I have a collection of old cookbooks and old salt and pepper shakers. I love going to garage sales, flea markets and collectible shows to scout out these items. I esp. love the kitschy salt/ pepper shakers from the 40's and 50's. Anyone else have anything they have collected for awhile?

I have a small collection of martini mixers and would love to expand it some day. I read an article in a mag about a woman who had really interesting ones and got me interested. I have them displayed in a curio cabinet with other assorted drinkware and barware items. (wonder what that says about me - to have my alcoholic devices so prominently on display in my home?? LOL!!)

I also collect postcards and have since I was a little kid. I actually have one of the house I lived in as a child and one of my grandfather when he was young. I especially like to get them from places that I will never get the chance to visit. Anyone feel free to send me one!! LOL!! I'll take them from all over!

I have been collecting shot glasses for a few years.

:) I started my man with a shot glass collection when I first met him. It wasn't on purpose, I went out of town and brought a shot glass back and it grew from there. It got to the point where other people were buying him shot glasses too. He says he has alot now, I didn't see it the last 2 years of it's growth before he went in, but he said that even though I wasn't around during that time, he thought of me daily because of those shot glasses. Out of sight but not out of mind. :)

As for my collections, when I was a little girl I collected all kinds of erasers. I still have them. Some still have the smell too but it's like 20+ years old now. I also collect postcards. I have over 500 by now. And I have started a collection of giraffes but it's still pretty new so theres maybe 15 max. I love collecting things. One day when I have my own house I want to cover one wall with all my postcards like it's wallpaper.

Prior to my last move, I had a small collection of blue and white oriental Porcelain that I'd bought at Dillard's years ago. ( I lost that in the move.) However, I still have my small collection of easter themed polyresin knick knacks, and my two house shaped tea pots.

LOL..I doubt it would be technically considered a collection, but, I've got MORE yarn than I know what to do with, let alone with which to start a war!

So do I!!! I love the graphics more than anything and the ads for appliances etc. Also love the fact they didn't seem as precise or concerned as we are today with measurements and cooking temps -they probably didn't have the time!

Hey -- I collect shot glasses too. I have them from every place I have ever traveled to or my family/friends have traveled to. I have about 80 right now but I need some more from far and away places too so that is my focus now. I prefer the tall thin ones over the the short fat ones; but I have both.

I have been collecting shot glasses for a few years.

I collect shot glasses also. I used to have a lot of them, but my son knocked over the shelf and broke most of them. I was just happy that he didn't get hurt. So, I have started collecting them again.

I collect too many things....periodically I lose interest in one collection and it goes to finance the next collection (thank heaven for eBay!). But since age five, I have never been able to escape my love for books, and now, with 2 1/2 rooms filled with them and more turning up all the time, I wonder if it will ever be possible to have a home I can comfortably share with all of my books. So far, every one has eventually proven to be too small.

I have penpals in other countries. I ask them to send me postcards, then I send them some from here. I enjoy sending these postcards to my penpals.

I used to have pen pals all over the world--at one point on six of the seven continents and one on the Falkland Islands which was as close as I figured I ever get to Antarctica. Many used to send me little handmade "friendship books" or "FBs", which were usually made for a specific person. Each person who received one was to add their name, personal details, interests, etc., then pass it on to someone else (if I remember right the ideal was to get the book all the way around the world). When the book was full it was sent to the person it was made for.

Not sure how well this would work for prison pen pals but if you wanted to generate a bunch of people for someone to write to....it could work.

Dust bunnies. LOTS of dust bunnies.
Rocks.
Coins.
Old Books.
Old items- a fella I knew here in town had few family left when he died, and he left me his pocket watch, which was his grandpa's. It meant something to him that I would take the time to sit down and talk with him. Swiss made, silver casing, still works. Used to be rose-gold plated. Estimated age is around 1880-1884.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. After they empty out, rinse them out with hot water and let them dry. Then when you get $10-20, buy dried foods. Dried beans, pease, corn, flaked taters, rice, macaroni, you name it. Then get a funnel and cut the tip so it barely fits in the end of the jug. Then pour the dried foods in there.

I have one friend already that is grateful he took my advice on that. He has a place south of Houston and he got flooded this year by the hurricane. And all of the food he had in the plastic jugs survived and he used them.

Another good way is to get extra-heavy duty plastic bags. I prefer the 8 mil plastic bags you get from the highway department. And it's the right color too. Put spare clothes, boxed/packaged foods, anything that won't fit in the 2 liter jugs in there and tie a knot in the end. They won't hold a lot really, but when you double bag them it protects them from damage. Put them in a rodent-free room or somewhere safe (the best option is to keep it at a friend or family place about an hour or two away). When something happens and you need the stuff, it's safe.

(if anyone needs guidance on doing this, PM me. I'm more than happy to help!)
