RJ'S MOM, I was in the same boat as you, with my husband. But prison isn't as bad as you think, atleast thats what I think, once your son has been there for 3 to 6 months he will adjust to the situation, and he will be fine, even if he is not street smart. Don't get me wrong, prison isn't a fun or good place to be, but as long as he has people that love him, he will get through it just fine. Best Wishes, Deb

hi RJs mom,

i hope you have been able to find time to breathe lately. we're all in something of the same boat. is your son going to fort leavenworth USDB (military) or leavenworth USP? if he's in the military, it's the USDB (known often simply as "DB"). you can find DB phone numbers in other threads in this forum but i'm going to post them here for convenience:

Commandant: 913-758-3602
Inmate Administration: 913-758-3646
Visitation Clerk: 913-758-3649 daytime, 913-758-3674 after hours

once your son is out of reception (i believe it's 30 days), he will be able to have visits. check out threads by DeNada, because she knows all the ins and outs of max custody, where your son might be when he first gets there. if he's in the general population, visitation at the DB is every day: 7-9:30 pm weeknights, and 8-11 am and 1-4 pm on weekends and national holidays. if your son is at the USP you might want to check the federal prison forum or the kansas forum.

feel free to pm me with other questions; i talk often to my inmate and i can get some answers, but everyone on this site/forum is very helpful. read as much as you can, because your questions might already be answered! :)

keep the faith,
krista

If I can answer any very specific questions, I would be happy to. Street smarts doesn't really matter when in USDB as it would I suppose in the USP.
