My husband just got transferred there to New Folsom a week ago from across the street Old Folsom. He was in the hole at old and is still there at new folsom even though his time for the hole is over with today. That alone doesn't make sense. He says the yards are all messed up stabbing cops or each other. How long does it take for them to get mail? How often do they get phone calls on mainline? How do family visit work there? Do they take along time for it? Please any info would help!

The prison places inmates in Ad/seg until there is a bed/cell for them. My husband went to another prison from there on a Medical Return and when he returned he spent a few weeks in the hole.

I don't know how it is there now (my husband has been going for almost 2 years) but the mail there is horrible!! It can up to 3 weeks for a inmate to get mail. And my husband never had any trouble getting to phone when the yatd wasn't locked down.

My fiance' is there, he calls once a week depending if they're off lockdown. Fortunately he's in C yard and they don't seem to have as many problems as the other yards. Takes about 10 days for him to get mail from me. That's if someone in the mail room isn't messing with it.

I think they keep new transfers in the hole for 30 days as their "orientation" before they're put on a specific yard. Hopefully your husband will be taken to C-yard . . . from what I hear that's about the best place to be at New Folsom . . . if there is such a thing as "best place" in prison!?

My man is in B-facility, and it's all kinds of screwed up! His area has been on lockdown since April, and was just recently given their contact visits back. Hopefully phone privileges will be next!? I've always been a little unclear on the phone situation at New Folsom. I thought they were given one call a month, unless they had a job, and then they got to call more often. But before the marathon lockdown started, my man was calling me every day that he was out of his cell . . . although, I'm not sure how he managed to do that!?

My mail has been taking about 3 weeks to get to him. During the best of times, it takes about 8 days, but it hasn't been that speedy since June! And we just recently discovered that they're holding my mail for some strange reason . . . they keep it for weeks and then deliver it in a big bundle all at once!? Apparently, the mailroom opens the mail to check it for contraband, then they tape it up and deliver it. But recently, my letters have had the tape broken on them, and seem to be taking longer than other mail. I don't know what's so interesting about mine . . . maybe I should stop writing such entertaining letters!? :haha:

I often wish I could contact the USPS, and report when a prison is keeping an inmate's mail for too long. There should be a set amount of time the prison has to process mail . . . in a perfect world, right!? I've noticed that if you send something Express Mail, the guys usually get it in a few days. I recently did that because I'm just so tired of him being a month behind on everything! :argh:

Anyways . . . hope that helps put your mind at ease a bit . . . PM me if you have any other questions . . . take care!

Mu husband is in New Foslom and it takes me around 2-3 days to get his mail but, it takes almost 2 weeks for him to get mine. He calls every friday in the day time and and every 6 days in the evening. I don't know if you will have problems with Family Visits but we did. My husband sent the form 6 times and the visitng officer kept saying that they never recieved it, even when my husbands saregent brought it there himself and put it in the Mail slot, it was so frustrating.....

Well my cousin is in new folsom as well, but believe me when i say this..every yard and every inmate is a different situation. many inmates are treated differently as well. My cousin doesnt call that often, but i know that it takes him about 2-3 weeks for him to receive his mail. It is terrible in there~
