Its been all over the news and in newpapers in surrounding states that Idaho is negotiating contracts to move inmates out of state. As of now they are almost 600 inmates over the capacity in the prison alone. From what I am hearing they are trying to enlarge space at the private prison by 300 beds. Not sure how or where that will work out. I know that earlier in the year 152 inmates vollunteered to transfer out of state, but even if ICC gets the extra 300 beds that will still leave another 150 who have to be moved out of state.

At one time they talked about moving inmates to MN, TX and NM. Not sure if those offers are even still on the table with all the hurricanes and other prisons moving inmates.

If anyone hears anything please post here

Oh nooooooooo!!!!!!!

I am so sorry. I hope that they decide NOT to ship out of state. I have seen what it does to the families and the inmates. This is not good.

What I heard is that they will most likely ship out of state inmates who have longer sentences.
I believe its not in their best interest to ship someone who will have a parole hearing next year, because they'll have to ship them back to Idaho in a short period of time.

That is likely be what happens. As well as certain custody levels. I dont know for sure, but it seems I heard only certain custody levels can go

I heard a bit about this on the radio this morning. Unless I misunderstood them, they said they had to get rid of the beds from Idaho State Correctional Institute. Other than that the only time I have heard of it was on here.

When Chris was at ISCI they were adding extra beds, but that was a temp thing. Something about a old law suit that might block them from being able to add the beds. Chris has been gone from ISCI for quite a while so I dont know if what you heard is the same as what was going on when he was over there, but it sounds like it might be.

Your probably right because they did mention something about an eighteen year old law suit. But they did mention that Idaho was in talks with some other states bout moving inmates. The media just needs to clarify things better.

I've read several differant things about moving inmates, but as of yet I havnet heard what states they are negotiating with. I have contact information for the move coodinater so I will try contacting him and sew what he knows. He may not know anything at this point, but he may be able to clear up what the criteria is for those being considered

Here are the questions I emailed him

1) What is the criteria for picking inmates to transfer out of state? Clearly if they don't have enough volunteers the DOC will have to start picking who goes and who stays. Such as is there certain custody levels or ones who have a certain amount of time before parole hearings?

2) It has been mentioned that ICC may be able to add beds to prevent the full 600 from having to move out of state. Is that something that can be done soon enough or will the entire 600 have to move and come back when ICC has more room?

3) At one time it was mentioned that the three states involved in moves would be TX, MN and NM. Are those still the states on the table or are there other options involved?

4) Do we have any idea of when these moves will take place?

5) Once its decided how much notice will the inmates who are leaving have before they go? Not asking if they will know the exact date, but will they know far enough in advance to give families time to get visits in before leaving

I know that until contracts are signed nothing is set in stone on any of this, but is there any kind of possible or probables that you could provide. Something to help prepare the families for what is to come.

Here is his response

I. Offenders must be not less than two years to a parole hearing date of full term completion date. They must be min restricted or medium custody. Offenders with significant medical problems will not be considered.

2. The Idaho legislature controls the building of additional space. Evan with their blessing the beds can not be built soon enough to stop out of state transfers.

3. It is my understand that the three states cited are the ones still under consideration.

4.I would imagine sometime within the next two months.

5. Inmates will be notified before they leave. I do not know at this time how far in advance of the move.

Do you know if they allow inmates to volunteer to be moved and do they consider an inmate's family or possible hardship if they were moved?

If they do it like they planned a few months ago they will ask for volunteers first. Several months ago they had 200 volunteers. I would like to think that when they run out of volunteers and have to start sending people they take family situations into consideration. That is a question I didnt ask yesterday, but if we have more questions I can get back to him

BOISE -- Idaho prison officials are negotiating with officials in Texas, Minnesota, and Louisiana for space to house inmates.

Idaho's prisons are too crowded. Last week, a federal judge ordered officials to remove nearly 200 beds from a packed Boise prison by October 28th.

I knew that TX and MN were on the table, but I had no idea that LA had any room for out of state inmates with thier recent problems. They have their own inmates to bring back into the state that were moved when the hurricanes hit. I cant even imagine them taking in other states inmates.

  they can't move the inmates, it is hard already on my two year old son. he has not seen his dad, and will not get to if they move him.tell he gets out in 2019. man it is hard enough, on people to see them and know they are moving them, they need to make the prison bigger if they are planning on locking more people up:angry:
