Conjugal Visitation: A U.S. Perspective
I'm putting this resource here since many of us lifer families may be especially concerned with being eligible for family/conjugal visits; this could help you when you write letters to public officials.
This report is an oldie but goodie!!
It describes overnight visiting programs in Mississippi and it names other studies that show the positive effects of family visits.

Ah, one more thing: here's a NEW study showing that most wardens do not think family visits are beneficial, but says that belief is misinformed:
