State and Federal Prisons have accomodations for this.

They will ensure prenatal care, and depending on the prevailing policies (federal in this case) they may be able to be much more merciful following delivery, than you'd expect.

If the child will be given up to a family member, visits (including 'bonding' visits---longer contact visits arranged around regular visiting hours) can be an option.
If the child is given up to foster care, concessions too can be made for the foster volunteer to 'present' the child for bonding visits prior to any permanent action of adoption being taken.

Prenatal care includes regular check ups, prenatal vitamins, counselling, and where I was, a dispensation for 'prenatal' snacks being ordered through the kitchen and pregnant women were the only ones given milk at every meal. They have to get their calorie count up over what is normally given to others not pregnant...

It's not a picnic, and delivery isn't fun if you're under guard at the time or can't wait for an out-ambulance and deliver in the infirmary..

In 5 years I saw a lot of pregant women. Some arrived that way, some got the pleasure on furlough, or the hot minute they succeed on parole before a PV.

Your friend is not the first and will not be the last pregant woman inside. Does that help to know?
