I have a friend writing a guy in Roxbury - he is hinting to her that unless somebody sends him money he'll go all winter with out a heavy coat and we're tyring to see if this is true. Maybe I'm too much of a cynic, but I would have thought cold weath things were provided. He is also hinting for money for a typewriter - anybody know how much they cost?

Typewriters run between $200-$350 and can only be ordered through certain companies (they have to be clear). I will try to find an answer to the coat question. My ex was at RCI on his last bid, I sent him a coat in one of his packages. It's a lot less expensive to buy them on the outside and include them in their packages, however they do have to meet certain criteria. But, from what I remember, the state did provide coats for indigent inmates.

Thanks - I'll check and see if he has any family to sent a box, but I'm guessing not.

Thanks y'all - she did call and was told he could have a coat given to him once he requested one. She mentioned that they person on the Maryland end had a real accent! ;-) she is in California and it seems she thinks we talk funny.

I'm guessing the guy was hoping she'd send money for a coat and then he would had it to his typewriter account. I know that sound cynical, but I did 7 years myself and have seen such things a 100 times.

Twice in the past week, I've spoken to people on the left coast who made remarks about my southern accent, I've lived in Maryland my entire life. What accent?

I wouldn't buy the typewriter story either, sounds like a con to me. If he says he "needs" it to write to the courts or whatever, she could offer to type things for him on her computer. But, I'm sure he will have an excuse why that wouldn't work.
