clinton is in the Southampton CC in Capron Virginia. He used to be at Greensville CC, but he likes this one more because it is small. the visiting time is very bad there is one visiting room and you can stay one hour....even when you come from Belgium!!!! they do have a new warden now and he is making some good inprovements. he seems to be a cool guy...that is what they say....

I don't have a loved one in Virginia but I've got penfriends in Sussex 1 (DR) and one in Wallens Ridge.

My friend of nearly 25 years is in Deerfield, Capron, Va. Deerfield is right "next door' to Southamptom. There are many older inmates there, including my friend, for is 66.
Someone posted about Southamptom and that there was a new warden. Jim Beale was the warden at Deerfield and I know that he was soon to be going to Southampton, so I guess that is who the poster meant. If so, she is right: He is a cool guy and a good person. My friend was desvasted to see him leave.

yes HUGGYBEAR, I hear more and more good things from this new warden...but some stupid rules are made up by CO trying to impress the new warden. the prisoners must get up at 5.30h morning for count now...they never used to have to do that, but now they do...they all think this is such a stupid rule and they hate it. But as far as the new warden, he is still cool!

Joey is at Caroline Correctional Unit in Hanover County. The prison is physically located in Dawn, Virginia, but hardly anyone has ever heard of that!

I'm in Northern Virginia so it's an hour and 45 minute drive, which isn't bad at all!

My friend is in Pulaski Correctional Unit #1 in Pulaski, VA. He is only 10 minutes away so i go see him every Saturday. And with him being so close the calls from him cost less than $2 each time! He gets out in 6 months and he's soo excited! :D

Hi, Andy is in Halifax Correctional. He has been gone since December '97. He has been to 2 other prisons here in good old VA. I haven't seen him since he went to Halifax. It is a 4 hour ride one way from where I live. I just can't do it, and I feel guilty. I can't even remember how long it has been since I have seen him in person. To be honest, I think I have been shell shocked from the start and I am not too sure about anything. I am so happy to find this place. Finally, there are people who have a clue about this life. He has been blocked from calling home because I changed phone companies right before MCI pulled their stunt. We never talked much anyway. But now I feel very cut off knowing I can't talk to him even if I wanted to. His maximum release date is 9/04. He doesn't like talking about it at all. He says it just makes his time harder to do. I sit and try to figure out when he might be out considering good time. I just find it easier to ignore it too and just shoot for 9/04. I have a hard time dealing with this whole thing when I think about it too much. Because of this I think I have not been the best girlfriend/fiance'. I have been reading about all of you and now I feel this real need to find out all of the things I have been ducking. I really need to get my head together. I am glad to be here.

My husband is Southhampton CC in Capron, va.

Kevin is at New River Valley Regional Jail (NRVRJ) in Dublin (near Blacksburg). I have found out that he will not be transferred, as he was sentenced to 12 mths, not more. Personally, I'm glad - I know I'll be worried sick if he's transferred. Good time is sposed to be 10mths, 19 days - and he's completed almost 7 weeks, so......I guess we're looking at early Spring 04. Tooooo long.

We are looking at the HEM program, so he can do 1/3 of his time and come home with an ankle bracelet. We're not sure if he will qualify or not, I pray that he is. Even if he's locked up at home, I don't think he would complain!!!

my fiance is at sussex state I in Waverly, VA. he has been doing his bid since 1998 and still has until 2007 to go. although he is only 2 hours away i don't get to see him very much because i am in college. i miss him so much and can't wait to get him home. he can't call me becaus emy mom has her phone blocked from collect calls so we don't talk unless he calls his sister and she calls me on three way, but i do make sre to write him at least once a week. well, i am glad that i have people to talk to that know exactly how i am feeling. thank you.

My son Allen is at the VA. Peinsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, VA. He has not gone to the DOC yet.

My boyfriend is in Rustburg Correctional Unit 9, located in Rustburg Va. He's not due to be released until Feb O5. I try to make the 1 hour 45 min. drive every other weekend.

My brother is at Petersburg, medium. When you get there you have to fill out a paper at this shelter that looks like a bus stop outside. Then pick up the red phone and let them know you are coming up. DO NOT WEAR ANYTHING TIGHT. You might get pass one guard but it does not matter how long you are there every guard will eye you up and down. DO NOT WEAR SLEEVLESS SHIRTS not even under a jacket, they will not let you in. Lastly......pack you pants with toilet paper, the sets are hard as a brick. How do you say HEMORRHOIDS!!!!!!! Have fun.

My honey is in Big Stone Gap, Virginia at Wallens Ridge State Prison. He used to be at Augusta Correctional Center, Red Onion State Prison, and South Hampton. For whatever reason, he cannot behave himself so he was moved to a higher level classification.:confused:

Pokey is in Lawrenceville for now. He says he likes it there. The private camps are supposed to offer a little more opportunity to better yourself. I wish he'd get moved closer...

my beautiful fiance' is in the brunswick women's work center in lawrenceville, va. she has been there 4 1/2 years. she did 2months in the botetourt jail, 7 months at goochland and 1 year at fluvania. she is very happy where she is now. we are allowed visits on saturdays, sundays and holidays from 8:30 to 3pm. it only has about 190 women there and they all work.

Hi I'm new and the last time I saw my brother was when I was in the 8th grade or about 14 years old. I'm twenty now and he was at Red Onion for an unarmed robbery charged, then a a correctional officer made some accusation about force he used and he was moved to Red Onion. Now, he's back at Wallens Ridge and I'm going to see him for the first time pretty soon. I'm going to be a criminal defense lawyer for people like my brother and the 18 yr. old young woman named Joanna who's in prison for a possession charge but it was in her house and not on her person. I don't think the system works to the advantage of the people with less influence and leans more towards the people and children of people with the money. I'm going to start off as a public defender because it starts there and hopefully I can prevent 18 yr olds and 20 somethings from having their adolescence ripped out of their hands because they are to be made an example by the attorney general or judge of that state.

Pokey just got moved to Southampton Work Center yesterday. He's only about an hour away now. I can't wait until they update his freakin time. His review was in May.

My hubbie is in Arlington County Jail and is due to be sent to prison any day for 10 to 12 years. I don't where they'll send him. I'm sad.....

my son chris is in the bristol city jail. he is waiting to go to one of the prisons we have no ideal where. i cant believe they take the men out of the city jail in the middle of the night and they ccant even tell their family where they will be until they get there. i know i am scared to even think about what it will be like there. he will be gone for 4 snf 1/2 more years. it is hard not to be able to hug him when i want. we have always been so close. oh by the way i am new to this it makes me fell better to find this site and read all the comments from other family members.

I don't have any loved ones in Marion, but my husbands best friend is a psychologist there, for the past 3 yrs. We had hoped that when my husband was sent to New River that they may send him to Marion, as he has problems with severe depression/anxiety/ and social phobia (when not on meds - and New River wasn't giving him them). Kevin wanted to go. But, he wasn't wasn't anywhere near being MArions classification.

Marion is a State Hospital, it's used for the those with less than a normal metal capacitation, major psych problems (Schitzophrenia, etc). The care there seems good, you wear civilian clothes, they are required to give smoke breaks every hour, you can get weekend passes home. The drawback: Once you're in the State Hospital system, they tell you when you leave. If the judge gave you 3 yrs, and at 3 yrs, the staff feels like you still need more therapy, they can keep you until you're 100% ready.

You can go to the VDOC site (http://www.vadoc.state.va.us/), you can probably get the site for MArion and find out more info. My husband had applied for many jobs there (he's a counselor), but unfortunately, now that he's a felon, I don't think they'll be asking for any more interviews. I'll ask our friend who is a Dr. there about the patient care (considered patients, not inmates) about what he thinks about it compared to prison. I've actually bought some of their art projects they do - they make extra money working on things (like I have a cow mailbox and some windchimes) and it helps with outings they go on. Oh, there are different areas of the hospital that aid in different types of mentally ill. Some are just there because they prisons cannot keep up with their medication management, some are suicidal, some have mental disorders that they need to work on before being let out in society. Sometimes it's temporary - they may go back to a rregular prison, most are there until they're ready to go.

My wife is at Puemansend Creek Regional Jail right outside of Fredericksburgs. She gets hom June 2007. She's trying to get transferred to a state facility, but isn't sure if she's at the best of evils. DOC Classification is saying she's going to do her whole bid there (she's doing 5 years). THat's a long time in a regional with only 2 hr visits a day on the weekends. Since I live in MD and no longer drive, the kids and I only see her every couple of weeks. It sucks. We used to go every sat and sun, but now we don't drive so...

I have no personal knowledge of Keen Mountain...but have read about it online at Virginia Department of Corrections. I also have heard from my son that is where he hopes to be transferred to in the near future. He is in a Level 5 facility. What I read is Keen Mountain has all the trade programs for incarcerated persons. It has more jobs. It is one of the better rehabilitation prisons in Virginia...and we all know how poor a job Virginia does in rehab of incarcerated persons. Also, you can simply type online in Yahoo, Keen Mountain State Prison to find out all you can from there.

Just a reminder, if you plan to visit and need a hotel, go online and get a cheaper rate...

So you know, my son has been on lock down many times. Not because he did anything, but because someone in their pod did and called for them all to be locked down... It is being in the "hold" or "catching a charge" that you need to worry about... It means your truly did something wrong according to DOC... Lock down is common throughout Virginia prisons...

thanks for your reply chris is doing ok when he called today he said i still cant come and visit when i do i can only visit through glass he has no idea what is going on he has had 4 punishments for the same offense. now they sent him a letter that he is going to have another displinary hearing on the same thing sound like they have no idea what is going on. i believe they are just trying to break him. we can not have contact visit for 6 months. i dont understand he doesnt want me to try and find out what is going on. i really dont know what to do, but i cant go against what he wants.

If Chris ask that you not get involve, respect his wishes for now. However, you can call to introduce yourself to his counselor. To make sure that the his counselor has all the correct contact information on file. To let the counselor know that he has family that care and plan to take active part towards his rehabiliation and re-entry process to society when release. At that time you can ask about his status and how he is doing? There's nothing wrong with introduction. In fact, I personally encourage families to do so. Go on record that your love one has family whom are supportive of that loveones rehabiliation, especially since DOC doesn't. Just be professional and keep it to the point and not make it personal.

On a personal experience note... Chris needs to correct the disciplinary problems he is experiencing. How you come into the system can follow you every where you go. He must decide whether he wants to do his time constructively or do hard time. I am not saying he is doing anything wrong, only that, there is something going on with his actions that are resulting in so many incidents. To be at a Level 4 facility which is not a Max and you not being able to visit for such a long period means he is headed for rough times... In fact, at the hearing can lead to him being sent to "Red Onion" state prison and ask anyone about Red Onion...it is the Max of the Max for behavior problem inmates. Some like it at Red Onion... You have your own cell, but you are locked down 23 hours a day. You have no tv or radio unless you send him the monies to get it...and I am not sure whether they are allowed to have these things. It's no picnic and it doesn't look good on any one's record to say, you had to go to Red Onion. Now my son is at Level 5 which is a Max and he hasn't had any incident... Praise God...for the truth is, there you are with Lifers like Red Onion...There it isn't any joke and no one is joking with you... There, no one wants any trouble for the freedom and enjoyment they have can be snatch away... The older inmates make it clear to the new and young, don't come here starting up...messing up...or they will turn on you... So it's more stable there... Everyone owns their own TV, cassette and etc... However, they are locked down 23 hours, wrongly so, they are suppose to get 3 hours rec a day, but you know how that is, they do what they want and find a reason to justifiy it... However, at the Level 5 prisons, they do welcome family intervention and will work with families, such as they have with us and others...

So, please for Chris sake and yours... Tell him to cool down... Simply follow the stupid rules to have and keep his mouth shut... Take the time to find out about the prison and how it is run... It is better to listen than to talk to fast... It takes about a year to understand the place... He doesn't want the reputation of a trouble maker...for both the inmates and CO will be on his case... I don't Chris religious beliefs, but if he believes in God, tell him to pray daily... Ask God to make each and every day bearable... You pray daily that he is in the Best of health, Best of Spirits and Safe...and pray for his cell partner for he has to live with whomever they put him with...

Lastly, I think the reason they might not be allowing the crossword is because of his problems... This is how they do you... To show Chris whom has the power... Let them have the power... But Chris must believe he has the strength to prevail all the powers of the wickness through doing himself...making the best of his situation...and understanding he isn't allow...He isn't the only one... That before him was others and there will be others after him...

nettie, thanks for all your replies they are so helpful. chris has never been a trouble maker but he is very out spoken he is a person that is always right (most the time he really is) he is a very kind hearted person someone that could be taken advantage of easily.i believe his bigest problem is that he just can not stand for himself and other to be treated less than human. i believe that he will accept that he is at their mercy and settle down. my prayers are always with him and he prays daily for strength.

A Few Things To Think About If You Are Incarcerated

Despite difficult obstacles, there is much you can do, while incarcerated. The following is a list
of ways to minimize the negative impact of your experience and maximize the positive.

The recidivism (backsliding/relapse) rate for prisoners across the nation is approximately 80%. This rate drops to about 20% when prisoners attend any type of educational program. Our experience has been that the recidivism rate is even lower when prisoners attend spiritual programs such as ours.

- The Gangaji Foundation Prison Program

Since more than 90% of the nation's prisoners are eventually released, it is important that you work toward the following goals:

Choose your battles (your primary focus):

1) Your personal growth should be the focus of your efforts. Don't dwell on issues of your status in prison, the staff at the institution, or your fellow prisoners. You can't control your environment, but you can control what you do with your own life.

2) Grievances and litigation are expensive, time-consuming, generally unsuccessful, and frustrating. Concentrate on bettering yourself. There are self-help and religious materials available which can assist you.

3) There is no significant merit to being the center of attention or a staunch defender of what's right. It is counter-productive to cultivating serenity.

4) Prepare mentally and emotionally for your eventual freedom. If you are a lifer, or even if you are in for a specific term, your "freedom" increases as your own inner attitudes and perceptions change for the better. If you are looking at getting out at some point, then practice visualizing and feeling those positive activities and interactions you will have with people when you get out. This type of visualization is helpful for creating your future.

Nurture relationships:

1) Understand that others on the streets do have a life and many responsibilities (especially in view of your absence), and may not be home whenever you call.

2) Correspond with those who are positive, supportive, and helpful in terms of a positive future.

3) Do not abuse telephone privileges. It is expensive.

4) Letters, calls, and visits should focus on positive issues and free world events, and not be a gripe session regarding prison policies. Ask your loved ones to focus on the positive as well.

5) Be supportive of others on the street. The inmate is not the only one who has problems. Be sensitive to your family's difficulties. They may experience changes in income, responsibilities, residence, etc., possibly because of your absence.

6) Because life in the free world may be hectic, you may have to do more than 50% of the work to maintain the relationship. Remember, your close friends and family are "doing time" with you. Be grateful for those who remain loyal and supportive. Don't waste time and energy being angry with those who cannot be supportive.

7) It takes time to build on relationships, to get to an intimate level. Be sensitive to opportunities to discuss your background, offense patterns, etc. Learn to listen.

Contribute to your environment in a positive way:

1) Contribute your gifts and talents to help individuals and organizations in and out of the prison environment.

2) Your offending behavior was a part of your life, not the whole thing. Certainly there is a need to take responsibility for your past actions and address psychological issues with honesty and without denial. However you must also learn to build on the positive aspects of who you are. Build on positive personality traits and qualities and stop playing the old negative self-talk tapes.

3) Be aware of all possibilities for participation at your facility in positive, self-enhancing activities. Learn what is available. Like any new living experience, you must seek ways to participate. Check with staff or fellow inmates to learn what activities are available and how to go about getting involved. You will have to take the initiative to find these. Read bulletin boards, talk to counselors and chaplains for suggestions.

4) Find a suitable job and work hard at it. It may differ from your free world profession, but make the best of it.

Find ways to grow: Nurture your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health:

1) Learn a creative hobby.

2) Read the classics of spiritual and world literature. Read something besides novels. Consider reading the Bible, Koran, Talmud, Bhagavad Gita, Dhammapada, Upanishads, and so forth. Study self-help, metaphysical, or ageless wisdom literature. In this way, you can learn to understand yourself better, understand the larger view of human evolution and the universe in which we live, understand the deeper psychological and spiritual aspects of personal transformation, and learn to train yourself to be of service to others.

3) Educate yourself. Consider psychological, self-help, spiritual, or vocational correspondence courses. Earn a GED or other educational diploma or certificate. If you have a degree, take courses, if available.

4) Attend church services and Bible studies. You will find that the Christian path is deep, profound, and capable of bringing total renewal and transformation to your heart and mind. However, this requires that you really understand the teachings, understand who Christ truly is, and that you let both the Christ and his teachings deeply into your heart.

5) Attend groups who are studying Buddhist teachings such as Tibetan Buddhism or Zen. The Buddhist teachings of all lineages offer the most profound path to transformation and awakening. If you are diligent in studying and practice you will gain deep insight into the exact causes of unhappiness and suffering, you will learn how to transform your perception of reality so as to end your confusion and suffering, and ultimately you will awaken your heart and mind with wisdom and compassion, bringing benefit to all beings.

6) Attend meditation groups. The practice of meditation is by far one of the single most powerful practices you can do for personal transformation and awakening. Meditation helps you to know yourself at the deepest levels of your being. It has also been proven to be an excellent practice for emotional and mental stability and reducing stress.

7) Join civic clubs (e.g. Jaycees, NAACP, etc.), if available.

8) Learn to play a musical instrument.

9) Learn to exercise regularly. Your institutional meals may not be satisfying, so you may want to balance that factor in positive and healthy ways. Discipline yourself to not overeat; not eating too much is a major factor in creating and maintaining good health. If it is available, eat as much raw, uncooked foods as you can (salads, vegetables, etc.). Cut down on your intake of meat and eat more vegetables or grains. Take care of your health, medical facilities will not be extensive. Get your sleep and rest.

Take charge of your recovery:

1) Request therapy, if available. Most programs have waiting lists based on parole eligibility. Show significant interest in participation. Sometimes it can help in getting enrolled.

2) Study self-help literature. It is available by mail.

3) Join a self-help group, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Sexaholics Anonymous, or start one if none are available.

4) Perform an honest evaluation of your psychological (emotional and mental) maturity. Your psychological identity may have been very difficult to discuss in your regular life setting. But you must look at this seriously as you study your offending behavior. Be honest with yourself; you will be happier.

Plan for your release:

1) Begin planning as soon as possible, but no later than six months before your release date.

2) Line up treatment, therapy, a support group, and/or a place where you gather with others for your spiritual practice.

3) Locate potential housing.

4) Make plans for transportation which may include obtaining a driver's license.

5) Locate employment or employment services.

6) Be realistic about employment possibilities. Consider your energy levels as you make these plans. You have not been accustomed to a real world work place. Know your emotional limitations; know your physical limitations. You may have many parts of your life you are putting back together besides work. Don't overwhelm yourself with a heavy work load at first.

7) Plan to take care of yourself first. Once that is done, you will be in better position to help others.

I have a friend in Southhampton CC also. The visits are not too bad its the line waiting outside in all kind of weather i dont like but if that is what it takes to see him it is worth it. My baby is at Southhampton CC. The visits are not so bad sometimes you get more than an hour. I think the new warden will do some good and make some changes.

My husband is at Deep Maedows in Powatan. I haven't gotten to visit b/c he is being classified. I live in Madison Co. with my 2 babies and I work in Charlottesville. When I can visit, I could give someone a ride. I might also like to take turns driving.

My Husband was at Peumensand Creek Regional Jail in Bowling Green, VA. It was great for the visits. Just like visiting a hospital waiting room with TONS of toys for the kids. Of course that is the contact visits only, the non-contact are HORRIBLE!

My fiance is located at Pulaski Correctional Center. He has been there since June 24, 2004. I would love to speak with someone who might know something about this facility, because I believe they have infringed on his rights. I am new to this, due to the fact that I was a correctinal officer for several years until John stole my heart, so I gave up my career. I hope no one holds this against me. Dillwyn VA DWCC Hoping that he gets out soon. I have friends in Goochland and MCC. They let out two of my female friends that was in for non-violent crimes drugs, they did not know each other, lived different locations, VA and they passed to drug related deaths. I came to this website not just for me, for we, all of us. :( We all have a path. Know teens locked up also. Sad

My friend is currently in Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk, Va and will be moved to Indian Creek Correctional Center ( in Cheaspeake, Va) in a few months. I also have a brother in Nottaway Correctional Center. I live in Bladensburg, MD - 5 minutes from the Washington DC line. So the drive for me is about 2-3 hours.:)

I have finally found a friend that I have been searching for for years. He was just transfered from Lawrenceville to Lunenburg. Can someone tell me what the institution is like? What are the visitation procedures? Are there contact visits? Is it in a large room with many people? Can I send books, magazines, money or photos? Any information on this institution will be helpful. I drove all the way from Maryland to surprise him at Lawrenceville and was told that I had to change because I couldnt wear jeans. And was also informed that he was transfered to Lunenburg the day before. Not to mention that I had to stay in a hotel room overnight in Richmond because my car broke down. Three and a half hours of driving and $350 to be dissappointed.

Welcome to pto. I am glad you have found your way to such a great support forum. When i first came to pto the va forum was more active it has slowed down some. Va is a bad state for our loved ones to be incarcenrated in, I guess you know that there is no such thing as early release. There is a bill out there that may give us some hope to bring our loved ones home early lets pray that it will pass this time around.

Butter: my fiance is currently at indian creek. he has been there since march of this year. i dont think its that bad visitation wise, but for the inmates, unless they are ready to spend hours upon hours in "groups" its tough. my fiance is waiting to be transferred again which should happen in the next week or so. he hates it there but its very convenient for me. the guards were fine. they have to pass some type of test before they can get visits unless you are immediate family wife, mom, etc. i used to get to visitation at around 830-9 on sat and sun and i choose to leave between 1230-130 so that was always cool. let me know if you have anyother questions. My husband is in Sussex I he was shipped out of the local jail (aka h%ll) December 28, 2004. Do you know anything about that? Is it maximum or not? He is in for a probation violation but the jail couldnt find out why he was having chest pains and sent him off.

Hi I'm new and the last time I saw my brother was when I was in the 8th grade or about 14 years old. I'm twenty now and he was at Red Onion for an unarmed robbery charged, then a a correctional officer made some accusation about force he used and he was moved to Red Onion. Now, he's back at Wallens Ridge and I'm going to see him for the first time pretty soon. I'm going to be a criminal defense lawyer for people like my brother and the 18 yr. old young woman named Joanna who's in prison for a possession charge but it was in her house and not on her person. I don't think the system works to the advantage of the people with less influence and leans more towards the people and children of people with the money. I'm going to start off as a public defender because it starts there and hopefully I can prevent 18 yr olds and 20 somethings from having their adolescence ripped out of their hands because they are to be made an example by the attorney general or judge of that state.GOOD LUCK!!! I am trying to improve the conditions at the Roanoke City Jailin VA. I think the guards that are in charge of rules there are Nazis. They make the rules and break them when ever they want. They have a doctor there that doesnt do nothing for the inmates. They threatened to put me in jail because I was arguing with a guard over an opinion. I have never been in any kind of trouble. I have been told to shut up, stop and told that I could only visit for 10 minutes cause time was running out and I had been there since 7 pm and it was 9:10 pm when I got in and only 2 groups had been in. They didnt start visitation til 8pm and this is an everyday thing down there. They beat the inmates til they beg for them to stop and then they laugh at them and make fun of them. This jail had a guard smuggling in cocaine in Sept 2004, a man died there the weekend before Thanksgiving and then the Wednesday before Christmas they released the wrong inmate. Yet the governor, congressman, city manager, delegate and mayor tell me NOTHING can be done. Now his 10 and 11 year old boys live with their mother whose boyfriend threatened to kill them Christmas eve and the guard told him he can do NOTHING. He was sent to Sussex I in eastern VA Dec 28, for a probation violation, for breaking into his own apartment. I support you, something needs to be done for the people who fall through the cracks. My husband had a public defender and he could seem to care less. I should have gotten my dad to get him a lawyer. Any advice on this?

my fiance was transferred to his final destination for the next 3.5 years.he is at lawrenceville now.he was at sussex 1.that was a level 5.he is in a level 3 now.he likes it alot better than the last one.it is a privatly owned facility. it is far from me but i am happy if he is.

my fiance went to sussex 1 from vb jail. it was awful i felt like i was more shell shocked than he was at first. he was locked up 23 out of 24 hours a day and during that one hour sometimes he was allowed to try to call me if he couldnt or i didnt answer then that was too bad. visitation was ok! i only drove 1 1/2 hours to see him and i went every saturday but only some guards would let me stay over the hour time limit. hopefully if you are coming from farther away then you will be able to stay longer. is he doing his whole bit at sussex or is it just for reception? my fiance was only there for reception so that was good. it did take them FOREVER to get my paperwork processed i think it was like 4-6 weeks before i got to see him...stay on top of them if you have to wait for that ok. good luck to you both and let me know if you have any other questions. i hope i was of some help to you!!!

My husband just got to Sussex I. Like you I live far away. I did a mapquest thing and it said it is 4.4 hours away. Or 233 miles away. I live in Southwestern VA and was wondering where you are at. They took my husband out of the city jail at 4:30am and they continued telling me that he was still in jail until after 9 pm that night. According to the UN standard minumum rules for the treatment of prisoners...they were suppose to notify his spouse or nearest relative or other of the transfer IMMEDIATELY. I dont think that 16.5 hours is immediate!

I have learned now that justice isnt justice and the law is not what I had always thought it was and I cant believe some of the things that go on in jails and prisons. :) My dear husband has been incarcerated for four years. Each year on his birthday another year passes. Actually we are approaching the 4th year in February. He was in Petersburg City Jail first, then Riverside Regional Jail a few miles from Petersburg, then he was transferred to receiving in South Hampton Virginia, next he was moved to Greensiville Correctional Center and now he is in Baskerville Correctional Center. He is my heart. I haven't missed too many visits within that 4 years. We have 2 more years to go. We are truly soul mates and I am eternally grateful to have him in my life. My brother Joey is locked up at the Virginia Beach Jail. All he ever tells me is how half the food they get is rotten, there is no medical help at all (he has wisdom teeth about to break through his regular teeth and no one will see him) and how people constantly threaten him and no one does anything. I think its sad that they treat these people like they are less than human. I mean he hasnt even been convicted of a crime, yet he is treated less than human. He was denyed bail even tho he has never been in any trouble before - the judge handed the paperwork to the bailif before the witnesses were even heard. Its ridiculous. Anyone elses loved one at this jail?

My brother is currently incarcerated at James River CC. He was sent there after being convicted of killing his estranged ex-girlfriend. He is the second man in my life serving time. The first being the love of my life. My brother was given 10 years. He has to do 85%. Virginia's judical system sucks. It is a sad situation when an accident takes someone's life, but it is an even sadder situation for the offender to live with the guilt.

My son is at Kenne Mtn he has been there about 15 months now.He has not had any trouble there. He says that you just need to stay away from gangs and mind your own bussiness.
The prison sits on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. There isnt a motel there in the community but there is one about 12 to 15 miles away in Clay pool Hill.The prison isnt hard to find. there is a sign right where you need to turn.
Visitation there isnt bad I havent run into any trouble except one time that was when he first went there. The visiting room is always full and very loud. Always call before you drive there to make sure they are not on lockdown. If your son knows that you are coming and they have lockdown they will ask if they need to call anyone.They have lockdown often.Most ot the guards are very nice. Be sure and follow the dress code I have seen people turned away.

Call The Prison! Most of them I believe you can. However, where my husband is, they use the even/odd system. If the last number of the DOC number is an even number, then you will visit on the day that is an even number (My husband is even, so I will see him this Sunday on the 16th). The same goes for odd. The rule also applies for holidays. If New Years Eve falls on Saturday, then they will treat New Years Day (1st) like it is an even day. They will take turns for Christmas. This year the odds will have it, next year the evens will have it. So please call the prison just to make sure...

Virginia allows inmates to get care packages twice a year. The first one is around Easter, and the second one is around the Christmas holiday. There can be many reasons why you have not heard from your friend. He could be out of paper, stamps, etc. Or if he has just been moved there from another facility it could take a while for them to get his money on his books. His first transfer was to Deep Meadow Correctional Center, which was about 25 minutes from me in State Farm, VA (right next to Powhatan Correctional Center).. I was so happy when he got moved to Deep Meadow, and 4 months later, I moved only 25 min from him, and week and half later, they transfered him an hour away... He gets home in 5 months 4 weeks & 1 day.. I cannot wait!

My husband is at Augusta Correctional Center right now. However, he is trying to get moved to Baskerville (I believe it's called) next year because he qualifies for a 1 high. Does anyone know anything about Baskerville? How is the visitation and so forth? All info will be greatly appreciated...

My husband was just moved to Lawrenceville Correctional Center which is about 6 hours away. We (my daughter & I) went to see him for the first time since he was moved there the trip was long, my daughter and I were exhausted and after a 6 hour drive and a two hour wait in line we finally got a one hour visit...no extended visits due to the crowd this past weekend. I hated it...to drive so far with a 1 1/2 year old only to have to turn around and drive back home after visiting for only an hour. We couldn't afford a motel and will be lucky if we can afford the gas to go see him once a month instead of what was weekly visits. Why does the DOC move your loved ones so far away? ARGH!!!

My mother is in Goochland correctional center. Better than New River Valley Regoional Jail but definately not the Hilton!!!!

Hi, Im new at this, so I hope this is right. My son is at Lunenburg. He was transfered there from Lawrenceville which was ok. I haven"t visited there yet & probably wont since he'll be home in 5 months after a 51 month sentence. Its been a long haul. Sorry I only found this site a few weeks ago & its been great reading about all of your loved ones & knowing theres people out there just like me.

My boyfriend left Lawrenceville nearly two years ago, he moved down the street to Brunswick. Nothing has currently changed regarding SB805 for the good conduct allowance. The 2006 session convenes on January 11th! Hopefully since Virginia has this new governor we can get this passed. It was passed to a committee for review. Let's all pray because this will be a blessing for many! Best of luck to you.

They moved my hubby to Deep Meadow today. Ugggggg! Now I have to travel 3 1/2 hours one way instead of 1 1/2. Anyone know the best way to get there from 81 South? I'm coming from WV.

No one I've talked to knows anything about where he's going or how long it might take to even talk to him again. What is the "average" time that it takes to go thru medical & classification? And are thongs ok to wear at visits?

At Brunswick the inmates where jeans so visitors are not allowed to wear denim blue period. I have never been asked if I have a thong on. It may all depend on where he is located.

well, I've just found out that he's been transferred to the Mecklenburg center but I still don't know about wearing a thong.....they've only told me that I will be strip searched and can't wear any shirts or pants/skirts/dresses that are too revealing. Also what is up with the phone calls?........ I don't understand what's going on & why MCI has to call me three times a day for five days before I get to talk to him. I just hope that I;ll be able to see him this weekend since everything I've heard about Mecklenburg sounds bad. I've seen him every Saturday since he's been sentenced in July and had everything setup just right for him at the regional jail. I could put money on his books every week and knew that he would have enough for necessities plus some extra stuff. I've gotten him setup to receive magazines. Plus he had not only a job but a class and was a tutor for another class at the jail. I just feel so frustrated :angry: from all this mainly cuz I was told by DOC and the jail that he wouldn't be moved cuz he's got a work release date. I'm sorry if I'm venting but I haven't been able to talk with anyone about this and have been getting know where with the powers to be. If anyone here has any info on what to expect, please let me know. :confused:

ive never been asked about having on a thong but
as far as MCI that is what the recording says when he is trying to add you to his list
just follow the prompts and you will be added
if you have done this and he cant get through you may want to call mic and ask them to check if you have a block (this could be for a great amount of different reasons)
make sure to change the address on the magazines i had to do the same when Man was transferred

I tried all that but they say his calls can't get thru cuz it's a cell phone. Any words of wisdom from anyone?

Mecklengberg only pats down, or used too. They will turn you away if your skirt is too short (they use a ruler) and if they find you wearing a thong. I was turned away for a pair of skorts after a 4 1/2 hour drive. I had to go to Walmart a couple of miles away and buy shorts. Also if you wear a sweater or coat into the visiting room you must keep it on even if you get hot. I have never been strip searched, but they can if they want. Dress conservatively and you should be ok.

Thanks so much for both of you helping with this. It's just been so overwhelming to found out how lazy & corrupt this state's system really is. :)

I forgot to mention that they have vending machines, so take change (not bills). You may be able to put it in a clear ziplock or small clear bag. I never tried that there, but I know coffeewood allowed us to use anything clear. I had a small clear makeup bag. Call and ask them.

My finace is in Sussex II in Waverly, Virginia.

My boyfriend is in the detention/diversion programs. He is currently in the Southampton Detention Center.

What is Augusta like? That is one of the places David might go. I'm really hoping he goes back to Coffeewood. That was one of the better prisons. He may be a level 3 though, so I'm hoping Augusta because it's the closest to me here in WV.

Today is a sad day at our house. Looks like she is going to be going to Fluvanna. I dont know if thats just for intake or if she is going to stay there. She said the Judge wrote a pretty nasty letter. Sigh..... I feel like I have been hit in the heart with a bolt of lightning. I am hoping at least they will get her medical care now. She last saw her doctor in October, had a sonogram in November, went to jail on December 9 and hasnt seen a doctor the whole time she has been in jail. Shes going to be 6 months pregnant pretty soon and I am so worry about her and baby. She also has Hepatitis C and hasnt had the test to see how bad her liver is... So another worry. Its gonna be a long 3 years. I know she has 85% so guess its going to be a long 2.55 years. Anyone having any information on any/all the womens prisons I would appreciate if you share. I have read some horrible stuff about Fluvanna ... some days it just doesnt pay to be literate. :(

It all depends on who's there. Personally I can't wait until he moves. The next time he goes for his annual, he'll be eligible for a 1 high so he's trying to go to Baskerville. It's a work camp with less than 1 or 2 hundred people...

Ohhhhh..great. LOL. I'm hoping they give him a 2 again this time and he goes back to Coffeewood. If he ends up 3 Aug. is the closest to me here in WV. Luckily he won't be where ever he goes for too long. His projected out is 11/27. By the time he processes out of Deep Meadow, he'll probably be down to about 6-8 months. I definitely can't wait!

I am trying to find someone who lives in the Hampton Roads Area that is wiling to share a ride to Augusta. Even if you ride pass the Hampton Roads Area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, New Port News, Suffulk, Chesapeake, etc.). I don't drive, but I am definatley willing to share the gas money. My Dutch is at Piedmont Regional jail in Farmville. My 17 yr old son is at RDC in Bon Air.

Well here is an update my husband is no longer in Red Onion they sent him to DC where I live for a trial then to Central Virginia Regional, from there he went to Roanoke City Jail and then off to New River Valley Regional Jail. Now he is currently MIA and no one knows where he is. If they released him to the US Marshalls shouldn't they be able to let me know where he is. I'll keep you guys posted.

Welcome to PTO and the Virginia Forum! I don't know a lot about Piedmont except that it is in Farmville. I suggest you call them and ask about visitation. There number is (434) 392-1601. Ask any and all questions. Is it contact visit or through the glass? Is there a dress code? How long are the visits? That kind of thing. I know when I talked to them recently, they were very patient and helpful. I actually like Piedmont, if that is possible. :)

My husband is in Deep Meadow. He was in Newport News City Farm. I don't know why they moved him. He told me he asked to be moved because he could earn more good time if he went to a prison instead of a place like City Farm. But that makes no sense to me. Don't you earn good time at the same rate no matter which place they have you in? He has lied to me so many time I don't know what to think. Does the DOC let you asked to be moved? And then move you where you want to go??? This is my first experience with this kind of thing. We have been married for 16yrs. But the last 4 have been HELL. He got hooked on Crack and our life went to pieces after that. He got sentenced in 3 citys for different reasons. 2 years in Portsmouth for parole violation (drugs), 1 1/2 years in cheaspeake for parole violation (drugs), and 1year in Newport News for Grand Larceny (he stole a car). That is a total of 4 1/2 years. We don't even know what his release date is and they tell me at the DOC that it will be 10-12 weeks more until we find out. He has been in jail since Aug. 27 2005. Can anyone tell me anything about how to figure out the release date? or Can they tell me if DOC lets you choose where you want to do your time? Any help would be great! I feel all alone in this situation. Our son is 15 and he would like to see his dad but now that he is in Deep Meadows that is 2 hours away from our house. Hello tmintz... Welcome to PTO... I do know that an inmate can put in a request for 3 prisons they would like to be sent to. It is completely up to DOC as to where they will put him. You earn good time at the same rate no matter where you are, 12 months and less are usually day for day, over 12 months are usually at 85%. Once he sentencing was complete, DOC has an average of 60 days to move you into the system, which they will do. From there they are sent into a classification prison, which is what Deep Meadows is. He probably won't pull his full sentence there. Once he gets processed and everything he will have an chance to pick out 3 prisons to be moved to. You and he both need to figure out which ones he sould shoot for. Usually within a few months he will be moved to one of these. I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch. My husband is in Cold Spring Correction Unit 10 in Greenville Virginia. He is only about 25 minutes away so I go and see him every Saturday and Sunday. Is there anyone else who knows someone in Greenville?

I don't have a loved one in a facility here (he's in Florida). I just moved here from Florida to stay with my parents for a little while due to financial trouble. It's hard, being in a new state, not knowing anyone, job hunting (which is NOT going well). I just came accross this site last week but it's good to know there are other people out there that can relate.

My brother is at Deep Meadows Correctional Center waiting on classification. He's been there for about 2 months now. Not sure where he will go from there. He has about 12 months left but has not been given an exact release date yet. Coffeewood would be the closest facility to our family and would eliminate the two hour drive we have every week but it's his safety we care about most. If anyone is familiar with this facility please let me know how it is.

I can tell you anything you need to know about Deep Meadow. It is one of the three classification centers. Guys stay there anywhere up to about 6 months waiting for classification and whatnot before being assigned to a permanent facility.

Visits are based on their DOC number and an Odd and Even swap each weekend. This weekend was even on Saturday and odd on Sunday. Starts at 8:30am and lasts an hour. You sit at tables and can get food from the vending machines.

I live in NC and I usually stay the night when I visit because its about a 5 hour drive or so. I have met some awesome people waiting to visit.

I don't know much about Powhatan other than where it is and how to get there. It is a classification center, but it does have a large permanent population as well. If you look in the Central Prison section, you will find some threads on Powhatan. This one http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210760 is a rather new one with some basic information. Please feel free to ask questions, someone will always be along to answer them. We are all in this together.

I live in Staunton va, 30 minutes from augusta correctional, 2 hours from richmond, . If anyone {females} is traveling in a great distance and needs a place to crash for a night, you can message me here. I will limit this to females only, and you must have membership here for a reasonable time, and have posted enough to gain entrance to chat. The room will not cost you, It bears no strings, and is 3 minutes from interstates 64 and 81, which puts you within 3 hours of most Va correctional centers.
Any MEN that desire to stay here will have to really come with good refferences from a few girls on here.

There are only 2 level 5's in Virginia. Of the two, Sussex 1 is better and no they can't bring anything. As for the shoes.... you buy your "bobos" when you get there!

My fiance' is in Riverside Regional Jail- but he has been in Sussex II for a while and then he went to Pamunkey for about 18 months and now he is in Riverside Regional Jail in Hopewell- and in July he is going to the Harrisonburg men's Diversion center and the the Harrisonburg men's Detention Center for 20 weeks each :( I miss him SO bad- it sucks not being able to touch him and hold him for so much longer. Welcome to PTO! Glad you found us! Riverside Regional has their own website - http://www.riversideregionaljailva.net/ and they house a lot of the people from the surrounding counties. Since she only has 9 months, she will not be transferred into DOC, but will stay local. Lucky for you it means cheaper calls and shorter distance for visits. I know their visit schedule is kind of odd so I would contact them and see how it works. We will keep our fingers crossed she gets work release.

hello everybody my husband is currently in county in a little town called haysi va waiting over 3 months now to be transferred into doc

It took them over a year to move my hubby into DOC. Lets hope they move yours soon. It's much easier for them to get into a groove once they get moved.

let me correct myself he has been in county for a year on the 20th of jan. but got sentenced on oct. 4 i called doc yesterday and they say they dont have anything on him. so i called the courthouse and they say the papers were faxed about 2 weeks after he was sentenced. its very hard because i am 7 hours away and living with his mom with our 14 month old son and we have only got to see him 2 times for 15 minutes:( :( he only has a little over 7 months to go so is it possible that they will leave him in county until his release? i talked to a lady at the jail and she say it is up to doc because he was sentenced to 2 years but that it was possible she said she had seen some inmates stay in county their whole sentence and then some would go into doc with only 2 or 3 months left. we were really looking forward to him going to doc because he hasnt got to hold his son since he was 2 months old:( and its sad to say that his son really doesnt know him except pics:( nor does he know his son besides what i tell him about him!!!

I am new to this however my fiancee is at Boutetourt in Trouteville. Any of you have a loved one there? I am in Fredericksburg and travel there at least every other weekend.
His mandatory is 03-2009. The drive is over 3 hours from family and loved ones. Can anyone offer me direction on a hardship transfer as his parents are in poor health and cannot travel to visit him. His record is unblemished in the 11+ years he has been down....please advise.

In the meantime, I'll keep you both (and his parents) in my thoughts and pray that you're able to get him transferred somewhere closer.

As soon as he sees the doctor he is cleared, they just neglect to tell him that.

HI, I'm Jenn, I'm new here! My fiance, Sean, is at CCADC right now. He has 3 charges pending against him right now. Botertourt Co- Grand Larceny of a vehicle, Campbell Co- receiving that SAME vehicle as stolen property, Amherst Co- Grand Larceny of a car trailer. He has trial dates set up for May 1st, April 30th, and May 21st (jury trial), respectively. The cases are all BS! I mean come on! How can you charge/convict someone of stealing and receiving the same piece of property?!?!?! That right there tells you the prosecution is REACHING!!! ANYWAY, all we can do is PRAY and keep each others spirits up! Any support or related stories or info on any of these counties is GREATLY appreciated!

My name is Nancy and I have a son who recently was moved from Chesapeake City jail to a DOC facility (Deep Meadow
Correctional Center). I knew it was just a matter of time before he'd be taken into DOC custody when the judge revoked
his probation and sentenced him to 3 years 6 months. I'd kept hoping that he'd have to do a few months and then be back
on supervised probation again, this was a technical violation, he did not "catch" any new charges. I have been trying to find
information for my son about filing a habeas corpus (someone who had worked as a lawyer's assistant told him that he should
be able to file one). Brian told me yesterday that he's done some research at the law library at Deep Meadow and that he believes
he can file the habeas and should be released. (Unfortunately, we do not have the money to hire a good attorney.) Back in Oct. 2002,
he'd been in court for a violation; according to transcripts "condition 6 with a special condition that he pay restitution for extradition
from FL.) He was given a continuance until Dec. to give him time to pay; which he did (or rather, I paid). Then in Dec. the case was
continued until Jan. 2003 because "his" judge was not available. At the Jan. hearing, his court appointed atty. reminded the judge
of the special condition and that the judge had said when he gave the special condition about restitution that if it were paid, he would
probably release Brian from supervised probation; well, the judge said that he did not remember saying that and that if he had, he
was in error and he was not going to do that. Brian's court appointed atty. didn't push the judge too hard. The judge re-suspended
his sentence 3y 6m and kept him on indefinite supervision probation. Brian didn't do anything legally to try to have his supervised
probation lifted (didn't really think about it until he had to go back to court). He was in court again in May 2005 for another violation,
he admitted using marijuana to his PO and he missed a couple of appointments. He went to detention and diversion for 10 months and
again was placed on supervised probation for 3y 6m. His next visit in front of the judge was in Mar. 2007 for another technical violation;
missing meetings again. He got 3y 6m with 3 years suspended (stayed in Chesapeake city jail for 6 mos.). His last violation was in Jan. 2008;
he'd been charged with driving on a suspended license and failed to inform his PO (although, technically, he did not have a PO at the time because
his probation was in the process of being transferred from Chesapeake to Hampton). When his new Hampton PO did contact him and
schedule a meeting, Brian didn't make it due to work, rescheduled and again didn't show up. He did go to the PO's office and missed his
PO by about ten minutes, but then didn't go back when he was supposed to because he'd told them about his arrest for driving on a suspended
and they'd told him he was violated. He ended up in jail in Newport News on Halloween for driving on a suspended, they of course kept him
because by that time he'd been violated and there was a capias from Chesapeake.
This whole probation mess stems from a charge, 3rd offense larceny (Three Strikes law applied) because a friend of his stole some beer
and Brian drove the truck away from the store; so he was charged with receiving stolen property; he was sentenced to 5 years with 4y 6m
suspended (this was in 1998) because of the 3 strikes law.
I hope I haven't rambled too much. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated. Thanks for "listening".

My fiance is in Red Onion State and I just moved to San Antonio, TX. Im new to this and wondering if anyone knows if there is a super max in Texas. I can't find anything and we want him transfered.

Yes, Texas has SuperMax, all states do. Getting a transfer is really hard to do and you need to find someone in the other state that wants to come to Virginia and you have to pay all expenses. I don't want to sound discouraging but I know many people have tried and eventually gave up.

How long have you been engaged? Did you meet in prison? I don't know much about hardship transfers. If he's been there for 11 years, why are you new to this?

He has been there for 8 weeks today (which breaks my heart), he is awaiting a move to a DOC Facility, but hears it could take many months. He will serve 21 months, but he was told that 4 1/2 days per month come off for good behavior (so hoping that is true) that would bring it to 17 months still way too long!!!

Just wondering how you made it through 4 years. I only have 6 days under my belt. I miss him so much. I cant stop crying. We are getting back together when he gets out but how do you fill the empty spot in your gut. I dont want anyone else! He phones me and we talk but I just want him back. I have seen him twice on Thursday which is his visitation day. The not touching him sucks. Thanks Brenda:(

welcome Brenda. While it doesn't get easier, you do learn to handle it better. First, you are not in there, he is. We also enter our own prison when they go in, but you can't stop your life out here. Take good care of you since you are all you have now. When you take care of you, then you are able to help take care of him.

I know I was so lost and cried for three days straight until I found PTO. I found answers and support and some laughs mixed in with some really good advice. No one else can understand this road we walk. You may lose some friends and you darn sure lose some monthly money! My best advice is to take it one day at a time. You don't have to see the whole staircase, you just have to take that first step and have faith for the next one. No matter what, the members of PTO are here to help you take that first step and all the other ones after that. ((((((hugs))))))

My Husband is in Bristol Va City jail waiting to get transferred he says it sucks there the visits are awful you get 1 visit a week for 20-30 min. That really sucks especially when I take our 3 kids with me and they dont understand why Daddy can't stay and talk longer

My man is in Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Winchester Virginia. He has been gone for 6 months, and still has 1 1/2 to go. I miss him so bad, so do our kids. Does anyone know how much time they knock off for the points you are given (for passing room inspection and stuff like that) and for working in the jail? Thanks!

I'm not too sure about that particular center but I know working in the city jail will earn you a day off your sentence for each week worked.

joey is at caroline correctional unit in hanover county. The prison is physically located in dawn, virginia, but hardly anyone has ever heard of that!

I'm in northern virginia so it's an hour and 45 minute drive, which isn't bad at all!

erikam - Welcome to PTO and the Virginia forum! The post from uaelremop (Jen) is from way back in May 2003. I'm not sure she's even around these forums anymore. Carpools seem to be hard to get set up but maybe if you post something in the regional forum where his prison is (Eastern Region, Central Region, Western Region forums are near the bottom of the main page for the Virginia forum) you'll have better luck.

My baby is currently in Marion he was at Pulaski but a group of like 17 inmates were selected to go do some renovations at the prison with the possibility of getting to come closer to home once it is complete. It was to be a 3-6 month stay but who knows. Hopefully he will be closer soon it is a 7 hour drive now.

my husband is in pocahontas state ,i dont get there very often im in Pa and its a 9 hour drive. I just do what ever I can to help him, but lately he is not in the greatest of moods at calls, we have a very long time to go yet at least another 8 years, its already been two and I am just taking one day at a time.

nithtmare, welcome to PTO and the VA forum. You will be greatly suprised that you are NOT alone. There are many of us in the same boat and it is so great to have somewhere to go to discuss our issues and concerns. You will find lots of good information and support here. I personally don't have anyone at Dillwyn, but I am sure someone will come along. It may help to go over to the Virginia Prisons site and go into the Central Virginia Prisons, you will find that Dillwyn is in that location and may find some help over there. I have a loved one in NCC. He gets out in 6 years. My trip only takes about 2 hrs. so it's not to bad. Just want him to come home sooner than later!:( I'm excitred about this site. It seems to be helpful already!:)

My Husband is at Augusta Correctional Center in Craigsville Va he is 2hours and 30minutes away ..i still go every weekend. Even the weekend I have to work..i get up at 4am leave by 5:30 get there by 8 and leave at 12 so i can make it to work by 2pm. Next year they are changing Augusta from a 2,3 level prison to a 4 level so My Hubby will have to be transferred to another facility..i hope its not 4 or 6hrs away. Ill only be able to see him everyother weekend. :(

Hubby was at Augusta until Dec 2006. It was a long drive for me too.
I hear ya about the drive. More than once hubby has been 4 hrs one way. I would have to get up at 2 am and leave at 4 to make first group.

I wish he would have gotten into the dumb trouble he got into in any other county, do not get in trouble in this county so you wont have to go to this dirty corrupt jail. They make prisoners eat roach filled leftovers and also sleep on cold floors without blankets and they listen in on private phone calls.

I cant do anything for fear of him getting more time, we have kids and I have Cancer and its breaking my heart! And I have no friends or family I can talk to about him even being in there :confused:

Nor can I find a prison advocate, did they all disappear?

my husband is at pococahontas the gaurds are nice to the visitors, and the place is very clean not much inmate trouble at this place, no fights and stuff like that. its a very strick place they run it like its level 5 even though its a 3 so tell him he needs to fly under radar with some of the the gaurds they like to write you up for stupid stuff and if they think you are a trouble maker they will write you up and transfer you to a higher level. most inmates dont like it there as they run a tight ship, and they as inmates have very little to do no organized sports and not much rec. time, so time goes slow. the area is very rural not much for a visitor to do in the town of bluefield this is the nearest hotels you can visit both sat and sun let me know what other ? you have, and if you ever just want to talk im here.

my husband is in greensville :love2: im trying to find out more information on good time and early release and a bill that is suppose to be passed giving a reduction in time any one knows:confused:

Unfortunately the bills introduced this year were all killed so we are stuck with serving 85% of the sentence.

But my Boyfriend was in Sussex County Jail for 4 1/2 months and the CO told him since he was so well behaved and stuck to himself and had a somewhat short sentence(18 months) he could go to the work farm down the street, so he put his name on the list along with 4 other people and told he most likely he would go in the next two weeks. Well long story short during those two weeks he was taken to MECKELNBURG CC for intake and classification. I visited him the first weekend I could and it was a nice visit overall no problems from anyone! This is all new to me so I have to get used to it all, I cant wait for him to be out so he can finish college and begin his dreams ( YES HE WAS IN COLLEGE, and the judge still put him in jail for a non violent crime)!! He met with his counselor and he put in to go to all work farms, yes he loves to work and make money!! So hopefully he gets transferred somewhere closer because MCC is 2 1/2 hours away!



Anything we go through will make us Stronger!

Out of all the places I have visited MCC is the best. I have never had a problem. I also think it is 2 1/2 hours away from everything lol!!!!:)
