View Full Version : Serving Life for Crimes Commited During Childhood prettygirl 10-12-2005, 05:12 PM Check out: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9667158/ JohnsHeart 10-12-2005, 10:58 PM its pathetic. John was 14 when he was arrested and 15 when he was given his life sentence without parole ... but there are kids today who are getting that same sentence at younger ages! :( qwerty 10-13-2005, 01:27 AM LWOP for kids is just wrong... penwife 10-13-2005, 09:48 AM I think LWOP is wrong period. But to take a young child, try him as an adult (when he isn't!) just so he can have a longer sentence is wrong! thanks for posting this! penwife MiaBellaAngela 10-13-2005, 09:53 AM All psychological evidence and research shows that the decision-making portion of the brain is not fully developed until about age 21. So we are locking up these kids for life when they biologically might not be capable of making sound decisions. JohnsHeart 10-14-2005, 11:15 PM yeah its pretty pathetic :( but we remain hopeful ... Celest0721 05-01-2007, 08:22 PM I agree with everyone in giving a young person a life sentence. The world has changed alot and you really need to see things in a case by case basis. There's kids out here dealing drugs, carrying guns and hanging out with the completely wrong crowd as early as age 8 if not younger. When the parents have done all they can in getting the child help, in trying to keep him out of trouble and if he continues to go back and just starts to create a juvenile record and is uncontrollable. Would you still think it's unfair for him to receive a life sentence for a crime commited. I don't believe Life without Parole will be justice but a good served time would set him straight. SaulNMe4ever 05-05-2007, 01:16 AM i can relate to this my husband who just turned 19 in feb he was sentenced to LWOP for murder when the jury found him not guilty of being the shooter he was 16 at the time.. :( |
