LOCAL RULES

Visiting rules are strictly by the book. If you can’t pass the metal detector, you will be hand scanned. Processing starts at 7:45 and you then have to wait for a bus to take you to the yard you’re visiting in. You are processed a second time when you get to that yard’s visiting area. The visiting rooms are huge, but still not big enough to hold all visitors.

Terminations are common, especially around the holidays.

Visiting Staff is courteous and efficient.

You may not get a visit during the winter snow storms, when their busses can’t drive you to the yards. Also, visits are terminated for all visitors when snow/ice closes the major roads to and from the prison.

First of all I'd like to welcome you to PTO!  Being that you're new to the prison system it will seem very overwhelming. The hardest part is him being in reception because while in reception he will not be allowed to use the phone and you will not be allowed to visit him until he mails you a signed CDCR 106 Visitors Questionare Form, you mail it back and wait for it to be approved. Then once you do get approved all his visits while he's in reception will be Non-Contact (behind the glass, over the phone). Once he gets mainlined that's when his Contact visits will start. Inmates are usually held in recpetion for 3 months but being that the prisons are so overcrowded in may be longer. He will be allowed to write to you while he's in reception and you can write to him as well. However your mail to him may take about 2 weeks to get to him.

As for your question about getting married while he's in reception...here's a link that will give you a ton of information about getting married while he's in prison.

I personally think that you should wait until he gets mainlined because in reception it will take place behind the glass where as when he's mainlined you can get married with contact. Good luck and if you have anymore questions feel free to post, we're all here to help you out!

welcome to PTO. Tehachapi is not so bad, I saw my husband there for 4 months while he was in reception, I never had any problems with Co's.. You will need to be approved and then once you are approved you will need to call 661-822-4402 to make an apt ext 3251 & 3152 right at 7:30 am on monday mornings, be patient it takes awhile to get through. You shold wait to get married in mainline, reason being is that thecounselors wont take the time to do the paperwork because they are so tied up trying to get guys moved out of reception to main line, so marriages are the last thing on ther emind. also if you need directions there go ahead and PM me, the mapquest directions will get you lost since there are two route 58's that say bakersfield. good luck!v:)

The mail room reads the mail. I guess a counseler could read the mail, but it is normally up to the mail room. If they are in the SHU sometimes it is read there at the SHU.
