Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can give me any info on the Northern Ca prisons. My fiancee has been wrongfully convicted of child molestation and we are appealing, etc but in the meantime he is going off to prison. Does anyone know anything about High Desert? Can they get packages, make phone calls, etc while in reception? He goes there first and then he will move to his new "home". He says that he needs to be in protective custody but I've read a couple of places now that "PC" means total lockdown for 23 hours a day, no phone, no visits no nothing? Can he survive their without going into "PC". I've also heard that he could.

Any info anyone knows would be most appreciated. Thanks :)

I can help you with HD reception. My man was in PC there. It is AdSeg, 23 hrs in. No phone, no packages, but they don't get those in GP reception anyway. I wouldn't recommend that he try GP, mine talked his way in and got cut in the first week. If he doesn't know ANYBODY there, and no one from his county jail shows up and he has forged "papers" that show some other charge, then maybe. He will get glass visits, one hour, on Sat and Sun. That's the same as GP, too. So getting into GP won't get him phones, contact visits or quarterly packages. IT only gets him day room and yard. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

I believe they're locked down 23 hours a day when they're in reception, and also when they're in ad-seg, but once he gets out of reception, he should be ok. He'll be able to get out of the cell, make calls, have regular visits on the weekend. He should also be safer on the PC yard. A lot of the people in the PC yard are just people who don't want to get caught up in the politics of the main line yard.
Your fiancee could probably survive going to the main line, but he'd better be ready to fight if he does. Sex offenders do not do well on the main line yards. If he goes to the PC yard he'll be fine.

One more thing: it can take longer to get out of reception if you're going to a PC yard. It took my husband 5 months, and I've heard of guys waiting almost a year.
