My son has been sentenced to FPC Maxwell for 30 months. He says if he goes through drug rehab they will shorten his sentence. Is this true? It is so ridiculous, because he has NEVER taken drugs! His roomate got caught and nobody believed that he was not involved too, even though he hadn't seen the guy for 4 1/2 years. Feds said that it was "conspiracy" not to rat on him. Seems a shame to take a space in a rehab program and pretend to need help when someone else may really need the help. The whole thing is just CRAZY!

Actually, it is not that easy to get into the BOP's drug treatment program. There must be a documented history of drug abuse, usually in the PSR. So someone who has not taken drugs would not be eligible for the program. The space is limited for this program, and you're right, there are many people who really need treatment and it isn't fair to take up space if treatment is not needed.
