My boyfriend heard that the good time law was changing and that anyone with a sentence of 20 and under instead of 15 and under can get good time. Even on a class A felony. As anyone heard about this or know if it is true?

The last I heard was the good time law was tabled for further review by the sentencing commitee....It would be nice though if it would change. Alot of guys would get to come home...

i don't see it happening any time soon, not 2006...but with a 15+ year sentence there's always a chance.

it would be nice for them wouldn't it be, and i would bet that it would ease the overcrowding issue a great deal...

I sent an e-mail to the woman who brought this idea up in the last meeting, but it just got kicked back. I wonder how a person could e-mail the sentencing committee and get an answer? Also, she mentioned in that meeting there were some in the legislation who had looked at this idea. Don't they meet again in Dec? If anyone knows how to get in contact with them, please let me know. With the prisons so overcrowded, and some of the legislators have mentioned this, it would make sense if they would seriously look at this as a way to help with the problem. They make this problem so hard, waste money looking at ways to reduce the overcrowding, but just keep saying the same thing. There no telling how many inmates statewide who are really ready to be released back into the free world and would never cause the state any more trouble, inmates who have been in for years, many who may only have a few months, few years left on their sentence, many who have served a life time and no longer the person who was sentenced long long ago. I know there are some who should never be released, because they will never chance and would cut your throat for two dollars. But each inmates should be looked at for the person, not just as a unit of criminals.

I went to that link that Denise posted with the article and wrote to every single one of the people on the sentencing committee. I got a response from 1 guy so far who agreed that this would help. They re-convene in January for their next session. I would suggest for everyone to write and do the same!! the more people they know would support this, the more likely they will be to pass it!

It has not been changed. They keep talking about it but it never passes once it gets to the House (or maybe it's the Senate). Anyway, it is only a rumor. The law is still 15. So if they have 15 and 1 day they get NO GOOD TIME. Which sucks...
