Pledge challenge takes another step toward appellate court

A federal judge and attorneys on both sides agreed Wednesday on a strategy that will expeditiously get to an appellate court Michael Newdow's challenge of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Newdow, a Sacramento atheist, is to file by Oct. 26 a motion for a permanent injunction barring the defendant school districts from having their students recite the pledge.
