Trying to get some info from anyone that has done time at FPC Nellis in Las Vegas. i.e. things to watch out for, living conditions, perks, disadvantages, etc. I am going to try to go there if I get time so any info is appreciated. Thanks.

My husband has been at Nellis since October 2002. He hasn't complained much about anything - except it did get a bit "stricter" after the lady warden came on board.
The guards, for the most part, are pretty cool; there are a couple hard noses - but that's to be expected. Visitation is pretty nice; they do, however enforce the dress code pretty strictly. My husband has had a couple of different jobs; some off the prison grounds (on the Airforce Base) and now on the grounds (kitchen) Again, pros and cons to working at both places.
I can't say much about the dorms, because I'll never see one! But I think there are like 20 some guys in a dorm and there are 4 man rooms for guys over 50. He's neutral about the food - there are some things he just won't eat, though.
If you'd like, I could ask him specifics if you want to PM me.
Good luck, no matter where you may go!

My fiance has also been sent to Nellis, we had to turn him in on the 30th of May 2003. So far when I talk to him, he say's it's not too bad, besides the heat. He also mentions that there are also a lot of guys there who can be very ignorant about dumb little things.~ But alas, he has only been there for 26 days, and has about a year to go, if he finishes the RDAP program....I have heard it's rated in the top 5 fed pen's if that helps out any...?

hi, my boyfriend, age 22, will most likely be sent to nellis or lompoc in January 2004. we live in hawaii, so visiting him may be rather difficult. if he is sent to nellis, i am contemplating moving to Vegas for his 18 month sentence. We are very young an nervous about this situation. I am curious on what visitation is like if i moved there, in regards to how much contact is allowed, how often you can visit, etc... also, you always hear those prision horror stories, i was wondering how dangerous it is there in regards to his safety. thank you for you time...

My boyfriend was in FPC Nellis for a year and a half. I went and visited him about every other month. The visits there are pretty nice. They are friday from 5-8 and sat and sun from 8-3 and 8-3 on federal holidays. You are only supposed to kiss and hug at the beginning and the end of the visits, but you can sneak a few extra kisses in every now and then. The guards are pretty nice there and most of them seemed to be pretty cool when it came to personal contact. As long as it didn't go too far. They are pretty strict on the dress code there. I saw a few people get turned away because of the clothes they had on. Just because its hot there the visitors seem to think its okay to wear tank tops and shorts that go up their butts. so just watch what you wear. If you have any questions just ask.
