Helo everyone, my soon to be husband is in a Federal prison in Texas. He is from Oregon. He went to team and requested a transfer back home. They approved him. They told him the wait was 6-8 weeks. He was aproved on Jan 24 2003.
so it has been 17 weeks!! We are so fustrated. Does anyone know how to go about finding out what the hold up is.
They make us feel like we dont have a right to inqury on the transfer. all they tell him is oh ya youll probably get moved next week. Basically they are passing the buck.
They wont tell me anything they say for Security reasons.
So I am wondering does anyone know who I can talk to, to see if there is a tranfer in and whats the hold up?

Thanks so much

Unfortunately, there isnt anyone but his counselor to talk to. They have to wait for an opening at the new prison then for the marshals to come get him. Best advice I can give is to keep checking the bop site daily. When they finally pick him up, you will know it first by looking for him there. It will say intransit and when he get to a transfer center it may take up to a day or two for him to get to a phone. I know how frustrating transfers can be.

I have been told that they can't let you know when an inmate is going to be moved as it is a security risk then. We went thru the BOP transfer thing. They wouldn't tell us anything. Then one day it said he wasn't in their custody ( bop) and I called and they said he was in a calif prison, and we called there and found out where he was. I agree with checking the web site daily. You'll be out of communication for a while when it happens.

I've been travelling the BOP sites lately (for all sorts of thing) and when I found your post I went back...

The security issues are a given...They aren't going to put a transport in danger of being diverted, or give out any classified information...

The hold-up though might be explained by the move that your friend is trying to make... In the BOP site,
http://www.bop.gov/
the maps they use have separate 'Regions'.... Texas is South Central and Oregon--if that's where he's going-- is Western.
It may be that they have routine transports shifting around and within a Region (short drive contracts or trans services) but that Moves from one Region to another are less frequent and probably take all sorts of cooperation as well as money.
What they probably take is enough folks heading in the same direction to make it worth gassing the bus.

Your friend could be good to go, but they may be waiting on his fellow commuters. When he does go, you may find he tells the tale of having gone on a 3 city tour dropping off and picking up other folks before he gets to his busstop.

Just a thought. Logistics...Escorts...Cooperation between what has to be some pair of Regional BOP authorities...
