his continued appeals, but it was his choice.

Un abrazo,
Andrés (in Buenos Aires, planning another trip to Florida)

Andres,

Thanks so much for all the info....Yes the building is tall and no outside air...

I tried to send him books at FDC but was returned to me I was so upset...It said it has to be from the bookstore or publisher...

I just can't wait for him to get transferred, so he can get some fresh air and get a job so he can be busy and I get longer visits ;)

We still don't know when that day will be which is very annoying...

Any news on his transfer ? Regarding books: I've sent books to my son and he received them without a problem, but they have to be SOFT COVER (hard cover only from the publisher) and must be loosely conteined in an envelope, not tightly wrapped. Anything tight or solid is immediately rejected witn no explanation.

Try to visit him frequently not only for the obvious need to visit, but also for his record. I understand that more visits in that area makes him more eligible for a transfer near Miami. He could probably be sent to Coleman, it is a very good place.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Hi Andres!

No transfer yet. He's still in Miami FDC. We're still up in the air to where he's getting transferred. I wish he will find out something soon. I just hope he's close.

Regarding the books, I had Barnes and Nobles send them to him. He got the book he was all happy.

You might try the "Federal Inmate Locator" on WWW.BOP.gov (http://www.BOP.gov)
