View Full Version : Hey everyone...I'm new to all of this...
BrandonsGal 10-14-2005, 08:42 PM Hi from Tuscaloosa Alabama...my best friend *soulmate* is currently at Kilby awaiting classification...he'll be gone for at least 2 years...all because he was on probation (marijuana possession charges) and then failed 3 random drug tests...I'm so worried about him....but he's of strong mind and body, so hopefully he'll come back to me ok.. :)
BrandonsGal 10-14-2005, 09:32 PM Hey to all!
I have a few questions. I was wondering how I can send him money orders...also do books have to be sent from places such as amazon, etc...and will they simply throw away any mail that they think is inappropriate or will they send it back to me?
Also, what actually goes into the classification process at Kilby...he's a non-violent offender and is doing time for a probation violation...is it possible that he could get out early for good behavior...also, could work release be an option?
I'm miserable because I don't have a home phone...only a cell...and his mom said that a 3-way call (like in county) would disconnect him...is this true or are there ways around it? I miss his voice...
Any info would be greatly appreciated...sorry to ramble on for so long...My prayers are with everyone!
God Bless!

BrandonsGal 10-15-2005, 07:41 PM Thanks to all for the warm welcome...I finally got a letter today...it's been almost a week since he got transferred from the Tuscaloosa County jail to Kilby....he's doing as good as he can be...but still in a state of shock...i hope the time will go by fast.
God bless!
InLuvWALPrsnr 10-17-2005, 08:46 AM Welcome to PTO! You will find lots of support here, and lots of answers for your questions. Regarding money orders: as long as he's at Kilby you can send him $ but be sure his AIS# is on them. Also, once he's classed up and moved to his facility, he will have to fill out a visit/funds list. Unless he puts you on his funds list, then you will not be able to send him $ so tell him to be sure you are on there. Also, books/literature must come from the publisher or a book house that can put a sticker on it from the publisher. You don't want to send him anything unless he's already gotten the book approved by the prison. Otherwise they'll end up sending it back and you'll have to pay postage on it again.
Usually when they get to Kilby they are there for two weeks and then moved into the general population. They took only a couple of weeks to move Wes to his facility, but a friend of his was there for nearly two months. I wish the two of you the best of luck!!

BrandonsGal 10-18-2005, 10:48 PM Hi everyone...I just talked to him and he is starting to deal with his situation...getting over the shock... He was classified as a level 5 and sent to Ventress...does anyone know what a level 5 means...good or bad? and from what I've read about Ventress on here so far...the conditions are awful...but, is there anything else I should know...restrictions on mail...money orders, visitation, etc? Any info or tips for me or my man would be greatly appreciated.
Gob bless,
Georgia
baldwinlady 10-19-2005, 12:05 PM Georgia,
My son Jason is in Ventress Dorm #10..conditions are awful...no air or heat...food stucks....bugs are very bad...no mail restrictions (except pictures nothing nasty or with pic's of beer can's, etc.) you can send any amount and any kind of money orders, just make sure you put his AIS #....mailing address is
V.C.C.- P O Box 767- Clayton, AL 36016-0767= the only tip I can think of is for him to stay to himself and no borrowing, what he would have to apy is triple. My son is 22 yrs old, he will be at Ventress another 6 mths, his parole was denied this past Monday. Jason may be able to help Brandon, letting him know the bad people to stay away from, if he wants to look him up. s far as visitation, I have never visited. But I hear it isn't a picnic. If I can be of help feel free to send me a p.m.
God Bless,
Linda

I hate to tell you but that is true. My daughter in law has worked out a plan to have my son call heron her cell by prepaying Correctional Billing. She has a nextel phone with one of the callling plans that has free incoming calls.
