:help: ok the prison my boyfriend is at is howard r young -aka- gander hill ( like changing the name makes it sound better) i was hoping someone could help with a few questions i have about this place because the web site for it tells me nothing at all ok questions 1) how often are they allowed to use the phone and for how long 2) if being transferred from the old wing to the new wing how long does it take for them to get a bed there 3) does participating in activites and holding a job position really reduce the sentance any and usually by how much 4) do they have an account for their money or do they hold on to it ( im fearfull that he will get robbed in prison and if they have an account for him i will just dump a load of cash in there for him instead of sending small amounts at a time ) 5) if for any reason i dont hear from him through phone or letter for ahile is there someone i can call to make sure that he is ok 6) come christmas and birthday am i allowed to send him gifts 6) am i allowed to send stamps to him or does he have to purchase them there
i know this is alot of questions but i am totally clueless and his lawyer is no help:angry: at all finding anything out she says she does not even have a sentancing report so that is still pretty unclear to us as to what it was  so any help woulde be greatly appreciated
thanks maggie

Maggie,

I can only answer a few of your questions...you may have already gotten your answers.

The phone calls are 15 minutes. Once a week, I believe.

The money is in an account, he will not be handling cash. At DCC $500 is the MAX, don't know about Gander Hill (I agree with the name change).

He has to buy stamps himself through the commissary.

No gifts, only letters and cards. Books through Amazon or the 9th Street Book store in Wilmington.

Getting a job not only helps with sentence reduction (don't know how much) but it helps with boredom, depression and wondering negative thoughts. Same with activities, the busier he is, the faster time will go.

I don't know who you'd call, tell him to go to chapel, then you can at least call the chaplin in emergencies.

Good luck and stay strong. Gander Hill is the pits. Will he ever be transferred to DCC? I like it much better in Smyrna.

Maddy

no he will never be sent to dcc we just recently got news about him going in to the life skills program (which i actually found info on and sounds fabulous) so we are pretty much hoping his sentace will be reduced to anywhere from 6 to 9 months thank you very very much for your help
