View Full Version : A partial explanation on recent site problems
Fed-X 05-16-2003, 03:51 PM In the last few weeks we (Darin_S and I) have been battling a number of problems that have been making the forums (PTO) crash. We have been getting database errors that have crashed the site a number of times and caused some posts to be lost if it occurred when the crash took place.
Unfortunately, all the guru's that are working around the clock on this (this is MUCH larger than PTO.. and even vBulletin, the software we use. Other community software is malfunctioning and bringing 100's and 1000's offline) still do not have a solid solution. They are pretty sure that it is a problem with the new version of mySQL, though many suspect WHM/Cpanel to have some part in it. Either way, there is some problem that is causing corruption in the database tables. These can be repaired easy enough if you know how, but until it is discovered, the site will be offline.
To try and get around this problem I am having mySQL backdated to the last, or next to last stable release before the 4x version that just came out. Hopefully this will put an end to the random crashing until the problem can be solved.
I apologies to everyone that has been inconvenienced by this.
Thanks,
David

tonib 05-16-2003, 04:47 PM Thank God! I was worried that I had either entered an alternative universe or that I had just lost my mind and couldn't undestand English any longer. Nice to know that I am not alone and that I am still sane. Well...er....Nice to know that I am not alone!

sodaigakko 05-16-2003, 05:13 PM "All the posts and stuff is kept in a big database. There is software that makes the database go. The new software screws up. David is putting the old software back. Maybe it will work better again."
David works hard. David is our hero. Really, he is! :)

Lysbeth 05-16-2003, 05:48 PM Heck, I'm pretty techno-geeky and that all still might as well be in Japanese to me. But I trust that our fearless leader is on top of things... whatever the heck they are... :D
