My fiance was serving on active duty and was sentenced under court martial for 2 1/2 years. He has been told he would have the option for parol at 11 months but needs a letter from an employer stating they will hire him. Can anyone direct me to organizations in Virginia that assist with this?

Also, if anyone is familiar with Fort Sill Oklahoma Correctional Facility I could really use some information. He has only been gone for 48 days but it feels like a life time. How do you deal with the waiting, the long days and lonely nights? Thanks, AmberT

Do a web search. A few days ago I remember seeing a site that gave info about organizations willing to help excons - but I don't remember the name of it now....

Try to think positively and when you write to him, don't sob or say things that will only make him feel worse than he already does. He needs lots of encouragement now and you can help him. 11 months is really a short time when you consider the fact that the majority of the people reading this wait for years (and longer) for their inmates to be released - and some never will be released. Just try to keep busy (work, church, community, family, hobbies) and pray that your friend will do well when he gets out so he'll never again be in a jail/prison. You'll make it just fine, Amber. Really you will. Hang in there!

suggestion: Speak with people at your local parole office and ask them for their suggestions/help. Speak with your pastor. Maybe he/she can be of help to you.
Depending upon what kind of work your friend is used to doing, speak with employers in that line of work. The Yellow Pages can be of help to you. Of course, finding someone willing to hire him will be dependant upon what he was convicted of, so keep that in mind.

It might look good to a prospective employer if your friend writes the letters of inquiry. You just get the company name/address and send it to him and let him write the letters - instead of you inquiring for him...??? Just a thought.

Hey Amber! First, Welcome to PTO! Second, my fiance is currently at Ft. Sill RCF also. He too was active duty military and was court martialed on September 8th and sentenced to 28months. He is up for parole in 9months and they already gave him his parole hearing date which is June 1st, 2006. His counselor told him that for parole Job Assistance is also acceptable, but the parole board prefers either a guaranteed job or proof of him going to college. You can feel free to private message me, he has been there now for 2 months. I know how you are feeling though, I'm in North Carolina, the distance is about a good 21 hour drive. I can't go and see him until March.

But definetly PM me if you would like and I can give you my e-mail address. It would be nice if we could chat sometime, maybe they know each other

Hope to hear from you soon!

Forget parole. If it is anything like the Navy it won't happen. He'll get 6 days a month good time and thats it.

Actually rules prohibit military inmates from soliciting Pen Pals so finding them can be difficult.

I think that would depend on his work history and the nature of the offense.

As it was posted in the past, military confinement facilities frown upon penpals. I was confined at both NCB Miramar and the USDB. Both had it against having penpals. The resulting action could be from loosing priviledges to loosing good time credits awarded. The crazy thing is the institution only has to think that it is a penpal to make the infraction stick. I would advise to stay clear of this so you can fly under the radar instead of the microscope
