With the changes, many newer members (and a few old ones!) cannot get into chat.

First of all, read this thread and it may apply to you. New Chat Policy. (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147592)

If you have made less than 25 posts AND you have been a member for less than two weeks, you will not be able to access the Chat feature right away OR if you have been a member for longer than 6 months you can get in with 5 or more posts.

Members who have been active for six months or longer, must only have a total of five posts in order to access the chat rooms.

PTO is a HUGE board with TONS and TONS of information, support, and encouragement and chat is one of the smaller areas to find this.

Feel free to look around and participate in threads that have already been started. If you want feedback or have a question, start a thread in the forum that best relates to your question. For example, if you have a question about seeing the parole board in Texas, begin with the Texas forums because that is where you will find the most knowledgeable folks about that subject. If you just need to rant about having to deal with the situation, the Hear to Hear You forum is a great place!

And easy way to get started is by clicking "Unread Posts." This will show you threads that have recently been posted, but that you have not read.

Odds are that someone else has had the same question or worry that you have. Using the search feature is a great way to find posts/threads that are on the topic. On the top toolbar, you can see "Search." By clicking this, you can type in a key word or phrase and it will give you a list of all of the threads that contain that word or phrase.

Replying to a thread is easy to do. At the bottom of each thread, there is a box for you to type a reply. Or, if you would like to quote someone else'e response, simply click on quote in the same box as their reply, and it will take you to where you can type in your response. Click submit and you will see your post added to the thread!

To begin a new thread of your own, find the forum you want to post in. At the top of the screen in that forum is a blue button that says "New Thread." Click there and you will see a box similar to the one where you make replies, except you will need to include a title. Remember to be specific about what you are talking about! After you have typed your message, click submit and you will be taken to your new thread.

By posting in a thread or by creating your own thread, you will subscribe to it. That means that when you click User CP, you will see when someone else has replied.

If you still have questions or need help, feel free to contact me or any other staff member and we will make sure you get the hang of it.

I can't believe the BS some people seem to cause to others...
I don't think it's cool that there's restrictions on being able to chat, I myself don't abuse the system, yes I don't post alot but I do read other people's post alot, and have learned alot from other people lending a word of support...
I hope this "NEW" rules takes care of these people who have nothing better to do with there time that harrass others. :)

Surprisingly, there has already been some improvement. It has prevented spamming and trolling already and hopefully it will continue to improve the Chat feature. But also, the message boards are the focus here because you can say useful information in chat once, and only those who are in chat and paying attention will see it, but if you post it, MANY can read it and see it and read it again. And I've found, personally, that once you get started posting, there are plenty of opportunities to post, whether it's asking a question or giving answers or just lending some support to fellow members.

Ed's... Since it is based on each user only being allowed on account and it is based on each individual account, you need to sign on under the original account. We will also need to close one of the accounts.

First of all, welcome to PTO JMM's!!

There are a few ways, if you click User CP at the top, left hand side, you will see a heading that says View all subscribed threads and that will pull up any thread you have posted in.

You can also click on your name in the post and then click on Find all posts by this member about mid-way down the page of your user profile.

Yes you need to have 25 posts AND be a member for 2 weeks before you can chat. We also ask that the 25 posts be supportive, informational type posts rather than posts in the game forums.

No when you post you will see you name on the left hand side and on the right hand side you will see your join date, location and your number of posts .. you have 24 posts.

Yes you can.... you'll be able to get into chat when you have hit the 25 mark... but remember that it takes a few hours for it to recognize the 25th post AND.. don't forget, please don't do a bunch of junk posts ;)

Hello, I have been a member since June (5 months). So next month when I hit the 6 month mark and since I have posted more than 5 times will I be able to get into chat?

six months for you will be in december, since you joined in june, but if you keep posting and get to 25 posts you can be in the chat before then

It would be December the 2nd that you would be able to access chat if you have less than 25 posts.

Please remember, PTO's main focus in the boards. Jump in and ask questions and rant and rave with the rest of us. You may find you really do enjoy it. :)

Adam, it can take up to an hour after your 25th post, but also, are you sure that you have the most recent version of java installed?

If you are seting a box with a red X in it, you need a current version of java (www.java.com)

No most inmates do not have internet access.This is just a chat room for others on this site (loved ones of inmates,ex inmates,etc.)

What would be considered a junk post? I'm trying not to do that! I am really interested in this site, and curious about the system, and gaining help and resources...:) :) :)

The rules apply to everyone, even those who have accessed chat before. You must meet the two weeks and 25 posts rule OR the 6 months and 5 posts rule.

Remember, the main part of PTO is the message boards, not chat, and as much as many of us enjoy chat, there is much more we can do on the boards! :)

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but this site IS a message board. That is the basis of the site. The chat room is just an additional feature. Unfortunately, there were those out there who took advantage of an open chat to send spam and create other problematic situations. In reality, it is for the protection of the members of PTO.

We aren't asking you to sit at the computer wasting time, but if 25 posts is too much to ask, what good would chat be to you? The posts contain info that can be reviewed repeatedly instead of one time. It's much more effective and I hope that you can see that.

Feel free to start threads and post away. Just because you can't access chat at this moment in time doesn't mean you can't find support and interact with those who have things in common with you and understand your feelings. Look around at a few of the different forums and I am sure you will find more than a few threads with others with whom you can identify. Perhaps being with Husbands and Boyfriends?

Yes, you must be a member for two weeks and have at least 25 posts on the boards before you are able to get into the chat room. While it's frustrating, it is for the protection of our members...

This site is HUGE and can be hard to navigate at first. It's a message board and it's divided into smaller forums, for specific states, issues, and relationships. For example, we have the Georgia forums, the forums for those who have Husbands and Boyfriends on the inside, and a forum called Prison Mail. You can post in threads that are already up and going or you can start your own with any questions or topics you'd like to discuss.

You have to realize that you won't get a lot of information in the chat room. If you are looking for state/prison specific information, you may not find someone there who can answer your questions. Take some time and check out our various forums, I think you'll find a lot of information as well as friendship and support!

I understand the reasons for having the requirements but it kind of sux for those of us that are here on legitimate reasons. Gotta love when a couple people ruin it for all. I have been to this site quite a few times in the past, but really haven't had much to say, I just registered today. My BF just got sent back, he was supposed to get out last friday but got kicked out of treatment and sent back now he won't be out until May or July depending :(

I am also confused-I've been a member for several months now and still am unable (or allowed) to get into chat and I have no idea why...

Why am I unable to chat since I have been a member for quite a while-is it because I'm a Canadian-don't forget Kingston has quite a few penitentiaries but no support for the guys inside ,or the ladies outside...I only visit here once in a while because I find it very difficult to try and access other people to talk to...although I enjoy reading comments I would like to be able to participate also.

When you try to log in, are you getting a box with a red X? If so, it is because of the java.

your message was very helpful, however, I am interested as to why these particular safegaurds are in place. They must be there for a reason. So it says you have maybe 197 days till your baby gets out. How come only maybe?? Is it a matter of whether or not he makes parole. I think what you are doing is wonderful, I have been in lots of chat rooms and some that say they are christains and their conversations leave a lot to be desired. i am trying to figure this thing out, but its very confusing

It is a bit hard to figure out at first He's My Head, but you'll get the swing of it pretty quickly and then you'll be breezing through!!!

well u are in a different state, but here in michigan, if they are already in prison but are being moved to another one, then you wont know until they are moved, here if we look it up on the mdoc website it will tell us after we put in their prison number, but it takes 1 day after they get moved to another prison for us to know where they are.

Yes, shannoncotten. Before you can get into the chatroom, you must have made 25 posts and been a member for 2 full weeks.

Remember though, you can post on the message boards. PTO is mainly a message board. The chat room is a TINY part of PTO!

If you notice next to your name you do not have 25 valid posts. You may have made 25 posts, but if they were junk posting for the purpose of getting into chat then they would have been removed.

Please make sure your posts are valid posts and not 25 spam posts

I just figured something out here, the number of posts is dynamic. When you post a new message it changes the number of post in all your old messages too. Hmmm, interesting.

So, it really doesn't tell you how many posts the person had at the time of posting, it tells you how many posts a person has NOW. Thinking out loud I guess, just didn't realize that before...

If you HAVE made more than 25 posts (and it's been at least an hour) AND you have been a member for more than two weeks, if you are still not able to get into chat, it MAY be because you do not have Java installed.

To start your own thread, you just go to the forum you want to post in and click the blue button on the upper left hand side that says "New Thread." It's pretty easy from there!!

i tink it's no more than 20 pages it might be different. but you can call and ask how many pages you can send at one time. ask for the mail room and they should be able to tell you.

In very general terms, the *Hole* is ad seg, where a prisoner is put... similar to "solitary confinement" with very little freedom to move about as he pleases.

Usually, prisoners are put there as a punishment or for protection.

At the moment, the chat room is unavailable. We are working on getting it fixed, but it will take a bit of time.

What is Trustee Camp?

I understand one needs to post a certain amount of times before they can get into the chat room, but I dont know how many that is. :confused: Can anyone help me with that, and how do we know how many posts we have made or when we can get into chat?

If you will go back to the very first post in this thread, it will explain the requirements to access chat in detail. (You will need a minimum of 25 posts.)

If you look at any of the posts you have made, in the upper right corner of your post, you will see "Posts: ##" and that is how many posts you have made.

i have so many questions i need help with and i cant get help hit chat room

barbaratoo some people come into some chats just to stir up trouble. So PTO is requiring the people that really want to talk about prison situations to show their interest of getting in. They have had some troubles in this area.

You just have to meet BOTH of the requirements outlined in the first post, and once the chat room is up and running again (It is down at the moment.) you will be able to access the chat room.

Actually, members who have been active members for more than 6 months are only required to have a lower number. It's sort of a "Grandfather-ed in" method, but it is there...

I agree with you. I can't wait to finally be able to vent to people who really understand what its like to have a loved one incarcerated.

I wonder if there is a state web site like Michigan that can allow people to see other prisoners information from other states??

A thread is a string of posts about one topic... the threads are the different *titles* that you see as well.

Most states DO have inmate locators, but not all are available online. Usually, if there is a specific state you are interested in, you can Google "Inmate Locator" and the name of the state and it will pop up.

Please re-read the first post in this thread Tifferz... it explains it.

At the moment, chat is unavailable due to some technical issues, but when it is back up, and you've met the requirements, you just click "Chat" on the top toolbar of the webpage and it will take you into the Chat room.

If you have 25 posts and have been a member two weeks or longer you should be able to get in now that chat is back up.Just look at the top in the middle on this page and click chat to enter

You have to make 25 posts AND be a member for two full weeks. Your join date was 2/7, so the earliest you could get into chat would be 2/22. And your post count is in the upper right corner of all of your posts, and updates with each post you make. At the moment, it looks as though you have 32 posts. Way to go!

Thank You. I am trying to get information about Buttner North Carolina low security prison and what type of drug program is there. Also about the transition to a drug program and halfway house. My brother is being moved from Oklahoma to North Carolina in the next month or so. Any info or help or advice I can get to him would be great.

I'm trying to find out about the requirements Arkansas Parole Board requires once someone makes Parole. Things like home plan, etc. What are the stipulations etc?
Does my nephew have certain paperwork to fill out/then what happens. He made parole and they told him he would be out in 60 days. THanks

I can't believe the BS some people seem to cause to others...
I don't think it's cool that there's restrictions on being able to chat, I myself don't abuse the system, yes I don't post alot but I do read other people's post alot, and have learned alot from other people lending a word of support...
I hope this "NEW" rules takes care of these people who have nothing better to do with there time that harrass others. :)

Hopeing to get my posts in so i can chat. Would like to find out if anyone has a loved one in Wa. St. Penn. w/ the lockdown that went on last wk.

The only thing with posting is, you don't normally get a response or it takes weeks for someone to just read it! It's hard to post if there isn't much dicussion going on, especially in the area I'm from. I rather talk to people who are in MD or have someone in jail in MD.

Agates---Check out the WA state forum... there's others there who can give you info about that I'm sure!!!

You can't check their visitation lists. You can call the facility to verify if you are approved yet or not. You can also check the state forum for where Parchman is located and that will most likely give you tons more info!

Have you tried looking on the Iowa Dept of Corrections webpage? Most states have an inmate locator that will help you to find where an inmate is currently being held.

If I wanted someone to bring me down I couold do that myself!!!I need to be uplifted, and I praying to God for strength but there is so much pain in my heart!

Unfortunately, there are reasons and some have been discussed in this thread. Unfortunately, there are folks out there who want to cause trouble and SPAM any chat rooms they can find, to start with and those two reasons are the beginning of a list. While it is difficult at first to get the swing of nagivating PTO, the message board IS the focus of the website and the chat room is VERY low traffic compared to the boards and the chat room is more of a place to relax instead of somewhere that you can get answers to questions.

And you'll be surprised how easy it is to get 25 posts!! :)

Hang in there! It is hard and it's completely natural to feel how ever you feel! It's hard to have our loved ones be taken away, even if they have done something wrong. That doesn't change how we feel about them. We still love them and care about them.

I am not sure how to get into live chat. I really need to talk to someone regarding my legal situation. I am a 2 time previous offender and after 6 years off paper I found my self in another jam. I made a plea of 2-10 DOC sentence and have a PSI sceduled next week. I don't remember ever getting a PSI before. I also have an interview for community corrections so I am not sure what is going on. I don't have any clue what is involved with the PSI and my attorney has yet to return my call after 2 1/2 weeks of trying to call him. Please help me get into the chat room.

You won't be able to access the chat as the information in the first post of this thread states, but you are much more likely to find answers by posting your questions in the Colorado forum. If you go to the PTO Index (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/index.php)page, you can scroll down to the CO forum. (Unless you are facing Fed charges and then you'd visit the Fed forum.)

I found the information regarding the two week trial period and the 25 solid posts. I understand the reasoning and think that the things that are being brought up are important to each of us, its our lives we are talking about. Although I am not upset about the two weeks, I still don't get how I can get information needed. Or how I reach 25 solid posts

First of all, welcome to PTO Phadera!

I'm not sure how much of this thread you've read, but there is some discussion about WHY these rules are in place. PTO is a website that is focused on the posts/threads, as a message board. It isn't a website that focuses on the chatroom, and in general, there are usually just a few members in there at any given time, so asking questions and getting answers specific to the state you are in is low. Additionally, these requirements are to protect our members from spam and harassment. Ever go into a Yahoo! chat room and there's more junk than actual chatting, or that pesky *ad* that pops up regularly? We are preventing that as well as much more sinister types of problems. There are MANY out in the world who do not approve of anyone supporting an inmate, period. They don't care what the reasons behind the support are, and think very lowly of prisoners in general, so if they go directly into chat and begin bashing us, our loved ones, and our choices, it is a direct blow to the main goal of PTO--Support.

I am sure you'd be surprised if you'd browse around a bit more. Twenty five posts may seem like a lot, but they add up quickly and we have a WIDE and VARIED spectrum of forums.

You'd be surprised how much a few words of encouragement and/or support go. Folks want varied opinions, just to get a better view. And experience.

That's what the majority of PTO is. And I'm afraid you may be disappointed when you get into chat. While it's great fun, it's not a hustling and bustling place. It's only busy and full in spurts. The weekends and later nights more than other times, but still...

You can either start a new t hread (once you are in a forum you'll find the new thread button on the left side) or ask your question in a current thread by posting such as you have already.

Don't feel foolish, I wondered the same! I made my 25 posts, downloaded the Java soft wear we need to get in the chat room, (its free, you can get it on the net) chatted a few times then one day I couldn't get in!! I still can't get in. I didn't change anything, its probably a very simple thing but when you don't know, its HARD.:p I hope your visits here are uplifting.

You have to be a member for 2 weeks AND have 25 posts ... OR... you can be a member for 6 months and have 5 posts. (The second option was the grandfather plan for members who were around when the new requirement was put in place.)

If you look in the upper left corner of your posts, it shows that you have currently made 20 posts. You will have to make an additional 5 non-junk posts in order to access chat.

There's a few areas you can visit for info.

If you go to the PTO Index Page (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/index.php) and scroll down, you will see a forum specifically for Parole topics and then, keep going and you will see the name of the state where the parole will take place. In that state forum, there are a few sub-topics and Parole is one of them.

I need someone to talk to...I'm going thru the motions and I'm depressed my fiance just got sentenced three days ago and I'm so sick of people telling me how I should feel and some peoples negativity. If I wanted someone to bring me down I couold do that myself!!!I need to be uplifted, and I praying to God for strength but there is so much pain in my heart!

I feel the same. My husband died years ago, my only other son was killed by a drunk driver, I have no family, and my son just got sent to San Quentin for three years. My log in name is sickandsad that is because that is all I feel, sick and sad. I don't know if I can uplift you but I can certainly validate how you feel as so do I.

You joined on May 27th and since it's a full two week waiting period, you won't have access to the chat room until after midnight Sunday.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but it is for your comfort as well as the rest of our members at PTO. Not everyone thinks supporting someone is prison is a good thing and many are willing to try to make trouble or abuse others when they find the chance. You can find quite a few folks who know about that facility if you visit the Texas forum, and you'll get more answers since more folks will see your posts.

You will certainly find so much information in the forums. Generally in chat it's a let your hair down thing and more of the everyday chit chat. I have seen people come into chat asking about a particular facility only to find out that nobody in chat at that given moment has a loved one in the same facility and the person leaves immediately. Please try the Texas forums before you get discouraged about not being able to get into chat. Good luck and I know you will find many members that are going through the same thing and have so many answers in the forums as opposed to chat.

You are correct. You must have 25 posts as well as being a member of PTO for a full two weeks.

Julie, I really don't understand your question. If you are talking about other chat sites they are not connected to PTO nor can you chat with those sites from PTO's chatroom. I don't imagine they have the same rules for chatting.

LadyDi, you have been a member since oct of 2004 and yet you only have 3 posts and most of them are in this thread. PTO is not a chat site, it is to offer support and help in the forums. The chat room is just a nice perk for our active members. Therefore,if you want to get into chat you need to become active in some of the forums. You may find,as most of us do,that the forums are a tremendous source of support and a place to make friends who are in the same situation as you. I am sorry you feel we are keeping you from getting the help you need because that is exactly what PTO is about, help and support. I hope you try posting in the other forums and before you know it you will have 25 post. Good luck!

Texasangel, if you look on the right side where your join date is, under that it has number of posts. Right now you are showing 6 post, so just keep posting in forums that interest you, and you will have 25 post in no time. Since you have an inmate on DR have you checked out the DR forums? You will find a lot of support there.

I am new to PTO and would like to be able to chat but I also see why there needs to be some kind of system set up as well. I found PTO while searching for different support groups, I have a very close friend that is incarcerated. I just wanted to say I look forward to my time being up and I finally can chat. You'll be able to get in on the 18th. It takes two full weeks, and depending on the time of day you confirmed, but by midnight on the 17th, you'll be able to get into Chat. :)

Sorry you feel its retarded, however, in the past we have had people join PTO who were here to cause problems for others and would go right into chat to do just that.

Also.. PTO is NOT a chat site. Our chat room is a very very small part of what we are. You will find more information in our forums than you will in our chat room.

Additionally, please review our PTO Rules/Policies as we do not consider Junk posts as valid posts for the 25 count. Here's the information regarding Junk Posts:

• “Free” & “Junk” Posting:
“Free” or “Junk” posts are (repeated) posts that do not add to the overall positive content in threads, or are postings solely for the purpose of boosting your post count. A good example of this can be found in threads asking for information on a topic for which you have no answer and does not inquire directly (by name) of you to answer. If you were to reply to this thread by saying, “Nope, I have no information”(ETC), this is a junk post. There is no reason to comment because your silence is as good as saying you do not have any information to contribute. Furthermore, free/junk posts add up over time and waste server space and ISP bandwidth unnecessarily. Threads announcing your post count are considered free posting. It looks like you had JUST made your 25th post. It can take an hour or two for the system to update to allow you access. By the time you log back in, you should be able to get into the chat room, but visit www.java.com to make sure you have the correct Java.

Welcome to PTO Beth. Prisoners don't have access to the internet, and the likelihood that someone in chat (a VERY small part of PTO) has a loved one who knows your son is very slim.

I am sure that you can find quite a bit of info and support for yourself. We actually have a forum specifically for parents with children in prison... And you can find a complete list of the forums (areas) of PTO on the Index Page...

You can find many ppl to talk too that are going thru your same situations here on this site.. Try the wisconsin forums and the husband and boyfriends forum as well

How do you handle loosing family members and friends because you're standing by your man, I use him as support but even though he's not that far away I can't go see him yet & don't know if I'll be able to at all and with raising the kids on my own I can barely afford 1 call a week so we use letters and they are almost a week behind in responce, so even though he's my strength & support I need to find some in myself, any ideas

Our chat room is a very small part of PTO.. its not the place to get answer to questions, etc.. its more of a hang out to relax and get away from the prison issues. Gods Grace, this is not a chat for prisons. They do not have access to the internet. This is a thread to answer questions or make comments about the chatroom. You cannot get into chat from here. I would suggest you go to the state forum where he is locked up and ask any questions you have there. Welcome to PTO you will get a lot of support here and information as well.

Well, you're right. Chat is more simple... but this is a message board. So it works a bit differently. You post messages (posts) in strings of posts (called a thread). You will probably find it easiest to start with the Index Page...

Is there a reason, I'm sure there is, for the 25 post. this seems to me that it would just cause people to post trivia and i considwer this one of the most serious issues I've dealt with in this earthly life.

Well, there's two places you need to know.

First, the User CP (Upper left corner). That will show you when you receive posts in any threads you have posted in... (that's replies to your messages...)

The other is the PTO Index Page....

That's a list of all the forums (different areas) of PTO! You can scroll through and you'll see a forum for Alabama where you can get info about that facility, but also a forum for Parents with Children in Prison where you may find some info helpful to you as well!

The first posts in this thread explain the requirements and why they are in place...

The site is predominantly a message board so the chat room is a TINY part and usually, you won't get the info you need in the chat room. It's more for *lounging* instead of info.

You have to make posts like the ones you've been making and you can see how many you've made by looking at any of your posts, in the upper right corner, it'll say "Posts: ####".

Well, you have to have five posts if you've been a member more than 6 months, so you shouldn't have any problem getting in at this point unless you need update your java. :)

I just left my man Gilmer federal prison camp yesterday. The 3 hour ride home was so long. However, I have no idea as to what I can and can not do at this point. When can I visit him? As he was checking in the guard told me that I could probaly see him this weekend? Do I have to call someone to make sure? Will he be able to call me before? ....Help!!!

I am a new member and do not post alot but, I have learned so much already and would love to be able to chat with those who are in the same boat as I am. Hi Cristy, my son has a three year old that he never got to hold in his arms. He may never get to have a father son relationship with him, because he may be doing a life time in prison. I feel so bad for the children, because they don't understand. Thank god your baby is young enough that when your husband comes home your baby won't remember what happend to his dad being in prison. Hang in there, you have hope.

You can chat when ever you fill like as long as you have the requirements if you just reached the 25 posts it may take up until midnight for the system to recognize your 25th post

Its really not that important to me to get into the chat room. It sounds like you may need the current version of Java. Visit www.java.com and install the latest version. :)

The next suggestion I'd have is to uninstall Java and re-install it after a hard restart. That can be a pain, but, well, yeah. It's the next thing I know to try.

this site is alot more than just the chit chat thread until yall have the 2wks and 25 supportive posts check out the boards. You can get alot of information there.
too check replies too a thread you made or to something you post you can go up to the right of your screen and you will see quick links and click on it , a drop box will appear and you will see a link that says my profile click on that and it will take you to your profile. Where you will be able to see your posts and threads you have made ..

and oh so true. My printer doesn't work, having trouble downloading photos because the photo center isn't vista compatible but if i change the format of my pictures im alright but that gets to be a pain. Anything i needed a disc for basically i have to wait for the company to become compatible.

Other than that Vista is a lot more secure and a pretty good program. I miss my XP though....

I understand what you are going thru my brother has vista and is having some of the similiar complications so i figured i will wait a while before go to vista. lol

Dude... we outsource the majority of our tech support and the like and he already suggested switching. I told him if I heard one more breath about it, he could figure out how to get the software box out of his butt because there's NO way we're switching until it's more compatible!!!! (Dude... I work with lots of *mature* folks who aren't so savvy with the computers anyway, so the last thing I need is to try to teach folks Vista!!!)

But... Hopefully it'll get there soon and you'll pop into chat Frozen! :)

The reasons are discussed earlier in this thread, but in short, it is for the protection of our members. There are MANY folks out there who do NOT support being supportive of any person in prison and LEAP on any opportunity to bash, abuse, or flame anyone they find out is supportive of a prisoner. You couldn't begin to imagine the things that people have went directly to chat to say to someone they have no clue about, just to assert their view. (That view is usually along the lines that all prisoners deserve to die and we should burn in hell for supporting them.)

This site is a message board. That is the primary function and while the add-on's are nice (like chat), they are just add on's and very, very TINY parts of the site as a whole.

Members are always in and out of the chat room, sometimes chat is really crowded while other times there is only a few or none in chat. At night there are always a few ppl in chat.

I just wanted to say I am glad to see this is a monitored site.I resently joined this site because I am a mother of a young man who has recently been sentenced to prison.I am greatfull you are here! As I am sure so many are. The person who started this site should be awarded the purple heart. I have an unlimited number of questions and will be useing this site often. And as you have stated this site and those of us who truely need this site will not abuse the privlage of membership. I am off to exsplore the site and hope to find it easly charted. Have you checked the texas forum ? If you keep posting in here til you get til 25 you still will not have access to the chat room it has to be 25 supportive posts and 2 wks membership

Supportive meaning in posting in participating in other forums giving advice, posting questions about different situations. Posts such as happy birthday , congratulations, how many post , and things like this doesnt count towards the 25.

I have 5 post and been a member since 10-31-2006 and chat still won't let me in. Any help would be great.....thank you.

no this is a support site for those who have their loved ones in, going in, or for those who are going in or has been in. Prisons do not allow inmates to have access to the internet .

ok but you have to remember your 25 posts has too be supportive post, the chat room is a small piece of pto and you can find and meet other members who are going thru your situation right here on the message boards.

All of this is so overwhelming! I have no clue what in the world I'm doing! This is my very 1st computer (or even my 1st access) to the web. I desperately miss my family member, it's been 5 years since i heard his voice or seen his face. I don't know how to get a visitation or contact him in any way. He doesn't know that my doctor has diagnosed me with a very rare and uncurable disease that attacks my organs. currently we are treating the symptoms with cortacoid steriods, it has attacked my lymph nodes-which limits my eating. They also detected it in my lungs-22 spots the size and shape of honeycombs cereal. I have to sleep with oxygen through a mask w/C-pap machine to keep me breathing while I sleep at night. I know everybody is living on GODS grace. I am so blessed and thankful that I have the breaths that I have! I hope I (WE) always remember to count our blessings and make the most of every second that god gives us here on earth. I was informed of this illness, and several other illnesses (including heart condition-i survived the surgery-2years later it returned) still fighting it!!!!! the other illnesses i have are very serious 2, but like I said, I'm living on GODS grace!!!! I found all this out just after my cousin went in! Now i find out he is imprisoned approximately 33 miles away from me, and i can't even tell him how much I LOVE HIM!!! I miss him so much!! He doesn't even know that I made it to be a GRANDMA!!! I won't give up until i get to see him again, I just keep praying that god will keep him safe! I ask you to pray for him/us , as i will pray for you and your loved one. I do realize this was a very long QuickReply, as you and I know, life is one big Quick-sometimes to fast to settle for a QuickReply, after all, all of this started hitting me at around 34 years old, I just turned 39 in March. My loved one, I hold very to my heart! All through my childhood he was always there for me! I will always do my best to be that for him. Welcome to pto miss n him! What state is he located in, i know texas has a wackenhut as well as lousiana but those are juveniles if i am not mistaken. Arkansas also have one. Please let us know what state he is in this way we can help you figure out how to visit and get phone calls .

I am so sorry to hear about your illness. I will keep you in my prayers. My loved one which is my fiance is serving his time in Fort Dix, NJ and has served just about one year (next month "May" will be a year) that he has been away. He has two more years to go and each day it gets harder for me and not easier as everyone on this site says it is. I have been denied my first visitation request and currently waiting for a response to my appeal. I pray that it is granted because I have not seen him since Thanksgiving prior to his transfer to Fort Dix. Well keep your head high and be strong you can beat this with the faith and love of god!

I just found this site. I am a volunteer prison chaplain in Alabama and trying to help a resident out finding a halfway house in S.C. What do you suggest is the best way to approach this on this site? Not sure if I can back to this point!

Miss n Him, you can go to the web site DOC and type in your loved ones name and it should have the phone number of where he is incarcerated. You can call them and ask how to go about getting a visitation. I assume you live in Okla. my son was incarcerated at a town called Hominy, Ok. The inmate is responsible for getting the visitation forms out to the people they want to visit them. They are also responsible in telling the visitor when they have been approved. Atleast that is the way they did it where my son was...Good luck and God Bless
