All of the universities that I have attended operated on the semester schedule. The online doctoral programs that I am looking at ALL operate on a quarter schedule. For a PhD you need 70 semester hours or 134 quarter hours. Are the quarters shorter than a semester? Are they less intense, more intense? I am not sure I get it. Help me...what am I missing?

My first BA was in semester hours and my current one is in quarter hours. One semester hour is equal to 1.5 quarter hours. So the normal, 3 credit hour class is 4.5 credit hours for quarters.
Does that make sense?

I think I get it, so that being the case would this be accurate:
70 semester hours (3 credits per class) = approx. 23 classes
134 quarter hours (4.5 credits per class) = approx. 29 classes
If this is right then what is the benefit of having to take 6 more classes?
