USA: New report shows USA only country in world sentencing thousands of children to life without parole
(New York) - There are at least 2,225 child offenders serving life without parole (LWOP) sentences in US prisons for crimes committed below the age of 18, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said in a major new report.
The USA is one of only a few countries in the world that actually permits children to be sentenced to LWOP and there are thought to be only 12 young offenders outside of America who are currently serving life sentences with no possibility of parole.
