My cousin vacationed there and the mail can be slow at times. The visiting room is always full. He called often so that was nice.

Oh, I just can’t tell you how bogus that place is or how much I HATE it. My husband HATES it to. Rumors are spreading that they’re trying to convert all or part of the prison to ‘special needs’ so I hope they’ll send my husband somewhere ELSE. I can’t explain, but it’s petty and ridiculous. I will say that the COs who work visiting are USUALLY pretty nice – however the visiting room is overcrowded and people don’t know how to act right.

Hello,
My son has been at OF since March. This is our first and hopefully only experience with prison so we have nothing to compare it with but so far we have had no problems.
Regarding visiting: Maybe my expectations are low compared to other visitors but .... I have always been treated well by the visiting COs. I have never been hassled and to be able to see my son, sit outside and talk has been wonderful. Compared to stories of visitors camping in their cars overnight in line, OF seems relatively easy. I dress conservatively and try to avoid wearing things I will have to take off before going thru the metal detector like belts and large earrings. It takes awhile to get thru the visitor processing "process" but the "reward" is waiting for me in the visiting room!!! I continually joke with my son, thanking him for letting me have these new "experiences" I never knew I would be having.
If you would like more specifics on how visiting works, please PM me. I would be glad to share.
Regarding mail: I get letters FROM Folsom in 2 - 3 days. Letters TO Folsom can take 3 - 4 weeks. It helps to put their housing # as part of the address. You can call the prision and get his housing information (1-916-985-2561, select 1 - Inmate services/records).
Regarding Lockdowns: There was a lockdown recently that lasted from May 16 to mid July. That was hard on both of us. But since then only minor disturbances.
Regarding phone calls: I don't have much expereince with calls. My son has a job there, so there isn't much time for him to call me. Depending on where you live in relationship to the prison, Prison Calls Online may save you some money. You can get a quote from them online.
Hopely I have provided a little of the information about Folsom that you were looking for. If you need any additional information, please PM me. I will gladly answer anything I can for you.

My husband is there right now. We Hate it. For him to get my letters usually takes a month. I heard the Warden kept someone from getting a book without any reason. All the Co's contradict one another. Its not a fun place. My husband has been in the shu since May and they give him nothing but trouble. He didn't have any involvement with a situation but they are finding him guilty.

Yes. They like to find people guilty of bogus 115s there. It's amazing what those people at that prison get away with. Tell him to be careful - some of the admin are nothing but snakes.
