Hi Alabama Members! I need help locating companies in the Birmingham area who will hire a Felon. I was convicted of a violent crime almost ten years ago. I served 30 months at Tutwiler, 5 years on Probation, and have been "off paper" 10 months.
I've been self-employed for the past 6 years, and let me tell you it's been a constant struggle. I need benefits and job security. I would prefer to work for a non-profit or an organization that gives back to the community &/or helps people in some way.
Any info would be most appriciated! Thanks!!

welcome to pto, its a pleasure to meet ya and i'm sure you'll find loads of support here.
Jobs--i'm coming up blank at the moment, but i'll give it some thought and let you know.
maybe other's here can help..

Just wanted to welcome you to PTO and especially the Alabama forum family!!
I don't live in Alabama and my guy will be coming back to Tennessee post release so my personal knowledge of such resources are limited, but I will be thinking/looking and with any luck some of our other Alabama members may come up with some good ideas as well!

Thanks You Two! I'm glad I found PTO as well! This would have been a great source of support over the last six years. Have I been out that long? Sometimes it seems like yesterday.
Hey, you guys should be proud of yourselves for taking such an active part in a much needed resource. More should be done to help former Inmates adjust to life on the outside.

Amen to that Sister!!! And welcome to PTO!! I have a cous in Huntsville area, but no one in B'Ham so I doubt I could find out about JOBS.. Sorry. Good luck though!

Welcome to PTO! Have you tried local employment offices? I would set up an interview with a counsellor, be honest, they have programs with local businesses for people going out on parole, I'm sure they could find you something. Best of luck!!
