I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff and one of the most powerful figures in the Bush administration, was formally accused today of lying and obstruction of justice during an inquiry into the unmasking of a covert C.I.A. officer. A federal grand jury indicted Mr. Libby on one count of obstruction, two counts of perjury and two of making false statements in the course of an investigation that raised questions about the administration's rationale for going to war against Iraq, how it treats critics and political opponents and whether high White House officials shaded the truth.
The charges are felonies and could bring a sentence of up to five years in prison and a hefty fine upon conviction. Perjury is lying under oath, to a jury or other investigative body, while making false statements consists of lying to investigators while not under oath.

How did I know that I would find this here, Andy? lol..

Yup, he is in hot water and deservingly so... Lying and all that are crimes enough, and while I don't particularly care for Valerie Plame's & her Husband's "Spy Photo", if Libby leaking caused any spies or networks to fall, then he should be prosecuted for more than just perjury and the like..

Karl Rove, President Bush's senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, was not charged today, but will remain under investigation, people briefed officially about the case said. Mr. Rove's lawyer confirmed that, according to The Associated Press. As a result, the people said, the special counsel in the case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, was likely to extend the term of the federal grand jury beyond its scheduled expiration today.

Because you are smart.

Still, whatever ones politics it is nice to know that lying doesn't always pay-off!

Nope, it doesn't..

It will be interesting to see if the charges stick and if they eventually (in court) lead to other people. Personally, I think he is most likely guilty. The scenario laid out sounds pretty solid as does the information that has been released surrounding it.

The reason Rove was not indicted is because he did not lie to the grand jury (that they are aware of) and the one point that could have been contentious, he came back and clarified. They are saying Scooter stuck to his guns and those guns backfired. Still, not a court of law, and the last place I would want to get stuck is in a grand jury with no legal defense at all. You gotta walk out of there (Rove in this case) and sigh a giant breath of relief to walk away unscathed.

Mr. McClellan said repeatedly at White House news briefings that both Mr. Libby and Mr. Rove had assured him they were not involved in unmasking Ms. Plame. So the charges lodged against Mr. Libby and the ongoing investigation of Mr. Rove offer abundant grist, at least for now, to critics who question the administration's commitment to truth and candor.

I am not presuming either is guilty....but I have my prejudices. I really do feel for anyone that has to deal with our penal and "justice" system. Even those I do not like!
