View Full Version : Okay Virginia, Lets plan a G2G for 2006!
marki1 11-08-2005, 05:36 PM Whats Up Virginia! I think it is safe to say that PTO has been a great source of insight, information and support. It is nice to speak with so many people from different parts of the country and the world who are going through the same things we are.
But wouldn't it be great to meet and rub elbows with people right here in Virginia! Wouldn't it be great to meet someone one who has a loved one in the same prison, or who has dealt with the same situations? Virgina has so many things going on pertaining to the department of corrections, and we can help get things moving...
So I would like to first suggest a Virginia PTO Get Together. I am looking for some people who would be interested in getting the ball rolling on a get together. I am looking for people who are serious about this, and who is willing to help. I am in the Hampton Roads area, but I have a home computer and free long distance.:D
Next, I think it would be cool if we could establish meetings where we could meet once a month, once every six months, whatever, so we can bond more, gather information, and network. I am now a college student, and networking is often times drilled in our heads. Networking can be an excellent tool...
Well, these are some suggestions, and I hope to hear from you all soon.
FriscoLady 11-09-2005, 04:39 PM Well Marki, you are off to a great start! I would love to have a get together! Won't be hard for us though I am in Ocean View.
Patti
marki1 11-09-2005, 06:17 PM Hey FriscoLady: I am happy to meet you! Well, you aren't that far from me. I am in the Wards Corner Area. I hope that we could get some people to get interested and get involved! I think it would be nice. Plus, I really need to involve myself with different things. I am graduatiing from ODU next year, and I don't know what I will do when all I have to do is go to work and come home.:D
Anyway, it is nice meeting you. Do you have any ideas for a G2G? I was thinking that it would be fun to do like the Spirit of Norfolk or something like that. But we would need a lot of people, and a lot of participation. UNtil then, it will be really nice to just meet people....
vics woman 11-09-2005, 06:59 PM i too think a virginia get together would be nice i too live around the corner to both of you ladies. i think a first time get together should be knnda small. and held in a public place . something like a picnic at one of the city parks ect. or even like a meeting at like the mall ,starbucks ect.. a dinner date so too speak. but gues that would depend on the size of group.i am disabled and farily new to the hampton roads area.so kinda of limited in getting around
marki1 11-09-2005, 07:57 PM Hey! I think StartBucks would be an excellent idea. I use to have group meetings at the one in Ghent. That would be great!... But I also want others from other parts of Vrginia to get involved. But for it would be a great idea to do something at a Starbucks.
I was wondering just how many people in the Hampton Roads area were on here. My husband is at Augusta Correctional Center, and there is a van that leaves from here. So I know there are people in this area but I wonder if any are on here... But I love the Start Bucks
marki1 11-10-2005, 03:48 PM Hello Ladies. I just wanted to say hi to all. It has been a pleasure to meet the both of you. Have you two met?
Well, I think that meeting in public places like the mall, Star Bucks, etc., would be a very good idea. Especially until we can build up participation. Again, I would love any and all input.
Again, it was great meeting you guys...
Marki
FriscoLady 11-10-2005, 11:35 PM No, we have just met as well.
It is a pleasure meeting both of you as well.
Star Bucks is fine in either Norfolk or Virginia Beach since we live about 2 miles from the city lines. Or any place convenient to you both in either city.
Patti
vics woman 11-11-2005, 12:18 PM no marki we have not met each other yet. but have been discussing a get to gether lunch date and place. i will be in contact to you by pm regarding this. are we the only three so far in virginia to have interest inhaving a get together.surely ther are other ladies in virginia even if not right here in the area us three live in.
SAMMYSWIFEY 11-11-2005, 01:29 PM Hello Everyone!!! Its Nice To Meet All Of You. I Would Be Interested In A Get Together Too But Im In The Northern Virginia. So If Ya'll Plan Anything Please Let Me Know!!!! Take Care Everyone!!!!

reddawgsluv 11-12-2005, 07:43 AM I too live in Virginia, but no where near you all. I am an hour west of Roanoke, up near bluefield. A meeting would be coo, if I could arrange it. My husband is not incarcerated in Virginia, but in OHio. I am nes to the Virginia area, only liveing here since March of 2005. Take care everyone
QQin4meboo 11-12-2005, 08:43 AM I am in the woodbrigde va area . but have car will travel !! lol
vics woman 11-12-2005, 10:23 AM isgreat to see more ladies being interested. in meeting. im not sure how far of a drive it would be for everyone to meet her in the hampton roads area. as marki said the three of us that live right her are working on a small lunch type meeting.both marki and frisco lady have agreed to have meeting in virginia beach whivh is best for me since my disablity does not allow me to drive so i am basically dependent on the public bus system her in vb to get around that and that i too havent been living in the area very long.i know how to get around vb fairly well but know nothing about how to get around any of the other hampton roads area cities.even if its only the three of us we can talk more about planning a bigger meeting later on.also the place we have talkedabout meeting can accomadate a larger party than three it is a local resteraunt.
FriscoLady 11-13-2005, 02:46 PM vics mom - The date you pmed to would be great! I have Drs. appointments over in Chesapeake almost every Saturday though, so we may have to work around that time.
Have you gotten with Marki?
Patti
marki1 11-13-2005, 09:44 PM Hello Ladies!
I am so happy to see all of the ladies coming in to join us... Please, add your input...
Hey Frisco and Vic I think the day is good. I think Saturdays would be a better day period. I usually work, but I can try and work somethings out.
How have you guys been? I do the work and school so I have been tired. Other than that, I am okay.
Ladies: We would like to plan a G2G for next year. If you have any ideas, please, let us know!
vics woman 11-14-2005, 10:56 AM marki seenms i have been having trouble with my siggy/counter being messed up and was unable to post yesterday but seems i can post today.please if anyone can help me fix my siggy/counter i have no ideal what to do to fix it.marki i think frisco needed to check on that sat date. but for me any sat is good im free all the time except on tuesdays.time around 12,1 pm are good also . when you and frisco get a date thats convenate for both of you just post it.that way if any of the others can make it they will know where and when.as for next year i think that sprit of norfolk ideal would be great. at our lunch we can talk more details about it for all i know about is its like a cruise yachtthat tours around this area. for a day cruise.
Mongo's Mama 11-15-2005, 11:32 AM I live about 1/2 way between Roanoke and Bristol!
vics woman 11-15-2005, 02:03 PM great going on the weight lose.you are a good ways from the beach so a lunch probaly would not be worth the drive but hopefully by next year we will have something worked out so it would be worth while to make the trip.
vics woman 11-17-2005, 11:07 AM good marki seems we are agreed for it to be on a sa.tthe 3 or the 10 are good for me how about frisco and yourself??
FriscoLady 11-17-2005, 03:13 PM 3rd or the 10th works for me. We will know on Saturday what time my appointments for the 3rd will be. So will get back to you on good time Saturday night.
I hope this is the beginning of a more active Virginia group, and I cannot wait to meet the other Virginia members!
Patti
vics woman 11-18-2005, 11:28 AM o.k.frisco all we need now is a time and marki confirmation of date and time then i would say its a done deal. cant wait to meet you two.and yes hopefully after our small meeting something can be set up for a bigger yearly meeting with all the other virginia ladies.:D
FriscoLady 11-19-2005, 09:44 PM Well, it looks like we are completely open on the 3rd - no appointments at all. So, you call it and we will be there!

Patti
vics woman 11-23-2005, 11:40 AM frisco just heard from marki 3 pm is better for her. and that is doable for me also. so plan is atlas grill in vb on sat dec3 at 3 pm.and freedom seeker is welcome. with the time at 3 i will most likely have my mother pick me up. or would there be any problem if she had lunch with us.just a yes or no to both questions will be good. this is really going to be fun actually meetingothers from this group.:D

vics woman 12-04-2005, 04:55 PM really was nice lunch friso and myself had yesterday.good conversation no akward moments.how ever we missed marki and freedom seeker. perhaps next time all of us hampton roads ladies can make it.the three of us that met decided it would be a good thing to have a hampton roads area mini get 2 gether once a month.so far is 3 votes for it. marki1,freedom,ms townsend.let us know youre thoughts about it.also trying to get something state wide next summer.
FriscoLady 12-04-2005, 05:29 PM Linda and I had a good time, with good company and we hope to get together with Marki and Seeker and as many as we can in the future.
If we can get a G2G for the summer and if it is in Hampton Roads or close, Linda and I would be glad to put some people up at the house.
Patti
vics woman 12-05-2005, 11:02 AM yes we must have many more mini g2g. perhaps the members out of hampton roads area could offer some suggestions of place a state wide g2g could be held.linda and pattie and myself disscussed a place here in hampton roads area. that would be a great place.perhaps our next mini g2g we will have the ladies that missed the lunch.input also:)

Earls Mom 12-08-2005, 06:08 PM Hi, I'm new here, I have a 21 year old son that has been locked up since he was 19, He has 12 years left. Earl was just transferred to Keen Mountain. Does anyone know anything about the place. Other then its a level four prison that sits ontop of a mountain. I've experienced anything like this before. It is a horrible feeling not being able to do anything to protect your children. I feel helpless and alone. I don't know how I will get through this or help my other two children get through this. It's been a daily strugle. My son and I write each other almost daily, getting letters and poems from him have become the highlights of my days. I haven't heard from him in over two weeks since his transfer. I heard two men were murdered there last week and the prison is on lock down. I know that Earl was not one of the men killed because he was able to call his father before the lock down. Anyway I'm looking forward to meeting freinds here and talking to other parents that are going or gone through the same thing.
Thanks
Earls Mom
waitingmom 12-11-2005, 03:54 PM Hi Earls Mom, Its nice to meet you. My son is also in Prison in Virginia so I know what your dealing with. I live very close to Red Onion & Wallens Ridge & one other federal prison. Ive heard of Keen Mt. & a couple of guys that were with my son got transferred there to work. From all I've heard its not a bad place, but then none of them are great. My son only has 5 months left, maybe less, he gets his update in Feb. so I hope its sooner. Its great finding this web site. Ive really enjoyed everybodys comments. Its good to know your not alone. My son was a level 3 at Lawrenceville until his recent transfer, & he liked the level 3 better. Hope all works out well with your son.
vics woman 12-31-2005, 12:18 PM hey hampton roads ladies. lets have another g2g. like a lunch /dinner thing again since we had a couple that could not make the last one.also we never got around to planning a stat e wide on later in the year.so far through pms markii and i along with frisco. have come up with meeting at the china garden buffet located in the pembroke mall in virgini beach. on sat . january 7 around 3 pm. ifthis does not work for any of you hampton roads ladies just post it or pm me other wise will see you on the 7.:)

Daveswife 01-02-2006, 04:33 PM Hey everyone. I would love to meet ya, but I'm quite a ways away from virginia beach. I live in Martinsburg, WV. My husband David was in Fairfax, but was just transferred to Deep Meadow in State Farm, VA.
I'm about half hour from Winchester, maybe we can find a central location for everyone. Just let me know.
MyBrosKeeper 01-02-2006, 06:38 PM Hi, there, VA Ladies:
How was your first g2g? I wanted to post so jumped from page 2 to page 4 and it seems as though you did meet! WOW! CONGRATS!
Unfortunately, I live in Alexandria, VA about 5 minutes from DC and work about 13 hours a day. My brother is in OCI in Florida and is supposed to be released 9/06, not sure of the exact date due to more gain time coming his way.
I hope you all are able to get together down there again! I wish I had some FL gals here in VA to meet nearby.:(
God bless,
Mary
All For Carl 01-03-2006, 11:10 AM Good Afternoon Ladies,
My name is Susan and I am new this, so please bear with me. I have a friend/finance that is in Sussex II. I am also interested in meeting you all, so I can finally have someone to relate too and someone who understands my situation. Does anyone have a spouse in Sussex II? I live in Maryland and I know of no one here in Maryland who has a spouse in prison in Virginia. I don't mind traveling to meet with you ladies.
Daveswife 01-03-2006, 04:32 PM I just moved from MD. Where are you? My hubby has never been to Sussex, but I'm sure there are others from MD. The easiest thing to do is look around the parking lot when you visit. Maybe leave a short note on anyones car that has MD tags. I would try to be inconspicuious so you don't get in trouble. I'm sure you'll get some replies here as well.
Good luck and keep your chin up!
kari05 01-03-2006, 09:51 PM Hi Ladies!

vics woman 01-03-2006, 10:48 PM seeing all you ladies wanting to meet.is great. we are hoping to get like a state wide g2g this will be talked about at our meeting/ tomorrow. at least we plan on bouncing some ideals off each other. shooting for a summer one. and one central to all.and if any of you have any ideals just throw em on to the board or a pm.should know more after tomorrow.;)
vics woman 01-05-2006, 11:34 AM opps i meant sat not tomorrow.in case i confused anyone.see you all then.
kari05 01-05-2006, 07:41 PM If you plan another GTG in the next month or so please let me know and i would love to meet some of you and even help those commute to seeing theirloved ones

Kari
vics woman 01-08-2006, 05:00 PM markie missed you yestrday at our g2g. what we would like to do is have a hampton roads chapter g2g like on the second saturday at 3pm every month.not limited to hamptonn roads members but to any one that wants to make the drive.we are still working on a larger state wide g2g forsummer 06.i will be posting some ideals on the board in the next few days.how ever all are located in virginia beach.since it is area i know what is avaliable.also open to hearing about any other locations in the state of virginia
my thoughts of good place for g2g.
1. sandbridge park. is on beach, has fishing pier, coveredpavillion with picnic tables, charco grills. public restrooms, consession buliding serves food such as hamburgers hotdogs. a smalll playground with swings ect for the little ones to play. has a small grocery store and a resturant close by.no motels would have to get that in the city of virginia beach about5 to 10miles from vb to sandbridge beach.of course we would reserve the pavillion for all day. that is my first ideal. more later
vics woman 01-09-2006, 01:41 PM my second ideal is a city park called mt trashmore. it hs covered pavillion with picnic tables. public restrooms. a playground for the kids. a small lake which has a walkingtrack around it.with lots of ducks/geese andseagulls wanting food. this parkis inside virginia beach city limits so motels access is better.there is also a few fast food places close by.and the .
vics woman 01-09-2006, 01:57 PM my third ideal is als a city park inside the city limits of virginia beach. this one is caled red wing park. no pavillion but a few scattered picnic tables and grills. several gardens divided into themes. such as the meditation garden the rose garden. has a hiking trail.some baseball diamonds. is right next to the koa camp grounds.close to motels and fast food places. resturants.
well these are just my ideals. im thinking upon the lines of picnics where every one brings a dish or their own ice chest of food.spend the day in the sun.meeting new people. could possibly even do both weekend days. depending on cost of reserving pavillions ect.i am trying to keep it inexpensive since most of you are like me living off one income until our men get home.and make it worth the drive for you travlers.so members just throw any ideals on board something you think would be good in youtr area.after more ideals get posted then we could take a vote.later in the year.:)
vics woman 01-21-2006, 11:05 AM surely some of you virginia ladies have an ideal for a state wide get to gether. or is it that no one is interested in having one. come on people lets hear some ideals from other parts of the state:idea:
carlsgal 01-21-2006, 10:37 PM I just made it to this forum, don't really have any ideas right at the moment; But I'm certainly gonna keep my eye on this one..I'm in South Western Va.basically right in the middle of VA/KY/TN/NC...within 3 hrs.or less of any of the above..So I'll be interested & looking forward to hopefully meeting some of you..:)
vics woman 01-23-2006, 06:15 PM glad you found us gal.:D
Daveswife 01-23-2006, 06:23 PM If it's going to be state wide it really needs to be in the central part of VA somewhere. I live in WV and State Farm, VA is about 3 1/2 hrs from me. I don't really know the state that well though. Anyone in a central location?
dwfighterva 01-23-2006, 11:19 PM Central is Richmond. Maybe a tab bit west of there. (trust me, there is nothing west of Richmond. Very rural) Maybe something along 64? Just off of it?
marki1 01-24-2006, 10:11 AM Hi all!
Okay, for anyone that tried to call me and the phone was disconnected, it is back on. I was having an "Issue" with sprint, but we are up and running again.
The smester has me swamped, but I actually have an off day on Friday. Will ANYONE like to join me for a Friday lunch or dinner at the Chinese Buffet on Wards Corner? If so, let me know. I am going to meet a mentee that day, and hopefully we'll meet there. Please let me know...
I also think that Mt. Trashmore would be a really good idea. We could do it picnic style, and maybe plan for another event for those that may be coming from out of town. I know that money is an issue, but there is also the "Spirit of Norfolk" that does luch and dinner cruises. If we get enough people to participate, we may even be able to do it at a discounted price. Same for hotels...
vics woman 01-24-2006, 05:40 PM yes everyone i agree finding a place more in the middle of the state.would be good but i only know virginia beach area.reason i asked for others input.if anyone in the richmond area knows of like a city park there that would be good for like the picnic type get 2 gather.first i think we need a count on how many might attend.the lunch cruise thing marki suggest would also be good.markie perhaps you could give a price even if its just a estimate.as for having lunch friday at wards corner. i will not be able to make that one im starting a job tomorrow and friday will be a work day.however i will know more about that after tomorrow.if it looks like i can i will let you know.:)
Daveswife 01-24-2006, 06:04 PM They lunch cruise sounds fun. Usually you can get a discount for 15-20 person groups. I'm sure we can get that many if we plan ahead far enough. A park is great too. I'm sure one of the towns off 64 has to have something. I'll keep my eyes open Sat. when I go to see David. That's the way I get to 522.
vics woman 01-25-2006, 09:49 AM just doing some internet searching last night. i found several parks in richmond.one caled james river park sounds good says it offers fishing, swimming, rock climbing, baseball, basket ball, tot lot playground.i do not remember if bathrooms or pavillions picnic shelters are there however seeing that park is like five hundren something acres with the river running through it,. it should offer picnic tables and bathrooms and if it does not there were several more parks.marki what time were you looking to do a lunch on friday. pm me it seems i will not be starting job until 2/4.i will see if i can work out something about transportation to get there.:)
Daveswife 01-27-2006, 12:22 AM Well, let's see what we can arrange for spring when it warms up a bit. I'm in!
vics woman 01-27-2006, 04:02 PM yes cindy we were planning on doing the state wide in the spring or summer when weather is warm.we are just taking in ideals right now.and getting a count on how many are interested in coming. to g2g.
Daveswife 01-28-2006, 07:12 PM Ok, I went for a visit today and I watched the signs on 64. I remember Shenandoah State Park and I think I saw another one, but I can't remember it. So here are the Parks in the Shenandoah and Central Regions. Central is VERY big though so...I think keeping it around 64 somewhere is pretty central to everyone except maybe the eastern shore people.

Lets all get our maps out and our thinking caps on.
vics woman 01-30-2006, 01:22 PM cindy thanks for the links. i m sure if the picnic ideal is agreed upon i see no reason any of these central parks could not be used.i will spend time looking through them later tonight .and hopefully others will do also.and the ones that interest members the most can be posted.then voted on closer to the date ofg2g.

I recently brought up the Spirit of Norfolk as an idea for our G2G: There is a lot of information and I will just give you guys a link so that you can take a look. Let me know if you guys would be genuinely interested. If you are, then I can make contact with the peolple maybe with the help of someone else. And for the people that live far away, maybe we can make some hotel arrangements. Just an idea!

Daveswife 02-07-2006, 06:11 PM I think Bear Creek Lake State Park is going to be the most central spot we can find park-wise. They seem to have a ton of stuff. He's the website.
http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/parks/bearcreek.htm
We need to get on the ball though and figure out how many people will be coming. If we choose this park we have to reserve the picnic pavillions. There are also nominal fees for swimming, but that isn't open until Memorial Day.
Anyway all of the info is here. Look through it and let's get this thing together so we can get reservations and prices etc for whatever we decide.
Here is a detailed map of the central region also. You can get an idea of where the parks are.
I'm not sure who thought of this first, but I'll help if you need me to.
carlsgal 02-07-2006, 07:38 PM daveswife...I'm in S.W. VA that's about 4or 5 hrs. from Richmond... which works fine...just let me know if there's anything I can to help.Looking forward to this g2g!!:)

vics woman 02-08-2006, 11:02 AM as far as the park pic-nic. being used for a state wide g2g. this bear lake park sounds good to me.and yes we do need to get on the ball and find out just how many will be attending.cost of reservations. date held. everyone it was marki1 that first came up with the ideal of a state wided.g2g.i was the one that suggested a pic-nic setting. so i think it is safe to sayour g2g will be held at this bearcreek park.that most every one agrees with the pic-nic ideal.and with bear creek being the most centrel park.that is the fairest place to have a state wide g2g.i will be pm some of you for assistance to get this show on the road.i am thinking it should be held on a sat.early in june.more tomorrow. i want to make a few calls now about cost of reservations and such.:D
vics woman 02-08-2006, 12:03 PM this is what i found so far.the cost of a pic-nic shelter for the small which holds 40 how ever there are several pic-nic tables around the shelter just not under.is a lg group grill for cooking.cost of shelter for one ful day8 am to dark is50.00$.the concessuin is right thre as well as the swimming area and conoe rentals. in addition theree is a parking fee per each car.3$ per day.also a swimming fee of3$-adult, 2$-child.age 3 to 12.
the next step is to see how many are coming.so we know how to devide up the shelter fee.or if we should look for the large shelter.the best way to do this i think is first set a date.which i will do right now.sat JUNE10 O6.IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING. PLEASE POST YOUR ID SO I CAN GET A COUNT OF HOW MANY IS COMING.PLEASE DO THIS BY THE LAST DAY OFTHIS MONTH.I WILL GO FIRST.
1. VICS WOMAN
if any of you live close to this park please pm me. :)

Daveswife 02-08-2006, 12:55 PM 3. Cindy ~ Daveswife & One adult, one 8 yrs old
kari05 02-08-2006, 02:54 PM kari and possibly 2 children ages 14 and 10 :D
Daveswife 02-08-2006, 07:25 PM Please don't forget to list the # of people that would be coming with you. Even if you think they MIGHT come it will give a more accurate count.
barb-k 02-09-2006, 02:26 AM I am going to say that I may be able to come. I wont know until closer to the date. I maybe on call that weekend or have to work. So a maybe for me and maybe 1 or 3 others. Sorry to be so unsure.
marki1 02-09-2006, 10:36 AM Okay, that sounds great to me. Well, put me down for 2. Myself and my 10 year old son.
Vicswoman, do you still have my phone number? I think you may have called me once before?
Oh, for those that was interested in the Virginia Cure, the web address is: www.vacure.org (http://www.vacure.org). That is off the top of my head. So if you can't find it, the address maybe wrong. Please just let me know!
vics woman 02-09-2006, 11:53 AM hey everyone. i really just need a count of the members.since they will be the ones paying for event. i will not charge the children or any extra adults that attend with you.i checked back with the park. there is no large pic-nic shelter.so its the 50$ one regardless of how many come. the park person suggested for some oneto get there early and place like a tablecloth on the tables around the shelter.then we would have those tables to use also.so would be great if any of you lived close by the park to be able to lay claim to those tables.if not i will see what i can do about arriving early and claiming the tables.now that consseion stand does sell sandwiches, snacks, drinks.for those that do not want to bring their own food to grill.each member will be responsible for paying their parking and swimming fees.i am not including those in with the fee to reserve space and miscellaneous cost.
such as some cheap plastic tableclothes,char-cole,name tags pasterboard for banner.letssay40$ on that. which would bring total costto90$.so if we have ninety members it will be a dollar a piece to attend at the end of this month after everyone has signed up.and we have a count of how many members i will divide the cost at that time.:)
vics woman 02-09-2006, 11:59 AM marli1 if the phone number is the same. yes i do have it. i want to look through this cure site real good before making a descion about becoming involved back with you later on that.::cool:
Daveswife 02-09-2006, 01:10 PM Thanks vics...great info and even if only 20 ppl were to show it would be a small split. Let me know if you need anything.
kari05 02-10-2006, 09:18 AM That place is awesome. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help get it together. I know im far from VA but I can help in anyway I can. So is the date June 10th???? I need to mark my days off from work.
Also im going to be in VA this weekend, IM flying since the weather isnt looking good tomorrow and dont feel like driving 10 hours one way which with the snow and VA drivers it will take me 20 hours to get home LOL
Love ya all
Kari
vics woman 02-10-2006, 10:22 AM hey everyone.just wantto say that g2g will be on june 10 which is a saturday. starts at 8:30am lasting until dark. at bear creeck lake state park.
i will do my best to get there at eight thirty and clame the tables.closetto the shelter.everyone just hold the thought that the weather will be nice that day.looking forward to meeting all of you::D
Daveswife 02-10-2006, 10:50 AM I know they sell food, but I had an idea. What if everyone brings their own "main" dish for themselves and their guests and we all bring one side dish or desert for everyone to share? I can coordinate that list if you want me to and if everyone thinks it's feasible.
vics woman 02-11-2006, 10:52 AM cindy. that is great ideal. i guess i was not clear enough on that part of ppic-nic.we will have the grill to do like burgers hotdogs chicken steak what ever anyone wants to grill.each member can bring their own food to grill.also if members can bring a side dish and/or dessert to be shared by group would be great.the town of cumberland is like 7 miles from park. so if anyone wanted to do like a box of kfc as there main course . in addition members can purchase a side dish in town.also small grocery at park entrence. as example i plan to bring makings for hamburgers as my main courese to be grilled. bake beans as side dish and cup cakes for desert.and a ice chest with drinks.
cindy you can be in charge with the food list.so folks let cindy-daves wife know what foods you will be bringing.thanks so much cindy for bringing this subject up and on offer to keep list.each member is responsible for their own eats for their group.as far as main course and drinks.if everyone brings a sidedish and/ordessert to share with all. we should have plenty to eat and have a great picnic.
Daveswife 02-11-2006, 11:01 AM Ok, you got it! I will go first I guess. Well actually second since vics already said what she's bringing. Are you sure you want to bring both? I think either/or will be plenty depending on how many people sign up. I can bring more if it ends up being a small group though. I have a cooler so I'll make the salad at home and pack it on ice. Please PM me with your dish and I'll update as we go so we don't have 16 of the same thing.LOL. Oh and thanks for the store info. VERY HELPFUL!
Vics ~ Baked beans & cupcakes
Daveswife ~ Mac. salad
Mongo's Mama 02-11-2006, 11:35 AM I live in SW Va too, it looks like it's about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from here. I would like to come for the get together but will have to let you know for sure closer to the date (sorry) I have to make sure I can get off work that weekend.
Daveswife 02-11-2006, 11:53 AM Ok, I understand. I hope you can. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
kari05 02-11-2006, 03:35 PM I know they sell food, but I had an idea. What if everyone brings their own "main" dish for themselves and their guests and we all bring one side dish or desert for everyone to share? I can coordinate that list if you want me to and if everyone thinks it's feasible.
Sounds good to me.......Count me in and let me know if I can bring anything else. This is gonna be so much Fun.....Im gonna get a Hotel room cuz lord knows Ill need it....LOL
Daveswife 02-11-2006, 04:44 PM Just a side dish or desert Kari. Just PM me with what you're gonna bring and I'll get it added to the list. I can't wait either!! I was thinking of getting a room too. I have a visit the next day, so it kinda makes sense.
vics woman 02-12-2006, 03:12 PM its ok if some are not sure and have to wait until closer to the event.i can go ahead and put you on the list and ?beside youre name.talking with my mother i might be getting a room also.due to my disablity i can not drive. so in order to get at park early enough to claime xtra tables put up banner ect..just not sure of that yet.i may just impose on you that are getting rooms to claim tables and set up banner ect.will decide that closer to the event.:)
Daveswife 02-12-2006, 04:32 PM Okie doke. We have time for the fine details.
Alright everyone I have some ideas. First I would like to make a VA PTO Phone Book for each of us to have. That means anyone dealing with the VA system, not just those that live there. If you are interested please PM me you name, addy, phone and email. I will put it all together and email it to everyone or send by mail if you prefer.
Also, I would like to do a recipie exchange at the G2G. You know how someone always wants a rec. or they are allergic to some foods and have to be careful of ingredients. Well, I'll print up a bunch of copies of the rec's for what you are bringing and set them next to the dish. Anyone that wants one can grab it and we all know what's in the dishes. When you PM me with your dish or desert just let me know the recipie (even if its from a box or can and has stuff added to make it yummy. LOL) If you want to buy it at a store that's good too. It will have the ingredients listed on it.
I'm really looking forward to this, so let's get signed up even if you're not sure you'll make it.
Thanks Thanks Thanks!!!!

vics woman 02-22-2006, 06:17 PM hello group, where we stand right now as far as cost of g2g. my intentions are to divide the cost of reserving pic-nic shelter and cost( tableclothes, name tags) we are looking at a total of 90$.for use of park.and additional items i am taking names until last day of febuary then on march first i willl divide number of members into 90$ as of today i have a total of 6 six members which is cost of admission to15$each.them as i said before each member is responsible for cost of their parking/swimming fees their self.also for the main course of your meal.so right now each member is looking at 15$. but that willl change if others sign up. we do have 3 maybes and another week to sign up.:D i really have not decided yet the best way to collect the money.will get back with you all on that by march 1.:;)
kari05 02-22-2006, 07:48 PM hello group, where we stand right now as far as cost of g2g. my intentions are to divide the cost of reserving pic-nic shelter and cost( tableclothes, name tags) we are looking at a total of 90$.for use of park.and additional items i am taking names until last day of febuary then on march first i willl divide number of members into 90$ as of today i have a total of 6 six members which is cost of admission to15$each.them as i said before each member is responsible for cost of their parking/swimming fees their self.also for the main course of your meal.so right now each member is looking at 15$. but that willl change if others sign up. we do have 3 maybes and another week to sign up.:D i really have not decided yet the best way to collect the money.will get back with you all on that by march 1.:;)
My girlfriend who is getting a computer this weekend, will be joining PTO and would like to attend as well.. there will be herself, and her 3 girls ages 13-7- and 6 months. so count her in too:thumbsup:
3eagles 02-22-2006, 08:27 PM I just looked up the swimming fees and if booked 5 days in advance as a group of 10 or more, the discounted rate would be $1.50 for age 3-12 & $2.50 age 13+. A savings of .50 per swimmer, which could be sent in with the members total for the G2G if you wanted to do it that way.
It looks like it's going to be $2 for parking even though it's a weekend because the site said they're going to have construction going on during the summer & to call (804) 492-4410 for current details on construction work.
vics woman, maybe the members could pay through Paypal if they have it or a money order.
I'm not sure if I'd be able to make it or not since I'm trying to borrow to get my car fixed. It'd be nice if it was running & I could save more to get a hitch put on since I was given a pop up trailer last year and anyone coming a longer distance and didn't stay in a hotel could use it. (I still need to check it's condition, but the lady said the person she had gotten it from used it all the time). I also have a tent & a Q air mattress. I'll have to let ya'll know closer to the date. If not, I hope ya'll have a great time.
Oh yeah, Hello...I'm in Richmond. I've visited a lot of the state prisons here & also FCI Petersburg and the local county jails here.
marki1 02-23-2006, 07:22 AM Hey all!!!
I was counted in this right?!
vics woman 02-23-2006, 09:41 AM o.k. kario5 once youre friend gets a member id name she can just post it here i check every day and will include her.
marki yes you are counted for already
3 eagles i think i would rather leave the swimming cost as is. since it would be hard to determine just ghow many would be swimming some might decide to swim once they get there and some that say yes to swimming now may decide not to once there.
as for paying i was thinking of each member sending payment to me and once i have the money in hand i will then reserve the shelter.back with everyone on that in a bit.:)
vics woman 02-23-2006, 09:50 AM right now the list looks like this.
1.vics woman
2.carlsgal
3.daves wife
4..cherieva.
5. barb-k.
6.marki1.
with maybes from.
1.mongos mom.
2.kario5.
3.dwfighterva
vics woman 02-23-2006, 10:18 AM 4.3 eagles
eagles if any one wants to camp ect they haveto get their own spot to camp. the g2g is like a day long pic-nic. cost comes from renting the picnic shelter. which is 50$. then i added on to that price40$. to cover things like tablecloths, name tags, charcoal for the grill.poster boad for a banner type thing stating shelter is pto members spot.and a reciept book. most of this 40$ stuff i will purchase out of my pocket and bring with me early enough to get it all set up.i will have the reciepts for them, if any one wants to see them.and as for the maybes. i will have a money can they can pay at the door so to speak.if i can swing it i will just pay f r it all and everyone can pay at the door. however i do live on a monthly disability check. which after my bills ect, thers is not much left, so once again i will say im still thinking on how to do payment plan the best way.another:idea: im thinking on i really need to talk with davewife first so i will get back with everyone on this matter at a latter date.:)
Daveswife 02-24-2006, 11:12 AM Ok everyone. I talked to Vics last night. If you know you're coming please PM me and I will give you my addy and the name to put on the check or money order. I believe right now it's $15 a person. That may change by the end of the month if we get more people signed up as definates. As Vics said you will be able to pay "at the door" if you aren't sure and end up coming.
I still need everyones real names and addy info for the VA PTO phone book. I also need to know for sure what side dish you're bringing if you haven't told me yet.
I will need to money by the first Sat in May (6th) so I can get the shelter reserved in time.
So far turn out is kinda sad. I really hope we get more people. I know we'll have fun anyway...but...COME ON GUYS LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED! :D  ;)
vics woman 02-24-2006, 03:02 PM cindy and all
i too was a ltttle disapointed in low number of members signed up to come. however on second thought lesss people there greater the chance to visit and get to know each other. so it is going to be a great time regardless of the size. and yes on march the 1st. i will post the correct price of admission, and for those still unsure you will be able to pay at the door if you decide to come so pm daves wife for info to put on money order and address to send it to.:)
howtodeal 02-25-2006, 02:19 PM I would love to meet all of you but I am in the Richmond area. If you are planning something let me know so I can arrange travel time.
kari05 02-25-2006, 03:15 PM I agree Vic's my girlfriend got her computer last night, and I set her up an account, her user name on here is xtace Please everyone welcome her and plan on her attending with her 3 girls.....WAhoooo family getting bigger but its ok, no matter the size we will all have a good time and I dont mind making more food and helping out where needed even with the cost of admission to the park. I also can maybe arrange to bring my camper down here :D
Daveswife 02-25-2006, 08:05 PM I would love to meet all of you but I am in the Richmond area. If you are planning something let me know so I can arrange travel time.
We've set it for right outside Richmond. All the info is posted here. Scroll back through the last page or so and you should find it all.
vics woman 02-26-2006, 11:15 AM how to deal i belive the final place for our virginia g2g starts on page 6 of this thread. it is to be held on june 10 starting at 8am through dark. located at bearcreek lake state park. after you find and read all the details and want to join in just pm me or daves wife or post it here on the virginia g2g thread so you will be added to the list of members coming need to do this by the last day of this month.:)

vics woman 03-01-2006, 03:51 PM well ladies adding xtace to the list brings total of for sures to 7. so beginning today members can contact daves wife cindy on where and how to send in the fee for this event. feee is going to be 12$ and 85 cents.for all the other members there will be a money can to put fee in once you arrive at the g2g. hope everyone is as excited about this as i am.this is going to be so fun.:D

please pm daveswife for address to send fee to. this needs to be done asap. so we can get the shelter reserved. no shelter no g2g. so come on guys gets that fee in.;)
Daveswife 03-21-2006, 06:44 PM Ok guys. I got vics money order and some PM's asking for addy. I've been sick so I haven't been to the P.O. Box since last week. If everyone that PM'd me sent I'll have enough for the shelter, which I'll reserve this weekend. That doesn't mean you shouldn't send the money if you know you're coming. Vics is still paying out of pocket for the picnic stuff (tablecloths, etc). I will either email of mail a copy of the receipt for the shelter when I get it. That way everyone knows where the money went.
I need everyone else to PM me please and send your money. The unsures can "pay at the door", but vics needs some money to get stuff for us.
Daveswife 03-25-2006, 07:51 PM If everyone that PM'd me sent I'll have enough for the shelter, which I'll reserve this weekend
Well, I haven't gotten anything yet. So I won't be able to do it this weekend. As soon as more comes in I'll get it done.

Daveswife 04-08-2006, 08:39 PM Ok guys, We're going to have to call this off if I don't get more money by the end of April. I've gotten a money order from ONE person so far. If I could afford to cover I would, but right now I'm in financial trouble so I'll need more people to confirm by sending money before I can reserve the shelter. I know Vic's has already bought stuff too with her own money. We really need for you guys to send the money to get this together.
Please PM me for the address to send it too.
Thanks

I'm sorry to say that this G2G has officially been called off. I have only received money from 1 person and she spent money out of pocket already too. I'll have to send her the money back.
I'm really disappointed. I was looking forward to this but, I can't afford to pay for the shelter with no help. I also suspect that it's getting booked up by now.
Maybe we can try again at a different time. I hope it works out then.
Thanks Vics.
maybe a multistate thing like others are trying will work better.
vics woman 04-30-2006, 09:31 PM hey everbody, this is first time i have been able to get threads to pull up in a couple weeks.sorry ive been so quit. i want to give a big thanks to daves wife cindy.for keeping every one informed on the progress ofthe g2g.am really bummed out that it had to be cancled since i really tried my hardest to keep it as inexpensive as i could since i know most of you are living off one income and raising kids.i just really do not know how it could have been any less expensive.i also tried my best to get a place in middle of state, a place that held lots of fun stuff for every one to find to do and keep the kids from being bored.if i could have rented shelter i would g have but there is just no way i could. since i live off a monthly disability check.maybe another time we could try again.and if any one else has a ideal for another type of g2g besides the picnic ideal. feel free to try something else just let the rest of us know. disapointed i will not be meeting you all.:( maybe another day another year.sure is good to be able to read and post here on pto again:)
