Hi,
I write to an African American man in Fl prison. I like him a lot and he is a nice guy. I made it very clear to him that I am not interested in getting more involved than friendship. So when he addressed me as, and said it a few times in the letter... 'my Queen' in his last mail I wasnt sure how to take it  . I am single and he is single. Is it a come on or is 'Queen' just a way to say 'female friend.' I am not really objecting I just wasn't prepared for an instant attachment if he means that. On the other hand he calls his daughters Queens. Some US english translation please. Thanks.

I think you'll find it's just a term he's using for someone who's important to him. I'm sure if you ask him he'll explain that. I've had a lot of problems with the American version of English, as Tony has with my Queen's English, we just make a point of asking now. I did send him an English dictionary, so he can spell properly(!!) and one that put English into American English and we joke a lot about his use of the 'bastardization' of the English language.

Wow!

My man has called me his Queen for ages. I had no idea it was a language difference! I just assumed it was his way of telling me how important I am.

Sometimes I feel so ignorant. He knows the white world and I'm kinda ignorant of the black world. I didn't know what "thick" was about?! It took me forever to believe he was attracted to me being older and large because white men are the opposite!!! (well most)

Ditto on what Ewife said, just a term of endearment.

PByrd- I heard the heck out of that! White men are the total oppoiste of Black men when it comes to that.
