Hello everyone...let me start off by saying thanks for stopping and reading this. I am looking for help to get to Oregon. I am in California. I met my finace soon to be husband through a pen pal web site and we love each other so much..but i spoke to his counclor (<~never could spell that right) and they said that he does not qualify to move to california for parole so here i am trying to get there. I need leads..i dont think i will have trouble getting a job its an apt that i am concerned with. I have 3 boys and i have no family and his family developed a out of sight out of mind attitude with him..so all we have is each other. If anyone can help in any way please respond...he is not to be released until next yr march 2004.

You can check with some of the online papers in Oregon and see what they have listed.

Here is a link to all the papers there. You can just go to what town you want to look in.

Hi...I sent you a private message re: Ontario! As far as the job/apt. search thing...I know Salem is a pretty good sized town...instead of an apt...maybe check on duplexs??? I would look up Salem's local paper & see if you can get on on-line classifieds, or try the Oregonian.
Good Luck :)

Well I want to move to where he (Scott) has to parole but i talked to him yesterday and he says for me not to move that he is going to get a transfer and do whatever he can to make it happen. So i guess i am staying here in California. But i have been working on a back up plan just in case he cant get the transfer. Your advice helped thanks you guys. Now i am asking about another type of help. Where can i stay in a good area for a good price. As i hope i mentioned Scott is in OSP, Salem last time i saw him was in March and going to see him in July hopefully...need to get caught up on these phone bills first. if not i cant see him until October. It cost me alot to go. I dont have a good enough car to take out of state. So i have to rent a car...it cost me 200 and change just to rent the car plus another 200 for a hotel for a few days and then gas...food...etc. i plan to leave here July 10th (my b-day) and return july 13. Its a 10 hr drive non stop so i wont get there until 5am then i want to go see him as much as i can all weekend before i come back. I am hopeing that i will get someone to watch the kids cause they wont last a 10 hr drive. If not i dont know what i will do. Any advice will help. Thanks...cant wait to hear from him today again i am so excited.

In Salem there are some apartments on Winter Street NE and some on Center Street that are old houses that have been made into apartments. The rents are reasonable and utilities and basic cable are included, so they're a good deal. They're not that far from OSP, which is on State Street at about 25th for a cross street. There's a bus service that goes by, too. The apartments aren't fancy and they're old, but they used to at least be affordable. It would be a start.

Usually here in Oregon, the person released has to spend at least their first six months back in the same area where they committed the crime they're convicted of, and I don't think the track record is very good of Oregon making exceptions to that. Besides, in transfers, the inmate has to foot the bill for the transportation and security for his transfer, and that's usually not affordable for the average person.

Dear Brnsweet,
I've lived in Oregon my whole life and just moved accross the river to Vancouver, WA. I do have some advice for you.
First of all, Oregon has the highest unemployment rate in the entire nation. Finding jobs is awful right now. Don't move unless you have a secure job lined up.
Secondly, the only town I'd suggest moving to is Portland. I've looked for jobs all over the state and it's pretty clear that Portland is the only town with any jobs left.
Thirdly, housing in the outskirts of Portland is the way to go. I've lived in this area for several years now and would be happy to discuss specific locations in a private chat.
If you don't mind me asking where is your boyfriend in prison? My dad is in Snake River in Oregon.
Best wishes,
