My husband goes up for parole this year and I was considering posting his story on a petition online site and asking others to sign the petition if they would be in favor of his release. I don't know how the parole board would feel about something like this. What I'm afraid of is that the victims family will have a petition to deny him parole because they have very strong ties to the victims advocate group(s). I realize that if there is a petition from the victims family, those supporters would have to make their decision based solely on the crime (supposely, they don't have access to his parole plan or institutional record), whereas supporters in favor of his release would be aware of the crime, as well as the progress he has made while incarcerated because that's how I would present his story. I thought if the petition was successful if would show community support, although the individuals signing the petition wouldn't necessarily be from the community we would live. Anybody out there have any thoughts on this subject? Should I or shouldn't I post his (our)story online at PetitionOnline.com And does anyone have suggestions relating to parole? I also plan on gathering letters of support from educators, family members, and anyone else who can speak to his changed character.
