View Full Version : Resource Guide - Beginning Stages
xlinda_jbx 05-16-2003, 10:09 AM As part of a project I'm undertaking as moderator, I plan to put together as comprehensive resource guide as I can on resources. Ideas have been coming to me on a daily basis, but since this is your forum I'd like to hear about any programs, organizations, companies that have been of help to you and your loved ones. Since I'm just starting to take "baby steps," I'm not yet sure whether this will be in the format of another forum or something else. Bear with me and I'll keep you posted as I go along. Thanks in ad***ce for your input, suggestions, etc. Take care.

xlinda_jbx 05-16-2003, 09:46 PM Dear Softie:
I'm interested in employment-related resources. My ultimate goal is to gather everything in one place. Am not sure yet if it will be a separate forum or what. Anything you can provide would be appreciated. Will you come to my rescue? I know you're good at that. Thanks and take care.
softheart 05-16-2003, 10:26 PM amee I will email you the list this week. I am not sure how much help it will be with only 3 weeks to go, but you will have it.
By the way CONGRATULATIONS on your boyfriend coming home.
Linda I will send it to you this week. rescue...lol...you do a wonderful job on your own.
Wait until you see the list and how long it is and the fact you will have to seperate what you want and don't want.....lol

ginger90044 08-09-2003, 01:58 PM Hi Linda,
In the state of California the Employment Development Department (EDD) has job counselors that help individuals with criminal records locate employment opportunities. As part of their job performance these job counselors are expected to secure 70 jobs per years.
Each individual shoud contact the EDD in their state and make an appointment with this type of counselor.
If anyone does not have their High School Diploma or GED I strongly suggest they start working towards it.
I know three people who had felonies and obtained good jobs. One earns $100,000 per year. They all advised me to be honest when filling out job applications. Until my situation happened I had no clue these people had been convicted of a crime.
One other source is to locate other's who have criminal records and are employed. Through a newspaper artical I read about a man with a criminal past who started his own janitorial company after working for one when he was released from prison. I saved the artical and I will be contacting him soon.

ginger90044 08-12-2003, 05:09 PM Hello Linda:
A couple of months ago I found these people in Los Angeles, CA. They are called TheWorkPlace.
Web address: Theworkplaceca.com
phone: 213-386-1994
They specialize in assisting ex-offenders and parolees obtain training and employment. They provide the prospective employer with all the information for getting the $2400.00 tax break, and bonding if needed. Unfortunately they were not able to help me because I was not sentenced to prison. I believe they have other office within the state of California.

dvam1 11-05-2003, 09:51 AM Linda,
Can I get a copy of the guide as well ? I have been out of prison for over 20 years and suddenly I am unemployed again. Because I was convicted of a non-expungeable crime under New Jersey state law, I find it difficult to obtain employment. In the past I have been blessed to work for 2 companies for a total of 18 yrs who were accepting of my past and earned $70,000 yearly.
I have been unemployed for 8 months and am at my wits end. Any information you can provided would be greatly appreciated. My email is (e-mail address removed per PTO policy - member may be contacted via Private Messaging on PTO)
softheart 11-06-2003, 09:25 AM Linda is no longer working on this project at the moment. If you want the resource list I have, which is several different resources not just employment, Please do not place your email here, we at PTO have a policy of not placing emails in threads. Please PM me and I will be happy to send it to you.
